  1. Ughh did you see what the team did after drafting him? Gave him no reps with the ones, started Dalton over him, got rid of Allen Robinson, got rid of an offensive lineman named James Daniels who gave up no sacks this year in Pitt, got rid of every player on the defensive front seven who was even league average…like they gutted the roster and somehow this is surprising that they are losing?
  2. Fields isn’t getting traded. Bears aren’t picking at #1 overall. And yes, at OSU Fields is thought of more highly than Stroud. Stroud lost to Michigan twice. And as good as he played against UGA, Fields game, hurt , against Clemson was even better.
  3. Starting stud safety on the team basically telling folks to stop projecting him in trades. He’s not going anywhere.
  4. Brady won a bunch of Super Bowls while not on a rookie deal. Mahomes just won one not on a rookie deal. Stafford won one not on a rookie deal. I care less about having the guy on a rookie deal and more about having a guy worth a second contract.
  5. Fields once hit his WR ESB in the hands to end a game. Fields hit Mooney in the endzone where he dropped the ball to end the game. Fields completed a pass to their #6 WR who fought to stay in bounds and ended up fumbling the ball away to allow the other team to kneel twice and call it a game. They cut him after that. Fields lead the Bears to a stretch of five games where they were the offensive scoring leaders of the NFL. They lost all five because they have no defense and gave up 34 points a game. I know it’s fun to just say he was put in a position to win games at the end and he failed but these were just a few I could think of off the top of my head where you have to ask, what more did you want him to do? He completed one and his guy fumbled it. He had two others where he hit the guy in the hands for a conversion and they dropped it. The Bears were running guys like St Brown, Pettis, Pringle out there. Dudes not good enough to crack the top four on their older teams. Mooney is a good #2 but he’s not a 1 and by the time they got Claypool they only played one game together where they both played over 70% of the snaps. Their offense lacks talent. Their defense lacks talent up front. Fields was not the problem there. And his teammates agree with that and that’s why they’ve been so outspoken in favor of him. This isn’t a Zach Wilson scenario where his teammates are campaigning for a different QB.
  6. 1. The Bears aren’t going to trade Fields. 2. If the Bears were trying to trade Fields I don’t believe a single first rounder is going to do it for a multitude of reasons. The Bears moved up to get him. So they invested multiple picks. He has improved as a passer despite his lack of weapons around him. He has shown he might be the top runner in all of football which will allow him more time to develop as a passer. He got an MVP vote this year. 3. if we could have Fields going into his year 3 for just the #9 overall pick that would be a steal for us and I’d do it in a heartbeat. 4. It wouldn’t make sense from a team standpoint for the Bears. Are you a better team with Stroud, Levis, Young or Richardson plus another player at 9 Vs Fields plus all the additional picks you get could for trading down one or two times? Does it make sense for us? Yes. Does it make sense for the Bears? No.
  7. I dont know that I would refer to our history as inconsistently good. I would say that never having back to back winning seasons makes us consistently bad. Even with Cam here and Ron we had like what? Three winning record seasons in nine years or something like that? We had a game changer at MLB and QB and still found a way to lose more than we won. If these past few years have finally lead us to a franchise LT followed by a franchise QB it’ll be worth it. And we will break the curse of never having back to back winning seasons.
  8. Folks in the NFL never swing and miss?
  9. Neither Eason or MC9 are starters in this league.
  10. I’ve always been a fan of Minshew and would support taking Minshew over everyone in the draft that isn’t Stroud.
  11. I keep saying this but we need to cheer for the Bears to win free agency on defense. The Bears have almost 100m in cap space. They had the fewest sacks in the NFL but they love their young secondary. if they can sign Daron Payne, and another DT like Hargraves from the Eagles I think they’d be willing to swap 1 for 9 and Brian Burns. They’d also have to pay Burns. This would make the Bears significantly better on defense, still have 30m or so cap leftover, Burns would look better in Chicago lined up next to two guys who each crossed 10 sacks this year and the Bears could switch their eyes to helping Fields on offense in round 1 with a lineman or WR. Then at 1 we are guaranteed to get our guy which would hopefully be Stroud. We can use the money we saved by not giving Burns a monster contract and give it to a guy like Yannick who is the same player for less money.
  12. Yet the Bears GM already named Fields the 2023 starter and folks here still think the Bears are going QB at pick 1 and then trading Fields away.
  13. Will Anderson probably won’t take until year 4 of his rookie contract to cross ten sacks in a season.
  14. The Rams deal was overrated and so is Brian Burns so it was fair. The firsts would not have been in this draft but the following two drafts. That lowers their value. Burns gets abused in the run game. He gets after the QB at a good rate but often struggles to convert the pressure into a sack. We’ve all seen him hit or wrap up a QB and then they get out of it. It happens. He’s not this uber elite game disruptor. He’s Yannick Ngokoue but drafted in the first round. Never had less than 8 sacks in a season and his high was 12 but since the Jags let him go he’s been on four teams in three years. You fall for the sack stat and then realize teams can beat you simply by forcing your run game in his direction. That’s who Brian Burns is until he can figure out how to be more disruptive in the run game.
  15. If you’re falling for folks over a pro day you are likely the type of GM that falls for Zach Wilson. As far as what he could say that doesn’t hurt Fields value “we are evaluating the entire roster at the moment”. When you outright say yea he’s the starter next year that means less teams are going to reach out about him now. But it’s irrelevant. Nobody really thinks the Bears are picking a first round QB or trading Justin Fields. It’s just arguing for the sake of upping post count.
  16. He didn’t just say we like Justin he said he’s our starting QB next year. He could have answered that very differently and still not lowered his value. You’re lying to yourself if you think the Bears are going to select a QB first overall here.
  17. The new GM shouldn’t lessen the value of his pick by stating outright he’s not drafting one of these guys. But he already went on record and said Fields is the starter come 2023. That about as big of an endorsement as you can get. You aren’t going to find a GM in football ruling out positions he won’t draft because of players he’s got on the roster. That hurts the value of their draft slots.
  18. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/bears-gm-ryan-poles-must-be-blown-away-draft-qb-no-1 When asked if Fields was the 2023 starter he literally said yeah. Later he was asked if they would consider a QB at 1. He said he’d have to be blown away. It’s literally him trying to not lose value on the #1 pick so they can trade it. Also, Warren Sapp has 0 connections to the Bears. The Bears would be trading away Fields and going with a much less mobile CJ Stroud? A much undersized Young? Two project QBs in Levis and Richardson who have never been as accurate as Fields in college? It makes no sense.
  19. During the lead up to the draft folks were reporting live on air that Fields wasn’t a first in last out kind of guy. It was false then and then it’s been demonstrably false since. The new GM Ryan Poles already declared Justin Fields the 2023 starter.
  20. The higher ups in Chicago love him. Not sure where you’re seeing those in charge think otherwise. As do the other players. They are going to trade the pick or go defense first overall. DJ Moore in 2023 will cost more than the entire Bears WR room did this season. The problem isn’t the QB. I think the Bears WR room cost 11 million against the cap. For all of them. It was bad.
  21. Andrew Luck was the can’t miss prospect of the Cam Newton class until he decided to go back to school. Spencer Rattler had future first rounder written all over him until he didn’t. Jevan Snead went from first overall projections to undrafted in one season. Maye or Caleb could stay in school. They could get hurt. They could play worse. The last kid from Carolina was a sure fire first rounder and then he wasn’t. Until they are declaring they are not a can’t miss prospect of the class.
