The Chicago Bears will own the #2 pick and look to trade back and gather more early draft picks this year and next, or they will sit and draft either DT or EDGE ( they desperately need both ). They also have more than double the money they next closest team in free agency has where they can sign 2 offensive linemen starters, two defensive lineman starters, and still have roughly 80m to play with. There are a lot of ways at that point to enhance the roster. Their goal would bring in Daron Payne if the Commanders choose not to tag him. They are short on money and they already signed two other lineman to long term expensive contracts plus they will have to pay Chase Young soon. The Bears secondary with Johnson, Gordon and Brisker actually look good when they play but they have no pass rush. They could draft Will Anderson and sign Payne and Hargraves ( Eagles ) and add two guys at DT who get sacks plus an edge rusher to get sacks to help them out. And Sanborn oddly looks better than RSmith when he was in Chicago. The rest of their draft can be used on offensive talent at WR and TE to help out Fields. There are no elite pass catchers in free agency. I don’t know if I buy into the “because he has no talent around him it’s easy for him to put up numbers” type of thinking. I think it’s the opposite. I think his passing stats would look tremendously better if he were on a more talented team and didn’t constantly have to be the hero on the offense every play. And the Bears are sold. The coach is now calling him the franchise. The defensive players are saying this is the QB they have been dreaming about having on their team and just never happened before. And this is what I hate about us right now. We have no quarterbacks to be excited about. We are so starved for a QB to play just league average. We have a playoff roster, believe it or not, if we had a better QB. There’s no reason QBs here should not have had major success with Moore, Anderson and CMC to pass to. But that’s the reality of the situation. Cam with no shoulder, Teddy, Kyle, Taylor, PJ, Sam and Baker suck. They are not league average QBs. This is why I am so adamant we need to identify who we think would have success here in Charlotte and do whatever it takes to draft them. If we can sit where we are and have our guy fall then cool. Stay put. But if we say… Will Levis or CJ Stroud are the guys, GO GET THEM. And don’t hope the rest of the league passes on them. This fandom and this franchise is starving for a young QB to be excited about.

You can win free agents. You can win draft positioning to help you win long term. -

Then how come we didn’t dominate the year after going 15-1? -
It guarantees you that you are relying on less teams to mess up your chances going after “your guy”.
-
With no team around him Fields last 6 games: 94 of 138 ( 68% ) passing for 1000 yards, 10 passing touchdowns, 6 rushing touchdowns, 636 yards on the ground and just 4 INT. 0 lost fumbles. That’s a trash roster around him on offense and he’s doing work. Looking like anything but a bust at the moment. I won’t even compare that to how trash we’ve been at passing the last 6 games.

My logic is that QB is the most important position in football. If we pick high we have a better shot at the guy we identify as our guy. When you pick 24th you are at the mercy of the rest of the league. That’s my logic. As simple as that. -

If you pick 2 or 3 you only miss out on 1-2 players. I’m sure there’s a guy still available that we would have liked. When you draft that high you are one of the few teams in the NFL that isn’t super at the mercy of everyone else hoping your guy falls. And if you are, it’s a lot easier to trade from 2 or 3 to 1 than it is to move from 10 to 1, for instance. I don’t claim to be smarter than any other fan on this board. I just see what we have been doing and can also see that it’s not been working. You can lose games or trade picks to move up. I don’t care which one we do. Just identify our guy and go get him. edit: I’ll also point out that I DO root for us to win every single week. I’ve said that in multiple posts. But when we lose I switch over to draft mode. I just want us to get a QB. -

Not sneaking him in at all. I brought him up because he’s a young QB we passed on. We have made terrible decisions regarding QBs for the longest time. We have wasted a lot of picks and resources into going after guys who aren’t good. It’s time to take a chance on a rookie first rounder. -
The kid from now too far down the road in Georgia? Justin Fields? Who Tepper wanted? And is emerging as a young stud despite whatever Nagy was doing in year one? And the year before we missed out on Herbert because of a late season “culture win” and yet our culture is no better. We need a QB.
-
Lawrence has been the best QB in football since the beginning of November. I think we need to define what young is. Under what? 30? 28? I think there are a bunch of good young QBs in the NFL. I think the Brady and Rodgers type guys have finally fallen off.

I want us to win every game. When we lose I pivot to well at least it helps our draft stock. I think there is a growing segment of posters here who are tired of winning “one pointless game” towards the end of every season that hurts our draft positioning and causes us to miss out on a guy like Justin Herbert. The folks who typically argue with “it’s not just a game, it’s good for the culture to win” have had it their way for years now and we haven’t gotten better. This organization desperately needs a QB fans, and the building, can actually believe in. For me, I would rather lose out and make it easier to stay where we are at, or even move up, if we determine XYZ is our guy. Years ago folks wanted to trade up to first overall and mortgage the draft for two years to pair Joe Brady with Joe Burrow. Looking back, I think this would have been the right move. A win at the end of the season moves you down the draft board and makes it harder to move up. But, for the culture, right? We missed out on drafting Justin Herbert by 1 draft slot. A slot we would have been in, or better, if not for one “culture win” to end the season. Then we passed on Justin Fields to grab an elite corner. Topper wanted Fields but Rhule wanted a corner. I think this was the third straight draft where we should have gone after a QB and we didn’t early. There were no worse cultures to be in than the Jaguars. The Jags couldn’t win games and their coach was toxic and wasted a year of a stud rookie QB. But in year 2, that QB is coming along and they are in the playoff hunt already. And they have reasons to be excited for the future. Chicago has reasons to be excited for the future. Carolina does not, yet. We need a QB. It’s time to go get one high up in the draft and develop him. I am tired of winning five games with retread QBs while we waste young talents rookie years under contract. -
It’s based on Playoff position at that point. I believe if you make the playoffs the worst you can pick is 18th. And if you win the whole thing you pick last in the round.
-
Lawrence and Burrow both went first overall. How are they not two of your best young QBs in the NFL?
-
I don’t think the Jags were ever going to trade that pick.
-
Offensive coordinator too. Fields , Lawrence look much better with better offensive coordinators. Mac Jones misses McDaniels. Who happens to make a bad head coach. But he’s a great coordinator.
-
Blame Meyer on wasting a year of his.
-
Came in off of cramps and got an IV. Had to tell one of his WRs what to run after each play and he still threw another TD lol
-
I would have been willing to go up and get our guy for like 3 straight years lol
-
He did admirably but he shouldn’t be our long term head coach.
-
I think they know that have a stud there. He’s not going anywhere.
-
This is so hard to watch. Cmon boys!
-
We can score here. And then we are right back in it!
-
Trevor Lawrence with wither TD pass. They are back in the game against the Cowboys. Down 24 to 28
