  1. Just sitting back and thinking it all over. If we make no other trades we’ve already improved on both offense and defense with Bunting and Orlov. And if we get DeAngelo at half price that’s not a bad deal either, can provide some offensive punch or a scrapper from the blue line when we need it.
  2. What are we trying to do here make our defense worse? I don’t get it.
  3. Well if we do pick up TDA and Karlsson both we could put them on the same shift any time we are way ahead and feeling sorry for the other team, and provide them with a leaking like a sieve defensive duo lol.
  4. I think that could work. Play Tony when you need a goal, sit him when you’re ahead to keep it that way. But then who is out a whole game on the offensive line?
  5. We’re keeping all three, Freddie, Raanta, and Pytor, yay!
  6. Well my pick doesn’t count since it wouldn’t have included DeAngelo or Karlsson haha. Orlov at 2. And… Have no idea what’s going to happen.
  7. Why weaken the defense trading Pesce? The only reason the Canes won’t extend his contract is if the asking price and length of contract is too much.
  8. Yeah I know he’s the Norris trophy winner for defensemen. Just adding perspective. Just don’t quite understand the Canes, known for their defense, sees this as the best move when offensive line scoring is the weakest spot that Bunting should help with.
  9. With a $11.5 million AAV on Karlssons contract more than one change would have to happen, that’s for sure. Trades, TDA not picked up, retained salary, etc. Canes have around 2.8 million in cap space left (per Cap Friendly) before picking up TDA (2.5 mil if 50% retained by the Flyers).
  10. Walt wasn’t the only guy talking about the “in principle” agreement on DeAngelo. Did you read the Waddell interview transcript? This is what gives me doubts they can keep Tony if they get Karlsson (and they would be way over cap without more than one D man trade).
  11. Also this-combined with other things said in the interview it seems to me that if Canes do sign Karlsson, they trade a D man and likely don’t sign DeAngelo. There’s only so much money.
  12. Ok here is transcript of the Don Waddell interview which includes the questions asked. Far more accurate than my summary above. https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/carolina-hurricanes/news/don-waddell-on-free-agency-moves-we-have-now-become-a-destination-place
  13. Did anyone listen to Don Waddell’s interview on todays trades? I just finished listening, a little frustrating because you couldn't hear some of the questions that were asked. In any case my takeaways (if you listened feel free to chime in): *They are happy where they are with the team with signings and extensions made today. I got the impression he doesn’t think they have to do anything else major. *Some potential for another trade (talks) *DeAngelo trade agreed in principle but sounded to me he hedged a bit in regard to potential other trade possibility (possibility mentioned above)? Don’t quote me on this just my impression it was a bit confusing. * Couldn’t hear the question but he’s talking to agent Gerry Johannson to reach agreement on someone - I’m guessing a Seth Jarvis extension? Only Canes player he reps I think.
  14. Nice team. Probably don’t blow over the cap limit by more than 6-8 million haha.
  15. Just reviewed Michael Bunting stats for 2022-2023, compared to Canes forwards stats a little closer. He would have placed 4th in points from the forwards, not bad but not huge numbers at 49 points and 7 PPG. To me this is who the Canes see as our scoring forward scoring addition if we are going after Killorn on defense (who is a scoring threat as well). thus no big time forward scorer. Will that be enough for a real cup run?
  16. Getting Karlsson means we’re not gonna get a scoring forward and counting on our defense to score.
  17. Yeah I’ve seen those tweets. Why would San Jose be willing to retain 50%? With 3 teams after him (or 2 depending on the speculator) I don’t think that’s gonna happen. Karlsson is a $11.5 mil AAV contract. Also saw a tweet that a deal isn’t close so expect something in an hour haha.
  18. Karlsson has 3 teams going after him, Penguins, Seattle, Canes. If Pesce goes I don’t see how the Canes can get him for the ~7 mil in cap space we would have left without some creative wrangling to avoid cap limit.
  19. Gonna hold you too that, have a beer emoji headed your way if it happens. If not, we’ll you know which emoji I’m sending haha.
  20. No one is saying Orlov isn’t a good pickup. It’s just concern that $7.5 mil AAV might keep from addressing Canes weakest spot- a top scoring forward. Maybe it won’t stop getting a scorer if Pesce goes, but until we pick up that forward who can score then don’t expect some of us to celebrate. We’re all just expressing our opinions here and we don’t have to agree. And I’m pretty calm lol.
  21. tend to agree, a good pickup but at a $7.5 mil AAV if that keeps us from picking up a high dollar scoring forward we won’t see a cup next season (and maybe the following season).
