I think the thing I would get the most upset about out draft is if we draft a QB in round 2.
-
TBH, I would be a little disappointed if we draft a QB in the 1st round. The very best case situation for our team is that he plays to his #3 overall draft status and we build around him.

Would the Panthers sign Lamar Jackson if the Ravens dump him?

Sorry, if you just dont resign them. -

Especially when the new discussion on top QB contracts are that they should get a % of the cap as opposed to just a defined contract number... There needs to be a reset on the QB market. -

If they dump him they probably still get a comp pick out of the deal... -

Interesting theory about cycling QB's. I mean I doubt it would ever happen but the theory is interesting. Some draft people say that you should draft a 1st round QB every year because the upside is so high and the risk is so low. Meaning you draft a 1st round QB, he stinks you can often still trade him for a #1 or high value pick. (See Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Carsen Wentz, as an example). -
Interesting 1st RD mock firm bleacher report

Thats fair. I do like the idea of trading down and staying in the top half of the 1st round still. -

Its just that there is no context here.. Reading this I have no idea what happened.. -
POV: You are Joe Brady. What do you want in the draft?
CanadianCat replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I'm JB, I want to make Sam a superstar. That will guarantee me a HC position next year. So give me weapons to show off my offensive genius. If I'm Joe Brady, I'm pounding the table for a WR. -
Im high on Fields. If he is there draft him.

Am I the only one that imagines Teddy watching these getting totally triggered? -
And I would agree to a restructure.

I dont think players should be at fault to the contracts that they are offered..

No matter how this plays out, having 40 massage therapists is weird AF...

Seems like a lot of strong opinions on these guys.. Are they the smartest people in the room? A good additional resource? Or do they over analyze everything? How do you guys view them?

As much as I would love to draft skill positions, I think we need a really unsexy draft this year. I would be ok with doubling down on OLINE in the 1st and 2nd.
-
If Sam comes in and has a hell of a season, there is 0% chance that Brady is here next year (which really sucks for Sam ... again) Who replaces Brady? Is that guy on staff?
-
I think this is the last draft we really have an advantage with Rhule and his college insights.. I think getting more picks in this draft makes sense. I think 2nd and 3rd rounders for us this year are like gold if we can get more. So Im into trading back.
-
Lance falling could be the best thing for us for a trade back situation. Some of the smartest drafting teams are ones that have traded back, received extra picks and continually trade one of those away per year to gain more. Look what Miami has done with the Tonsil picks (minus their trade back up) Fit seems to be of that mindset. I think a trade back for future 1st's makes sense given the needs on the roster. We are still in a rebuild..

Report: CB AJ Bouye close to deal with Panthers
CanadianCat replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would tend to agree with this. Fans and team alike need to show patience of building the team the right way as this is likely a 3-4 year rebuild to the top of the division. However I think if we draft a QB this draft then they are trying to accelerate that schedule. -
I dont think its as simple as some on here are making it sound. Some back up QB's (Anderson for example) have extended their careers because of their willingness to do this.. some choose not to. Really the choice is up to Teddy. Teddy will have to decide if he thinks he can be QB1 or if he wasn't to reside as a high-end back up option. If he thinks he can be QB1 then I expect he will use every advantage he has to be better than Sam including not sharing the 'trade secrets'. Worst case he gets cut, gets paid and try's to get onto another team. But honestly his best option would be to bring along Sam. Earn a reputation of being a good teammate and try to get a 10 year back up career out of the deal.. But I wouldn't blame the guy if he was an ass to Sam..

To me the interesting thing is what do we do about the offensive scheme. The article said it would be an open comp. So if thats the case then its not going to be tailored to what Sam can do best. So does that actually give us the best chance of success?? Doesn't seem like it
