Round 3 - The Carolina Panthers Select DJ Johnson - EDGE - Oregon
WhoKnows replied to rodeo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fitt has been so phenomenal drafting so far. Looks like the Ravens liked Simpson, SMH. Lord I hope Bryce leads us to the promised land because Fitt doesn’t seem any better after the 1st than Hurney. -

Lol, because we’ve been so good at drafting the past few years that we should never question them? I’d take Simpson or Washington over DJ, but oh well, he’s our guy. -
Round 3 - The Carolina Panthers Select DJ Johnson - EDGE - Oregon

He likely would have been available for our 4th. -
After all the trade backs in 2021 we got a ton of nickels that honestly didn’t make our team any better. I’d rather just draft the guy at 39 who we think is the best player rather than get two guys later in the 2nd/3rd that are both less talented than the guy at 39. You have more chances to hit but more of a chance of getting a bunch of easily replaceable guys who don’t help you win. At some point we need more above average starters so we have a more talented team.

And? We only had a chance at the playoffs because we were in a division with no one over .500. He’s not a game changer. He’s a solid edge but he doesn’t take over games. Young is far more valuable to our future and no one can argue against that. We got an offer for Burns that was on the level of a franchise QB and we’re about to break the bank on Burns. It’s as simple as that. We would have been smarter to use all those picks to have 3 2nds and 3 firsts from this draft through 2025 even after trading away what we did for Young. Those 6 picks can solidify great talent around Young to make him really successful and we’d still have $25-30M a year for two very solid D FAs and our 3rds and day 3 picks. Sometimes you need to take a risk. We did that trading up for Young and trading Burns for 5 potential solid starters was a worthwhile risk. We didn’t so c’est la vie, but @KSpan was looking at all the talent we would like to have and realizing we could take 2 of these guys without trading up if we made that deal.

Exactly what I was thinking. Good RBs know how to avoid bad hits and aside from Henry, know when to go down/make the tackle not so bad. When a QB gets hit, it can be with no warning and it can be a bad hit. That’s why people are more concerned about Young’s size. Even if we get a flag for being driven into the ground, you have to worry about a 300+ pound man causing a should injury to a 190 (his real playing weight) pound man. Hopefully, the OL and his vision keep that to a minimum.

I don’t know why this is so misunderstood. There were 3 really good picks and then FA money of $25-30M a year that we wouldn’t be spending on Burns. It also doesn’t matter if we replace Burns. It’s the overall value you get. Young is our marquee guy now, not Burns. We’ve had Burns for 4 years now and have 22 wins. He’s not Von Miller. He’s a solid edge rusher but he’s not winning us a SB. Young on the other hand, could bring us to the promised land if he’s as good as we hope he is. Pick 36 could be a stud TE and we’d still have 39 to get an Edge or CB. Then, we could sign a FA or two for $10-15M a year a piece. Then, we have the Rams next two firsts to maybe get a Waddle, Chase, Wilson, Olave, etc. and a top OL or Edge or CB. Sorry, but Burns is not more valuable than 3 rookies at pick 36, top 10 or 15 and top 10-15 and two FAs both making $10-15M a year. Yes, we could fug up all three picks and the FA signings, but Fitterer is supposed to be amazing so what if we hit on all 5 players. The upside is that we get a Will Anderson and 4 more solid starters.

100%. I loved Burns and wanted us to draft him but the offer was crazy, especially if you were willing to take a risk that the Rams sucked. Honestly, I think McVeigh might not have come back if they did make that trade and he didn’t have 36 and his next two firsts as well. Forget about replacing, Burns, plenty of FA money available to improve the D. Just think about how many weapons/much protection we could give Young even after the trade up to get him.

Win now after dumping Ramsey and Robinson for almost nothing?
-
I hope he’s our franchise QB, but not gonna lie, I laughed when a friend sent me this a few minutes ago.

Yeah, I truly don’t get the Fitt love (yet). Another thread had so much love for Fitt’s wheeling and dealing so trade down from 39. In the 2021 draft, we traded down a ton and missed a bunch of really solid OL. We made 11 picks and got Horn at 8 and 10 easily replaceable players. 1 solid starter who has ended two seasons on the sideline and no other players who make our team better. 2022 draft was Iky at 6 and maybe some potential but likely no one not easily replaced and we threw away a lot of picks on pretty crappy players. When people throw out great GM, there’s really no substance there. Getting a good starter with top 6-8 picks should be a given. Bryce Young better be a stud and as a fan I want nothing less because if he’s mediocre, Fitterer will have been a disaster. I don’t want Fitterer to be a disaster even if I don’t think he’s been that good yet. If he’s a disaster that means us fans will have to live through a decade of poo. We are already 5 years into poo.

Damn, Shaq went to the KB off-season satellite campus at Bojangles. Looks like he ate Luvu.

Jets basically got Rodgers for a 2nd since they are only swapping 13 for 15. Not bad for them unless he falls off a cliff. GB is a nothing burger now. Unless Love proves a lot of people wrong, they’ll be a middling team that no one outside of Wisconsin cares about. They literally had a HOF QB at the helm from 1992-2022. No HOF QB and they’re just a small market team with a rich history.
-
I didn’t prove anything. You tried to say the Packers would take Lance and some 49er picks, which is a terrible take since their first pick is 99 and if the Packers want a WR for Love, pick 42 or 43 would be way better than Lance and 99. I have no idea if the trade will fall apart but I think the Jets are smart to not trade 13 since they are helping GB get away from that contract.
-
That makes no sense. Trey Lance has very little value so the Packers won’t take anything but the Jets 1st but they’ll take Lance and some picks starting at 99? 99 is SF’s first pick this year. The Jets have 42 and 43 this year as well. I see no way SF can put enough lipstick on Lance with picks that start at 99 to make it more attractive than 42 and/or 43 and other picks. The Jets just don’t want to give up 13.

Let’s get the record straight on S2
WhoKnows replied to TheMostInterestingMan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get what the S2 is testing, but I’ll add something on QBs that I don’t think gets much discussion as an actual skill. Accuracy. Young is accurate and did well on the S2. Richardson supposedly did well on the S2 as well but isn’t accurate. All the talk about Richardson having the highest ceiling bothers me because arm strength and running ability and even S2 field vision will not make up for not throwing the ball where it needs to be. Darnold had some egregiously bad decisions and Richardson has a lot of bad throws. Scoring well on the S2 can help a QB (like Purdy) find that wide open guy but as we saw in the playoffs Purdy found the right guy at times but just didn’t hit them. He couldn’t always work around a situation where the opponent was a solid playoff team that didn’t let Kittle or others run wide the fug open. I’m excited by Young because he was accurate and placed the ball well while watching him play. Add in the S2 high score makes me think he’ll see the field well, find the open guys and also hit them to get good results. -
I’m hopeful again because the last 5 years have sucked. Late 2018, you could tell Cam’s arm was shot and so could everyone else and that started the long run of losing. We haven’t had a QB since then that was close to a legit playoff QB. A QB we take at #1 sure as poo should be a legit playoff QB. Who knows if they will but it’s nice to feel like it’s possible.
-
Now imagine we beat the Bucs to actually make it to the playoffs. That kick didn’t keep us from the playoffs. The shitty job in the secondary, Wilks’ bread and butter, against Evans kept us out of the playoffs.

Panthers Falcons rivalry potentially get a added spark
WhoKnows replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Seriously? Not continuing to build around Ridder = visiting with 1st round QBs like Stroud. How is that twisting poo when they are the same thing? -

WhoKnows replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
May be true but doesn’t make them idiots for visiting with Stroud in case he drops to them. If Houston doesn’t go QB, Atlanta will likely have to make a call on one of the top 4, not just Hooker. Hooker will not go top 10. -

Disagree completely. Rudder was a 3rd rounder. If a much more talented QB is an available, you take that QB and don’t look back. We still have Corral. Are we stupid for taking a QB? -
You hit the nail on head of why I wanted the Burns trade so bad, besides having an inkling that the Rams could be imploding. Our rookie QB is far more valuable to our future than Burns, period. The thought of having the ability to trade up and still have 3 1sts and 4 2nds in 3 drafts to surround a rookie with Olsen, a top OL and Chase and Higgins? Thanks Brian, love ya, but we’ll use your cap space and all our other picks to improve the D while creating a wall and cache of weapons.
-
Ramsey was had for pick 77.
-
Was never about him. Of course I’d want him on the team but for pick 36 and 2 more 1sts plus all that cap space for FAs, I’m building around my 1st overall QB not an expensive edge rusher. The Rams sure aren’t acting like they believe in their near term after dumping Ramsey for peanuts and Robinson/not trying to keep OBJ. I almost wonder if McVeigh comes back if we owned their 36, next year’s 1st and 2025 1st. Hard to rebuild an aging team with a QB having a bum elbow when you have no 1sts until 2026 and no 2nds until 2024.

It’s funny how Lawrence got skewered for a similar rookie season to Manning with far worse coaching/team. Used to be fairly common for a rookie to struggle especially starting on a not so great team. I wouldn’t be worried about a “bad” year, it’s likely to happen.
