Panthers Falcons rivalry potentially get a added spark
Varking replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I do not want the Falcons to try and fix their QB situation. -
He’s going to be our first owner to have back to back winning seasons because he’s willing to eat a loss and move onto something better. He flipped the Rhule mistake into an absolute all star coaching staff and hired a GM who got us the #1 pick during a season we had the #9 pick. Unless Young has a dreadful rookie season we should easily have a winning record this year.
-
It’s not his height that gives folks here pause, it’s his weight and frame. If he looked like he could get close to 220 and not lose any of his athletic ability he would have been the unquestioned #1 pick and folks would have never pushed for Stroud or Richardson as our pick.

Mingo got to school after Brown and Metcalf left. Moore was good in college but Mingo was consistently the fourth guy in receiving yards. This was the first year in quite some team Ole Miss didn’t have a 1k yard receiver. And Mingo was second on this team in receiving yards.

If Bryce turns out as advertised then he’s basically a “But we have Mahomes at home” meme as his comp. He plays like a lesser version of Mahomes. And that’s not a knock.
-
For folks that want a Wilson comp just know that without Pete, Wilson looked like trash and the trash tier backup QB who replaced him went to a pro bowl. As far as Brees that would be a good comp but the kids 2 inches shorter and like 20 pounds lighter. There is no good comp for him.

To be fair a lot of folks here have a bad habit of making too much about rookie seasons. Anyone who was actually watching understood what a poo show Jacksonville was. Lawrence wasn’t going to be a massive bust. As teams have shown, a lot of these guys getting drafted CAN succeed if you help them and not just ask them to carry your franchise. Invest in a line and a couple playmakers and then things are trending up. Yet there are teams that still miss this when drafting a QB early still.

For folks curious why Mingo isn’t a first rounder it’s his production. He’s a guy who has played for four years of college ball and this is the first season he had more than 400 yards in a season. 27 catches for like 380 yards and 3 TDS was his career high in a season for all three. So he “boomed” this season and still didn’t even make it to 1k yards. And this was the only season he played in more than 7 games. He’s a guy you need to just look at the athletic profile and ignore the lack of production and think your staff can unlock his skills better than Lane Kiffin. Id be concerned about this pick.

I’d prefer other things but he’d be our best receiver

Josh Klein: strong probability Panthers trade out of #39

The idea is good. The pick execution was bad. Jenkins is a stud. -
Hypothetical Question that I'm sure will remain civil
Varking replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Where folks get drafted doesn’t matter in terms of who is better. We are the clear best place to get drafted for a WB looking to start Day 1 right now out of the teams that need a QB so whoever we pick it set up to succeed. and it doesn’t matter who we draft. I’ll support them. As I’ve said a bunch. I’m done with retreads. I’ll bitch all day about retread QBs. Finally taking a shot on a first round QB? Give me any of the top 4 and I’ll find a way to be happy with the pick. -
They are about to allow you to watch multiple games at once on Fridays
-
And who knows? Maybe if he starts as a rookie they win that Super Bowl. There’s been plenty of guys like Manning and Aikman who took bumps early and looked bad and ended up playing great. I’m a believer in live experience.

He wasn’t the first overall pick.

Which Top QB better fits the new OC play calling style..
Varking replied to PanthersGOATFan336's topic in Carolina Panthers
That last defender, in the NFL, probably puts a hole in his chest. -
He’s under contract and will be QB3. If we are drafting a 185 pound QB it’s a good idea to carry a few in case something happens. Again, we won 7 games with no QB last year. We could still be lead to the playoffs with rookie, Andy or Matt in a pinch.

What is winning in the poll?
-
We draft a rookie, first overall, and we play them. No stupid QB competition like when Lawrence had to battle Minshew and they stole reps from each other. No stupid starting Dalton over Fields and stealing reps with the im first team away from your rookie. We are drafting them to play right away. They will play right away.

Is it time to take the Falcons seriously?
Varking replied to Ivory Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Saints currently look like our division champs on paper and the you have Atlanta, Tampa and Carolina all being competitive pending their decisions at QB. -
But Bryce Young did good on a test...right??
Varking replied to PanthersGOATFan336's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Bears called those runs because they couldn’t block and once they were without Mooney they had no WRs. They won’t be calling 10-15 runs a game for Justin next year. They already said this. They had to do it out of necessity. Justin is a fine passer. He was drafted to the worst possible offensive black hole in Chicago but their roster is being fixed now. -

Wait are you digging a QB for 250 yards of offense a game? Also, they already plan on running him a lot less next season. They had to do it out of necessity this year. Both Fields and Eberflus have said as much. -

Not would be, it is. We are getting a major upgrade at the most important position in football no matter which of the top two we draft.
