  1. I posted it above I mean usually when a new GM comes in they assess and move a bunch of current players around and a lot of times good players get moved. That is why its usually a death sentence for a young QB to get drafted by a coach+GM regime one year and then have a new coach and GM the next, like what happened in Chicago. Instead of building around the QB in the second year ( first year for the coach and GM ) they went heavy defense. Kind of like when the Cardinals had Rosen and then got KK to coach the team and then boom, they were moving on from him. New GMs like to sign and draft their own "guys" and not reward the previous guys guys who happened to get him fired.
  2. Probably because they aren't "Poles Players" since he just joined. So all these guys on the team are from a previous regime and none are up for extensions yet.
  3. I think they had discussions with him already on an extension before making the deal official. And franchise tagging him probably get him for cheaper for one season than a new contract would have.
  4. Johnson is a significant upgrade over Hill and Henderson. Evero in his year running the Denver defense was low on sacks, his leader had 6.5 on the season, but an elite corner in Surtain and their offense sucked but he still held teams back from scoring a ton despite that. Doesn't seem like his defense needs a pass rusher that is a monster. They dialed up a lot of pressure from the linebackers. Getting an elite corner and multiple picks that can be used to load up and go after a top WR or lineman for Bryce doesn't at all seem like something that is the worst trade ever, dumbest thing of all time, horrible move etc. But the good news is, we don't have to do that as Chicago already got a better defensive end for just a second rounder.
  5. Chicago isn't going to swap out DJ Moore back to the Panthers. He will help their next QB out next year. Try another trade. Only we were dumb enough to trade DJ and then go draft a QB,
  6. And who are you proposing we trade him for? Its easy to call everything stupid and dumb and oh em gee the worst thing ever but its a lot more difficult to use thought and propose a trade that makes some sense. Show your work.
  7. You have to nail the pick. Also, what second round defensive lineman this season is putting up good sack totals and run stopping numbers? AND you have to hope he signs in free agency. They could be just as likely to not sign him in free agency and miss on the pick. Its the Bears.
  8. We also need to make a call on Horn soon who is our best player on the field when he is out there. Cap can go away quick.
  9. And he is super valuable as a run stopper on the edge. Burns value is tied up 100% in rushing the passer. Sweat this season has been better at it and their run grades aren't even close. We should lock up Burns BEFORE Sweat gets his money.
  10. I don't sub to PFF so I asked for the PFF ranks on Burns compared to Sweat, here is where they are at vs the run. So Sweat has been more productive this season as a pass rusher and he is significantly better in the run game.
  11. Great trade honestly. Bears still have 2 top 5 picks plus I think 2025 year yall have 2 seconds as well.
  12. And I think Burns is going to get more than that. Burns argument just simply needs to be "Nobody through my age in the history of the NFL has as many sacks as me, ever". Or at least that was true last year and he is on pace for another 10+ sack season. Burns is going to beat both the Gary deal and the Sweat deal. Chicago had over 100 million in cap space for next year. They can give this kid 28 per year and still have over 70 million left.
  13. I think I need to update my LinkedIn to include "NFC Player Personnel Executive".
  14. This is a smart move for them at low cost. The Bears have the most cap room in the NFL next year. Money isn't an issue. Sweat in 2023: 8 games played , 32 tackles, 11 solo, 6.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass defense and 7.5 stuffs. Burns in 2023: 7 games played, 21 total tackles, 14 solo, 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, no passes defended and 4 stuffs. They are getting a Burns level player this season and he will only cost a second plus he won't get Burns level money in the extension.
