When you seemed confused about how I felt about Lance I clarified for you. I then have done it multiple times now. Now is the third time I’m asking you to produce the quote where I claimed he wasn’t a first round talent. You’ve posted a ton here. I know you aren’t stupid or malicious. I think with the amount you post you have me confused for somebody else.
-
They signed a QB and they are definitely paying him more than Minshew to be the backup. Minshew is now QB3 on their roster.
-
I’ve never written “I don’t want Lance without any qualification” in my life until just now. Stop trying to tell others how they think. You haven’t got a clue. Ive written it for you like three other times now. I only want Lance if Fields, Wilson and Lawrence are all off the board. And if he is drafted by us before the others are gone I’d still understand why we would draft him. If you are still confused after this conversation then that’s an issue with you, not me. Just a post ago you wrote some drivel about me moving goalposts after it became apparent Lance was a first round talent… I’d like to ask you to pull the quote where I said he wasn’t a first round talent.
-
Moved the goalposts? I’ve been clear in my preferences are Lawrence, Wilson, Fields and then Lance, in that order. Is he who I want? No. I want Lawrence. Can’t get Lawrence? Next I’d want Wilson. Can’t get Wilson? Next I’d want Fields. Can’t get Fields? Then I’d want Lance. I would not want Lance if any of the other three are on the board. Pretty simple to follow. As for when it became apparent he is a first round talent? When have I said he wasn’t a first round talent?

To Sign or not to Sign - Bridgewater vs Draft. DRAFT
Varking replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
Minshew has been a better QB in so years than Teddy has been over his career. Teddy couldn’t sniff a season like Gardners rookie year. And he outperformed Teddy this year while hurt and having a team try and tank. The Jags just signed a backup QB and are drafting Lawrence. They no longer need Minshew. -
Alabama, LSU and Georgia are the three schools that consistently get ranked in the top 5. Over the last four years A&M has consistently been the #4 recruiting team in the SEC ahead of even Florida in 3 of the last 4 years. In that one year Florida outranked A&M, they had the same number of 4 stars and A&M had more three stars. Neither team pulled a 5. The Gators got the pump for having a higher ranked 4 star. Most days when A&M takes the field they have more talent than their opponent.

I’ve said I’d be happy to have him as well. Just not trading up for him. I’ll pass on that. If the QB isn’t one of the top 4 I would rather not draft one at all.
-
Being consistently inconsistent is not a good trait. They were unranked, ranked, unranked and ranked in his four years. This year his team was 4th in the final poll. They were 34th in scoring, 19th in scoring, 62nd in scoring, 37th in scoring in his four years. Even during the season it’s a tail of two halves: First half 3/5 games a over 250 yards passing and throws for 12 touchdowns. Second half 1/5 games over 250 yards and just 7 TDs throwing in the last five games including a stinker against one of the worst defenses in the SEC this year in LSU where he threw for something like 11/34 passing the ball. With just over 100 yards. Spiller was the guy who made their offense go. Not Mond. And this is just stats. For those actually watching the games I think there’s a reason most people aren’t comparing him to Lance.
-
Yeah I haven’t suggested one time I’d move up for Lance. I’ve been very consistent with not moving up for him as I wouldn’t move up to get my #4 QB.
-
Atlanta is in the perfect spot. They can pick the best Non QB in the draft or trade the pick away to get more talent on the team.
-
If you are drafting Lawrence, just go all in to build talent around him. If you can get a third rounder for him you can likely grab a guy who can develop into a year 2 or 3 starter.

Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence
Varking replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you aren’t consistent with it I would say it’s a struggle. That’s not beating him down or slapping him in the face. I’d still be happy to have him. If you are trying to be critical when you watch his games you’d say the biggest thing he needs to work on is consistent ball placement. I’d pull his PFF stats and share them about how he is the least accurate passer of the big 4 in this draft but honestly you just need to watch his throws on a per play basis without fan goggles on and it’s something you’d pick up on. Again, I’d be more than happy to have him as our pick I’m just being critical about what he definitely needs to work on. -
Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence

That’s fair. You can turn on just about any full game of Trey Lances on YouTube where he threw the ball 15+ times and if you break down each pass and truly critique it there’s a lot of passes that are completed but if you were a QB coach you’d tell him in practice the throw needs to be more out in front or on the other side of the receivers body. I believe a few months ago we pulled his semi final game up and on his first like 10 passes he threw like 4 screens and of those 4 only 1 was in a good spot. -
Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence

Neither faced great competition but Wilson’s throws looked to be more on target and leading receivers and thrown to the correct side of their bodies. Lance did struggle with stuff like that. -
I’d be ok trading for him *if* we can’t get a QB at 8 in this draft.

1) I don’t want to give up multiple firsts for either guy. 2) Lance has a stronger arm and is faster than Mond. 3) Mond is the most inconsistent QB in the SEC. 4) Yes, Mond started 40+ games but Mond also has like 8 absolute duds of a game in those 40 games. Lance never had an absolute dud. The worst passing games of his career he’d take over with his feet. 5) Lots of SEC QBs has career years this year because nobody played defense in the SEC in 2020. 5) Monds “breakout year” this past season he completed 63% of his passes to bring his four year career number to 59%. He has like 5 or 6 games in his career where he completed like 40% or less of his passes. 6) Mond averages 3.7 yards per carry. He’s not the same athlete as Lance. Mond is the definition of inconsistent. One game he would flash and look good and the next game he’d be the reason the game is even close. I watch tons of SEC football and if there’s one guy the past four years I would not trust in a big game it’s him. You don’t know what you’re getting. And Lance did not do little to nothing. He scored 40+ TDs while throwing 0 interceptions in his only full year as a starter. He’s the #4 QB on my board and I prefer Lawrence, Wilson and Fields over him but even I can see he did much more than what you are giving him credit for.

If we grab Pitts in round one I’d really like a lineman in two. I could definitely see there being a QB drought in round 2 before they get picked again in round 3. I don’t mind taking developmental QBs in round 3 and later. I just want to shoot for starters in rounds 1 and 2.
-
Hell be there in the fourth. And I don’t believe in drafting Trask or Mond either. If we don’t get one of the big four we messed up.
-

Nope he’s being for real. I linked the direct tweet a little after this post. Insane.

I’m still pulling for Fields to fall to 8.
-
He’s not worth it in my eyes before round 3. He’s the most inconsistent QB in the SEC the last four years.
