Sounds like Leota has been flashing the last few days, which is good for a UDFA. Hopefully nobody overreacts to Ickey getting beat cuz they don’t have pads on today.
-
I feel like there might be some surprises when it comes to who the O-line depth may be. I’ve seen Mike Kaye and Steve Smith mention UDFA guys like Nash Jensen and JD DiRenzo (?) who have been impressing people. I believe Nash has even gotten reps with the 1st team O-line. So it’ll be interesting to see how that pans out.

Correct.
-
Oh no! The horror! Nah but seriously it’s sounded like Bryce has had a good day overall.
-
Of the newer reporters covering the team, I feel like Mike Kaye comes across as the straightest of shooters. So when Im reading his stuff I usually pay attention because he seems to just be blunt with his analysis which works. All that to say, he's been fairly complimentary of Bryce even with the mistakes.

Again, Im not even saying the Panthers should be looked at as the favorite because you're right, we are unproven. My argument is more so that the Saints shouldn't be viewed as the "far and away" favorite to win the South like some analysts predict. I honestly think Dalton and Carr played comparable football last year so I don't believe it's a far and away upgrade at QB, but I've never been a real Derek Carr believer. And the main thing is that I don't believe in Dennis Allen as a HC or his OC. A lot of times the margin of error between wins and losses comes down to coaching and I don't believe Dennis Allen is the coach to get them where they wanna be. Great DC, not so great HC.

"Significant" is a reach imo. There's been plenty of reports of him having positive 11 v 11 sessions in camp, and yeah those are the sessions where the picks have come from but by all accounts in practice, he follows an interception with good follow up reps. That's a trend I've seen consistently reported. Any pro QB should do well in 7 v 7 reps. The 11 v 11 reps are the true test because of the pressure for sure but I think you saying there's been "significant" drop off is dramatic. We don't have to crown Bryce now but we also don't have to be overdramatic about stuff either.

I really wish I could understand the Saints hype or at least why people think they’re “clear” favorites. Carr is coming off a terrible season, Dennis Allen is still very unproven as a head coach, lot of turnover on their D-line and Cam Jordan is producing less as he ages, it’s odd. Not that I think the Panthers are gonna run away with the division but the Saints being like heavily favored is weird.

I mean if the defense wasn’t getting picks then people would be upset that they’re letting a rookie carve them up. Also, he’s a rookie, picks will happen, it won’t be perfect. It’d be more concerning if he was having multi-interception days, which to this point he hasn’t. Breathe, it’ll be okay lol

Monday Panthers Practice - Pads go on today!
BlackPanther22 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I feel like Cade will be fine and that they’re probably gonna intentionally toss a lot of double teams at DB to simulate what he’ll likely get in a real game scenario. I’m honestly more interested on how things go whenever Zavala gets off PUP which I hope is this week. -

On the O-line? 4 of the starting 5 from last year are still injury free *knock on wood* and Cade has been filling in at RG. I think you’re thinking of last week when they were shuffling some of the line ups to see what they had depth wise (according to Reich). -

Might give him a smidge more time in the pocket imo seeing as how the o-line can really put hands on the d-linemen now. We shall see. Hoping we hear about them running some situational stuff at practice today. Seems like it’s been a lot of 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 but not much 2 minute/red zone to this point. Maybe they wanted to wait on pads to get to that stuff. -

Matt Rhule guy gone. Curious to see what the corresponding move will be. -
I’ll be real curious to see how the Captains situation pans out this year too. You’d have to imagine the returning captains get their spots back (Chinn, Burns, Shaq, Donte, Moton) and I feel like Theilen gets one and the early returns on Bryce make me think he’s gonna be a captain year 1 too.

I think it varies from system to system. Some use the center to ID the Mike and set protections and others put a lot of that on the QB. Frank has been on the record in saying that our offense will put a lot on the QB as far as audibles and protections so that may be the difference here.
-
I would hope not, and I’m sure I mean the coaches approved of it before hand. It’s probably more so a thing of making sure everyone is on the same page with language and communication. I don’t think he was in there telling them how to pass set or anything lmaoo

Was on twitter when I came across this clip of an interview Bozeman did yesterday where he told the reporter that Bryce gave the O-line a presentation on protections the other day. Not to like overly hype Bryce but I feel like that’s kind of an insane thing for a rookie to do or even have the confidence to do. If the play on the field matches a lot of what we’ve heard about him, man we could have somebody special on our hands.

Am I the only one who didn’t think this was anything crazy? I thought the gesture was clearly Steve joking around and trying to get Bryce to sing on air and Bryce going along with it and just saying he wasn’t gonna do that in a joking way. I feel like I see people play around like this all the time where I’m from. I have enjoyed seeing Bryce’s personality shine a bit more through these training camp interviews though. You can tell he’s getting more comfortable.

Danielle Hunter available for trade?
BlackPanther22 replied to Smithers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Like the player, not for a trade right now though given limited assets and the fact that this is a contract year for him. I think 2024 will be a big FA spending year for us though with so much dead money coming off the books so maybe we can revisit it then, if he doesn’t get extended by whoever trades for him. -
Yeah, a few of the beat writers have noted that they’ve been mixing up O-line personnel a lot this week and I think they even asked Frank about it. I saw a clip today where Bryce was at QB and there was a #74 at left tackle and idek who that is on our roster. Needless to say, once pads come on and we get deeper into camp, O-line protection will tighten up and Bryce will be out there with the true 1st team O line regularly.

Honestly doesn’t sound like he’s had an egregiously bad day yet, which is encouraging. It’d be more of a negative indictment on our defense if they were letting a rookie carve them up daily and didn’t get a pick or two. As long as Bryce doesn’t string together any crazy multi-interception days, I’m not trippin. And even if those do happen, it’s all about how he responds.
-
I know Reich said they won’t put full pads on until Monday but do y’all think they’ll at least do shells this week?
-
I see y'all have been spending the bulk of this thread arguing about this throw. But from this angle I think it looks clear that Taylor got beat because Chark had inside leverage and that Woods came in trialing the throw. From the other angle it did look like it was sandwiched in between two guys charging at Chark but I think this makes it look clearer. From the angle Woods was coming in from had he made contact and not let up even in a in game scenario he'd probably get hit with PI I'd think because he'd probably would've made contact before the ball hit Chark.

Question because my memory is failing me; Do they put pads on for the first week at all or do they ease into it and go full on in week 2?
-
It’s super weird. Like at best, they’re the 3rd best team in their division this year with the potential to be the worst if Jordan Love is good because the Packers have a better overall roster than Chicago does. They legit might have the worst D-Line in football. Also, we didn’t even pick in the top 5 once through the Rhule era so if somehow the pick we gave them turns out to be top 5, something went horribly wrong.
