Funny because my son asked me if he was playing against the Lions and I said he might be sitting. We watched the first few drives and then we saw a graphic or an announcer said that Jones was playing or started and the first thing I thought of was damn he certainly isn’t making an impact if I thought he was sitting.
-
Damn Jordan first and now Kobe. Truly an end of an era.

It was actually 3 (two 1sts and pick 36 this year) and another $28-30M a year for say a couple of $15M a year FAs, so potentially 5 solid players. With the Rams seemingly in rebuild mode, those picks may have been pretty high. Heck, I said it before that if the Rams had to pay Burns and didn’t have those 3 picks that McVay and maybe even Donald may have stepped away. That was a last ditch gasp by them to make the playoffs in Stafford’s window. That was a big reason I was for the deal thinking that if McVay leaves there could have been more dominoes to fall potentially making those firsts top 5 type picks. I’m a fan of Burns but I’d take those 3 picks and the money for two top FAs every time. Build around Young as the primary objective. It’s water under the bridge anyway so let’s get a deal done already so his price doesn’t keep moving up.

Lol, you literally can’t be wrong. Your argument was Rhule likes athletes and Reich likes production. That’s almost word for word in your first post and you compared Young to Corral. Sorry man, trying to compare a 3rd round QB to the first overall pick is dumb. It just is, especially since Corral isn’t Anthony Richardson. Corral had 70 yards less than Young and those two had almost triple AR’s production. Saying Rhule would have taken AR is a potentially valid argument but Rhule didn’t trade up for Malik Willis, did he? Love your response that I didn’t understand your argument. You already moved your goalposts and are still wrong. Mingo and Johnson are very much athlete and not proven college producers. Mingo has not shown great route running, just a flash of athletic potential to get YAC. I don’t even know if I’ve seen him make a play yet but when he was picked he sure wasn’t discussed in here as if he was a proven college player. He was discussed as being athletic and having potential. I’m sure you’ll reply because you truly can’t be wrong but I’m done with this argument. If you can’t see your mistakes here, you never will.

First, comparing a 3rd round pick to the 1st overall is nonsense. If that’s driving your argument then it’s very weak. Also, Corral had 8287 career passing yards to Young’s 8356. Production wise they were closer than draft pick wise. Everyone knows Young was a better college QB. It’s not debatable but you are insinuating Rhule would have passed on Young for Corral because he values athleticism more than Reich and that’s a terrible argument. I really hate when it looks like I’m defending Rhule because the other argument’s facts are bad. Second, it’s OK to say you were wrong. No matter how you are trying to spin athleticism into ability or skill, Mingo and Johnson are absolutely not in the college All American bucket. They are in the athletic/potential bucket not the proven college player bucket. Saying Johnson isn’t raw and already knows what to do as a pro is wrong and look at Mingo not running through a great pass by Young that caused an incompletion. What’s the one thing Mingo did that drew raves? Take a short pass and bounce off a defender and get extra yards. That’s not route running, that’s athletic potential to create those YAC. Sorry again but our day 2 picks under Reich were absolutely about athleticism and potential just like what you said Rhule did that was always wrong.

I have no clue what this post means. I’m not aware of anyone wearing 89 aside from the retired guy and 80 plays offense so not sure the lack of defense makes sense. I’m just generally confused here.
-
Exactly. The post above mentions the differences between the QBs drafted as if the #1 overall pick being compared to a 3rd round QB makes any sense regardless of their traits. Also, we traded up for a guy who played all over and had 1 year as a full time DE and we picked Mingo. Both of them are clearly more athletic than college production guys. The thesis that Reich is wants college production falls apart pretty quickly in our day 2 picks. Rhule is a boogeyman to some and some people go through hoops to act like the current regime is the opposite. I’m very glad Rhule’s gone but I’m not going to act like we haven’t see the same tendencies already without him. Hopefully, we do better because it hasn’t been fun to watch this show since the second half of 2018.

I doubt he gets replaced by a guy who has only played LT. Last year he was the weak spot of the 5 and now he’s going to take over for Moton at a spot he’s never played? I do agree that he’s likely restructured.
-
He’ll be extended to reduce the cap hit.

Never liked that clown. Still think it was ridiculous that he was a freshman in 2017 and still playing in 2022. That 6th year for Covid and redshirting gets ridiculous. There are at least 2 6th year QBs on for teams with serious chances at the CFPs. Those two were freshman with Lawrence and Fields who are now in year 3 of the NFL. I don’t know how it’s possible but Hartman from ND (if he stays healthy) will have had 5 years with 9+ starts. It’ll be nice when that poo is over.
-
Counter points that also have to be considered. 1. It’s preseason as has been said millions of times. Look at Bozeman. When he played against the Giants and a good DT, he got handled. 2. BC is minimized if he’s on the bench and he’s a better starter. 3. That’s a huge jump to assume BC is ready to takeover RT and not make it a big drop off from Moton. I don’t believe BC played RT in college and he hasn’t played RT for us.
-
I know about LG and I never said I didn’t want Corbett on the right. I’m saying that the coaches may easily decide to put Zavala on the bench when Corbett comes back. Not sure I would trust Iky to help Zavala with adjustments when Iky has been the worst starter in preseason in terms of making mental mistakes. I don’t think I’d trust a left side of Iky and Zavala yet until we see him prove himself well at RG before Corbett and also when we see Iky not making mistakes. Zavala missed a good portion of preseason as well.
-
Agreed. College chemistry is nice but Zavalabis a rookie who hasn’t gotten a lot of reps due to a preseason injury and Iky’s looked a lot like a rookie so far in the preseason games. Pairing them could make for a couple disastrous plays so I’d think the coaches might keep BC their until they know Zavala is ready when Corbett is back.
-
Not sure if he can add that much weight but DT is likely not a fit but if he could put on the weight a 3-4 DE could be possible. Then again he might just not be good. He’s not a small end which is why he’s decent against the run on the outside but he just doesn’t have the pass rush ability.
-
Too soon to tell. With preseason you never know of a guy is going against a starter or backup (unless you watch every play for that one spot). Corbett hasn’t played at all so I’d think he’s a few weeks out at a minimum. Zavala will be RG (likely) so when the real games start they’ll have a better idea if he’s playing so well that either Corbett slides into LG, which I don’t know if he’s played much) or Corbett slides into RG and BC stays left. One thing to remember is that with Iky’s play being pretty spotty, the coaches may not want to throw a rookie next to Iky because that’s a recipe for a missed assignment huge hit on Young.

They really don’t. I’d bet the Clemson guys fail at the same rate as every other school. I mean for every Ferrell you’ve got a Lawrence (both of them) and for every Lawson you’ve got a Jarrett. Terrell’s been good and Higgins, etc. What I think you’ll find is that there are good GMs/teams like the Steelers and Ravens where their guys just seem to fit and do well and then there are teams like the Raiders who draft Jamarcus Russell and Ferrell. Doesn’t mean LSU or Clemson players don’t hit. Don’t be surprised to see Simmons play a lot better. The Cardinals coaches the past few years aren’t exactly the cream of the crop. I mean they can’t even get their #1 pick QB to study film.
-
I thought the last two years he’d been decent. He’s had 200+ tackles the past two years and 5.5 sacks/3 INTs/14 PDs. He’s not a game changer but seems more like Arizona might be dumping him so they don’t have to worry about his next contract/5th year option. That team is a mess. Giants likely got a good one year rental and can decide after the year if they want to keep him.
-
That draft still boggles my mind. My whole tank 2020 was based on the premise that our talent level (before we spent FA $$$$$s for 5 wins) and Will Grier gets us a top 2 which is Lawrence at best or Fields at worst. It’s still amazing that Wilson and Lance jumped up that far based pretty much solely on some workout throws. It sure wasn’t their college careers. You couldn’t ask for more of a canyon between what Lawrence and Fields did, especially against defenses filled with NFL talent, and what Wilson and Lance did. This year’s draft will be an interesting case study as well in a couple years. Hopefully, we did well.
-
I still don’t think we would have taken Lance. Rhule wasn’t going to hitch his wagon to a raw rookie. I’m sorry, but I don’t remember any Lance (or even Wilson) interest that was founded in anything besides speculation like the next year when we were tied to every single QB. We had no QB so there were articles about every potential QB pick like Willis and Pickett as well. I do remember discussion about how we weren’t really interested in any of the QBs after Lawrence and making the Darnold trade pre-draft for 3 picks supports those rumors. Also, SF was rumored to be interested in Darnold as well until they made the trade. We were also already rumored to be interested in Darnold very early as well. We’ll just have to agree to disagree but we didn’t even give a chance for any QB to drop with the Darnold trade.
-
We passed on Fields at 8, we weren’t taking Lance at 3. We traded for Darnold before that draft for a 2nd, 4th and 6th. We would have had those picks although considering our trading pick prowess we likely wouldn’t have gotten as much as Miami did.
-
And had we lost the Redskins game where we won because of Haskins (released after that game) and them dropping a punt for a TD, those picks were ours. SMH to all the it’s not worth it to tank for picks when you are already done. Always seems like we are one pick away from a Herbert or a fleecing of SF.
-
You got it correct, the measure of preseason success isn’t wins and losses or score. The measure of success is players executing the plays called and winning their match ups. That said, as mentioned above, there are a ton of people saying it doesn’t matter at all and that lack of effort is not a problem. Missing assignments and getting fooled by stunts is not to be expected. That’s why some of us feel a bit more concerned than we were hoped
-
We actually don’t have a ton of cap space. You can always push more down the road, but we only have about $29M of cap space right now and that’s without Burns, Houston, Chark and Chinn. We also only have 43 under contract for next year and several of those are likely PS guys like Bumper, Peoples and more. So, in all, we can create more space but it’ll be like this year where we aren’t making a splash FA signing, just bargain level shopping.

Young might have his cleats on still or that guy was 5’9” in high school and shrunk a bit. Young was 5’10” and an 1/8 at the combine. He’s not 6’. We already know that.
