50%? How about almost 100%? Iky was picked 6th overall. Sewell went 7th the year before. A tackle taken 6th should be a stud. We had 9 complete wastes, 2 backup level players and one maybe average starter and that was with pick 1, pick 6 and pick 1 in 2024. That’s likely the two worst drafts any GM has ever had back to back. You can point to some Hurney drafts but at least he still had Cam or Luke at the tops of terrible drafts. Even Matt Millen followed up Charles Rogers with Calvin Johnson. Fitt didn’t even get a really good player even with top or the draft picks.

Morgan played with Delhomme too and Jake couldn’t be much more different from Vick. Not sure what either of them would mean since Young sure wasn’t fast or as great at running as Vick and certainly didn’t have his arm. If Vick had any bearing, Morgan would have backed Tepper to take Fields and told Fitterer before he was officially hired a week after that draft. Heck, he could have traded for Fields from the Bears instead of trading for Young.
-
That’s interesting because he was one of the few people that we didn’t hear wanted Stroud. Reich and McCown we heard rumors about wanting Stroud, not Morgan. Pretty sure the articles pointed to Morgan being Fitt’s right hand man. I’m sure everyone wanted Stroud now but that’s not what we heard. Also, I don’t recall Morgan even being involved on the QB side. It’s not like he has the background to pick a proper QB anyway.
-
Not really. He was against the Burns to Rams trade. There have been articles by Panthers writers saying he was in lock step with Fitterer on most decisions. I think Tepper wanted a new face that he still knew well.
-
Just to temper this trade a bit, don’t forget how badly we missed on Mingo. If you look at the WRs taken after Mingo it’s depressing. There are 9 WRs taken after Mingo that have more yardage than he does including Nacua, Rashee Rice, Reed/Wicks in GB, Downs and Dell. There’s also some WRs that having gotten nearly the snap counts but are starting to come on like Tillman in Cleveland. SMH, some of those guys like Dell and Downs the draft forum was yelling to get instead.

Nice. Just happy to get something to help with this rebuild. The Diontae trade probably didn’t even change who we will pick in the late 5 (probably would be there early 6th).

When you realize that Mrs. Rhule had the input on our best draft pick value of 2021-2023, it’s scary how bad that guy really was.

I still don’t think he’s the answer but this was the first time in a while that my son and I enjoyed watching the game. Amazingly, I also thought that had we lost, I wouldn’t have blamed Young at all. He should have had another TD that Moore when Moore dropped a perfect ball and XL letting the CB steal the ball for an interception is inexcusable. I’d let him start again because I thought he actually played well and the Giants are on NO’s level. I still don’t think Young can get this team to a playoff level but sucky teams without CBs, he looked decent. Still need a replacement at QB.

C Mays / LT Christensen LT vs C Christensen / LT Ekwonu

Saints have been terrible since week 2 and they were missing both top CBs. Much easier to protect when their pass rush is meh and the WRs can get open easily. -
Honestly, this is a bad take. I think if we didn’t pay most of the rest of his salary you might have a point but we barely got any value and still took the cap hit. If you are getting that little you hold on and go for a comp pick. At least then you are getting a 5th rounder without giving up a high 6th for it. We took the salary hit just to move up a few picks. Again, the player we draft at the Ravens 5th is likely available at our early 6th. Even if DJ is a problem you just keep him inactive and wait and see if you get a better offer. I mean with Diggs out, I can’t fathom you couldn’t have gotten a 5th from Houston or at least swap picks and they cover the full salary.

He doesn’t have the physical tools. He's certainly not fast enough to be a Fields or Lamar or Cam or Daniels where his running is a legit weapon. He’s also saddled with an anemic arm. Baker and Sam had physical tools and in Baker’s case, had success for a year elsewhere. Darnold also had a period of success here as well. Bryce doesn’t have that fall back talent that someone else can improve with coaching.

Offensive Starters (Where are they found in the draft)
WhoKnows replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade but these %s aren’t surprising nor are the UDFAs. First, the %s align to the importance of the picks. QBs and Ts are generally drafted the highest. The rest of the positions are ones that tend to be taken later. Often the best C/Gs in the draft don’t get picked until round 2. UDFAs are just volume. Teams sign more UDFAs than they draft every year. When you are dealing with 20 something UDFAs every year and 5 guys selected in round 3 to 7, is it surprising that there will be some UDFA starters? I’m pretty sure that many of us draft guys have been saying for years that we should be erring on OL late in the draft but no one in Panthers GM chairs has listened for years until we realized we took a long snapper over a legit starting Guard. That next year we took another G in the 6th from the exact same school. That was one of those ahah moments where you realized Fitterer’s plan was just do what Seattle did and then just copy other team’s success when you’re on the hot seat. None of which worked. -
Top 3 going into this year? Wow. I’ll be honest that I haven’t watched much of him this year but I remember watching some of the big games last year and he wasn’t good at all. Against Michigan, Ohio St. and Ole Miss, his completion % was in the 40s all 3 games. Even against Rutgers and Illinois, his completion % was in the 40s.
-
Me too. Luckily, haven’t needed it for anyone else yet. Figured what the heck since Hubbard was looking decent. I’ll likely never start him as RB is my strength unless he looks like Hubbard on steroids.
-
You’re right. The article I read said a 5th. It was the first pick in the 6th so basically the same as the 5th we’ll get from Baltimore.
-
Listen Dan, we saw your willingness to trade Diontae for a box of crackers and we’d like to take. How about we do you a solid and take Horn off your hands for a conditional 7th as long as you pay for half of his 5th year option. Deal?
-
Yeah, I’m thinking we stopped due to the embarrassment of the Diontae for Donte and realizing our net result was a 7th for trading away a 6th and two starters. Probably think, we don’t need to look even worse than the terribleness we are.
-
And we were the only one that traded away 2 firsts, 2 seconds and DJ Moore to pick the biggest bust of them all and of course one of those picks was the #1 overall pick in a QB draft class that has looked very strong so far.
-
Again, we gave Pittsburgh a 5th and got back a 7th in the DJ for DJ swap. The 5th we got from Baltimore is cancelled by the 5th we gave Pittsburgh. So we really got a 7th for Diontae, Donte and a 6th.
-
That’s wrong. We have Pittsburgh a 5th and got back their 7th. The 5th we got back is cancelled by the 5th we gave Pittsburgh. So we traded away what you said but really only got back a 7th. Lol.
-
SMH, so much for the cap savings people were saying we’re getting. Also, considering what we traded away to Pittsburgh for Diontae, we basically traded away Donte, Diontae and our 6th and got back a 7th. Morgan is a genius! We even saved next to nothing in cap space. Nothing like the final tally being that we traded 2 decent players and a 6th and got back a 7th. SMH.
-
It’s a meaningless swap. The guy we’d get in the 6th is probably the same guy we’ll get late 5th. Also, on a day when Kirk (possible alternative to Diontae) goes out for the year and Diggs is also out for the year, that’s all we could get? I didn’t even realize Baltimore was interested in another WR but I’m sure Houston is.
-
They don’t but that’s basically equivalent to a late 6th round pick. Might as well just release him and not waste the 5 minutes bending over to the Ravens.
