Big Ben on drafting a QB and roster building
Loyalty4Life replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
There isn't a right way. You take advantage of the opportunities you have. Finding the right mix is almost an art form or luck. Right situation, right GM, right coach, right players. With as much money as the NFL has, if there was a way to build a successful team every team would be trying to build the same way. Ben is just leaning into his bias because that was how it worked with him and he had great success. -
Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panthers History
Loyalty4Life replied to dep's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's not just Canales. With analytics and the current kickoff rules there's much more incentive to go for it. The team ahead of us with 41 is the Jets but they were only successful 43.9% of the time. Bills tried it 32 times with a 59% conversion rate. Eagles only 21 times with a 52.4% conversion rate. -
Looks like a lot of QB's who face the Seahawks defense.

We were 2nd in the league this year going for on 4th down 40 times. We were successful 67.6 % of the time, 4th best in the league. I like that trick. -
It's a parity league. The underdog wins 30-40% of the time. Teams cover the spread around 50% of the time which means close games. The "likely" outcome isn't as likely as it seems in the NFL, especially in the playoffs. That game was one of the most electric and exciting playoffs games we've ever been in and Bank of America stadium was jacked. I love that this young team got to experience that. Easy to say it wasn't worth it or a team had no chance after the fact. You don't wait for the cards to get stacked in your favor to try and make a playoff run or win a Superbowl.

Bryce did not have a good game. Giving up a punt return for a TD, missing a 55 yard FG and giving them a short field, giving up a 61 yard punt return to our own 14 yard line. We crossed their 50 yard line numerous times after the first drive. We scored on the opening drive. Held them to 3 and out. Went from our 23 to their 45, punted. NE return for a TD. Went from our 40 to their 40, punted. NE tore through us for 80 yards in 6 plays to score a TD. Went from our 12 to their 37. Missed FG. NE takes a short field and scores again. Start on our 18. 5yd penality on us. 0 yd run, Incomplete deep pass. 2 yd run. Punt. NE returns the punt to our 14 and score again. Then open the 2nd half and score again. We start on our on 6 and drive it to their 35 where we go for it on 4th, don't get it and turn it over on downs. It was really over by this point. Field position / special teams were the difference in this game. We had more rushing yards, overall yards, 1st downs and time of possession in our favor by 10 minutes. NE had had some great playcalling keeping us off balance. There were the better team on all 3 sides of the ball that day. Maye had an elite game but only had to pass the ball 17 times. No turnovers by either side. This wasn't a game to showcase how good or bad Bryce Young was at the time. -
All teams are 0-0 once the playoffs start. If that was a futile effort then someone forgot to tell the team and I'm sure the Rams would disagree. NFL is a parity league which is one of the things that make it so exciting. Any given Sunday. So many things change, so many uncontrollable variables that you have to take advantage of every opportunity. There are guys who went to the playoffs their rookie year and then never make it back. We haven't been since 2017 before this year.

Seahawks defense is for real. Mike Macdonald is for real. Any QB is going to have issues with that defense, especially if the surrounding talent is absent or injured. -
Thirty years as a NFL team and we've made the playoffs 9 times. I don't want to waste any chance of winning a Superbowl. If the doctors say he is fine to play and Robert wants to play I don't see any issues. I'd also want to know the extent of what information doctors and the team had when making the decision to allow him to continue playing. I'm not a doctor. I don't know how much, if any, he was jeopardizing his future career. I don't like guys playing with significant injuries but it's the NFL. I think it would be difficult to find a player who has not played through injury. That's one of the reason I hated extending the season and not playing on grass. Other players in the NFL have played with an injured pectoral muscle such as TJ Watt and notably Chris Spielman who played an entire season with a torn pec.

The kool-aid is poison!

I don't know if I've every heard someone use the word, "Propaganda" and not mean it in a negative context. The same goes for phrases like "agents of the organization" or "drinking the kool-aid". Even if you're not, it comes across as negative and insulting to Stew. He's never been the type of person to be critical of individuals. Just not his style. Doesn't mean he's trying to pull a fast one, mislead you, or outright lying. Should employees of the Panthers be objective when interacting with fans? Is that even reasonable?

No, both instances of references to the defense were specific to the run defense. I should have said "run defense" the 2nd time. You admit there has been ample personal issue but then use those stats to support your argument. I'm not arguing on the effectiveness of his specific scheme overall. I'm saying he is only now getting the proper personal to run his scheme. The stats are the stats and while I don't disagree with any of what you're saying, 3 years of those stats are based on the Panthers front office not giving him the tools to run a competitive NFL defense until this year with D. Brown getting healthy and the additional of Tre'von Moehrig. I want to see his defense when we don't have multiple key starter positions manned with players who would IMHO are not starting level players. With some talent I say all this while not being a big fan of his scheme. I would prefer a 4-3 but that's neither here or there. And yes, I would call getting requests and interviews from other teams who want to hire him good evidence that he may be a pretty good DC and has a lot of potential as a HC. In 2022 he had HC requests from the Broncos, Colts, and Texans. He also had requests for DC from the Vikings, Falcons and the Panthers. We hired him to be our DC. In 2023 it was the Falcons, Raiders and Seahawks for a HC position. In 2024 the Falcons, Seahawks and the Panthers interviewd him for HC. We blocked the Jags from a DC interview. In 2025 (which is this years hiring cycle) so far its the Falcons, Raiders and just today the Steelers, all for the HC position.

That was funny.

J-Stew is an ex-panther who is a huge fan of the team and also on the pay role. He also knows these guys personally. Is it good marketing? Propaganda? An opinion? His argument in a court of law? I think the real question is what the fug does it matter?

Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panthers History

Those are not hushed whispers. It's open mocking and implied ridicule because of how myopic most of your posts are. I don't see even the biggest Bryce fans unable to see issues Bryce has to continue to work on. No one has said they are ready to give me a long term franchise contract, yet those that should not be named are 100% sure, hand on the bible facts that Bryce is the worst ever. That anyone that sees progress, improvement or a version of Bryce that could become that franchise QB are morons and it's impossible for there to be an validity to possibility. If one side of a discussion is extremely dogmatic on every single point it's hard to have a legitimate or good faith argument.
