My observations are that Stroud is a rookie and no matter how good you look in training camp, your first appearance in a real game is a whole different scenario. Of course Mills looked more comfortable out there.. which is why we should probably temper our expectations on Saturday. Having said that, if Young DOES impress, we'll KNOW we have something special. Other observation: Holton Ahlers is a legit QB. He proved it in college. In three exhibition games. And even last night. Whether or not he gets a chance is another thing entirely.

It'll be a short, but entertaining appearance by Holton. Started with a fumbled snap on the first play but was able to recover it. Had two big scrambles. Then threw a prayer while under pressure that turned into a TD, Thanks to a great play by the receiver Matt Landers. With 2 minutes left, Ahlers is 4-4, 43 yards, TD. 3 rushes for 29 yards.

Well, that was a fun drive.

Wow. It's all Drew Lock tonight, it seems.
-
Yup. They keep breaking transmission for World Cup soccer.
-
Actually I got confused. It switched to soccer, weirdly.

Son of a...they just blocked the game all of a sudden. I live in Portland so it's considered "local". That's some B.S.!
-
Hope so. Probably later.

I hope Holton Ahlers gets to play for the Seahawks tonight. Gotta root for my fellow ECU Pirates!

I'll bet Stroud will be back out later. Either way, looks like same old Texans for now. O-line did look like he'll at the start, though.

It's Jets joint practice Day 1 (8.9.2023)
96Bravo replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I know Mays struggled out there, but I think it's a matter of playing time. Brady and even Icky needed substantial playing time to get better. So, while I want Corbett back too, I think Cade needs more experience like he got yesterday in order to get better. -

Considering how great the Jets' D is supposed to be, looks like a pretty good day for Bryce. Finished 14-22 completions. -
McCall at NT makes sense to me. I prefer Brown and Tuttle as DE anyway. Gives our D-line a nasty balance, I think.

Dang! I didn't even know this guy was available. Nice pick up.
-
I would lose no sleep if we got rid of him. He's okay, but not reliable in the passing game. The only reason we even drafted the guy was from them whim of Mrs. Rhule.
-
I'm sure he's ready for the season ...I just want him to drink nothing but milk everyday. Strengthen those bones!

NFL Network has been showing a bunch of Viking games. Time and time again I'm watching Thielen get open, while Cousins throws a pass to Jefferson in coverage. Including the Colts game they're showing right now. I mean, he doesn't even seem to be looking Thielen's direction most of the time. There's a reason he wanted to leave . I think he's gonna have his best season in years.

Offensive support cast ranked 31st in the league
96Bravo replied to panthers55's topic in Carolina Panthers
Does anyone remember the VERY brief time we had Dan Arnold a couple of years ago? Not the greatest TE, yet made more of an impression in just a few games than our other TE's. I know Hurst will be even better. -

Seems like our team is severely underrated...which is just fine with me. I think we might just shock the league. -
In his most recent press conference, Dante Jackson said he's been impressed with Stantley Thomas Oliver in mini-camp...so maybe STO will be more effective this season?
-
Based on my eye test of his footage (and our needs), I say Redmond has a good chance of making the roster.
-
Just watched plays from defensive lines of Oklahoma, Auburn and Oregon. I must say I was very impressed with Redmond's performance against Kansas State. He was constantly doubled and still came up with some great plays. Unfortunately, I was less impressed with what I saw from Leota and DJ Johnson in their footage. It is a small sample size though. Plus they were primarily playing DE in 4-3 formation so they may be more effective as OLB in 3-4?
-
I wouldn't undervalue these weapons. Maybe none of these guys are considered #1 receivers, but they have enough talent and experience to give Young a balanced attack...which may fit his style of quarterbacking anyway. Plus Sanders and Hurst should be solid safety nets for the rookie also. Finally, what's the other option? Trade away more valuable assets to get someone considered "elite"?
-
Well, I'm excited! Given that Bryce's o-line allowed a lot of pressure last year and he didn't have the best receivers, he's in an ideal situation at Carolina. He'll have a good o-line to protect him. A good running game to support him. Good weapons to target. And a defense that will keep them in most games. Honestly, a QB picked first overall in the draft couldn't have asked for a better environment.

Post draft... what positions do you think we are weakest at?
96Bravo replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think maybe depth at CB...unless one of these undrafted rookies pans out. Otherwise, I'm concerned about the front line on D. I like Tuttle and Brown. Not sure if Tuttle should be NT. Even if he is, I'm skeptical about Williams on the other side. I feel like we should try natural NT Bravion Roy in the middle, with Tuttle and Brown at DE. More balanced. But maybe we have another player in mind? I think we're fine at TE. I like our LB Corp, especially if Chinn returns to a similar role as his rookie year. I also like our WR group. All this chatter about needing a "number 1" receiver might be moot given Bryce Young's style.
