Every single person who watched the first two weeks knows Young sucks. It’s been confirmed. Some of us thought it was obvious last year but we traded away a chance to dump Young this offseason so unlike Josh Rosen, he got a second year. I think this is even worse than what the Jets felt. They felt like his mistakes were derailing a good team. If Wilson was on the Panthers last year instead, we probably wouldn’t be benching him right now. Wilson has the arm that Young dreams about. We do not have a playoff caliber team with Aaron Rodgers so we’d probably be more patient with Wilson to see if he could improve. Young has no physical ability to hope he can get better.
-
Of course he’s having regular meetings. We literally just benched our 2023 #1 overall pick. Canales was hired for the exact same reasons that we all wanted to see happen in 2024. Figure out if Young could ever be the guy. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to think they likely saw the same poo all the announcers and fans saw. I agree that is 99.999% likely that Canales walked into Tepper’s office this morning and said, yep Tep, it’s as bad as we thought last week. The kid ain’t it and we need to move on and decide what we’ve got on this team and Dan’s gotta jump on the scouts and figure out the next QB.
-
Fitterer drafted Young and according to him and Reich they were all on board. Everything else you wrote is your assumptions on what you think happened.
-
Yep. I don’t know why people cling to the thought that Tepper will die on the Young hill and is forcing him on every coach. I’m pretty sure that a) Tepper has been terrible at deciding GMs and coaches and b) just wants to win. After weeks 1 and 2 and a full offseason of bulking up that the entire front office knows Young is not the guy. Maybe he could improve decision making but that would take too long or never happen and his physical limitations mean that even if he ever got to a great mental level, he still can’t make SB winning throws.
-
How about we just quit with the Tepper is calling plays and deciding every draft pick stuff? Now Canales is a hero because he put Tepper in his place? Occam’s razor would be wisely used here. Tepper didn’t force Young on Canales. Canales got hired to improve the team from last year’s disaster and determine if Young was the guy. Tepper and Canales met last week after the disaster and probably met this morning after another disaster and Canales confirmed to Tepper that Young is not our future. Now, I assume that Canales will be focusing on seeing what we have outside QB and Morgan, hopefully, is spending 90% of his time with scouts focusing on the next two draft classes of QBs.

Bryce Young faced the least pressure of any quarterback this week
WhoKnows replied to TN05's topic in Carolina Panthers
He still deserved it. Remember all the worries in preseason as he was just getting beat on the regular one on one? Heck, the huddle called the OL concern last preseason. They looked terrible and Iky looked the worst. The guard play got worse progressively as more people got hurt but last year it was the OL getting beat badly plus Young not handling the pressure thus creating more sacks. This year the OL is improved and healthy and Young looks worse. -

Dude, Ily was legit awful last year. Just like the D can’t just blame Young for letting up 70+ points this year, Iky got beat so badly at times that even if Young caused some sacks, the pressure was still there due to Iky. The OL looks much better this year. Last year the OL was bad and Young was bad. Now it’s mainly Young. -
Don’t you remember the married couple we’ll turn over the cards at the same time before and after the draft process? I do agree that I think Reich would have preferred a vet but I could see him wanting the supposedly most pro ready QB in the draft. It’s still mind boggling to me that we chose Young and that he was a top 1 or 2 guy in the media. Given what we’ve seen and his being the only one to not workout or throw at the combine, it’s just still amazing that we got snowed so bad. Oh well.
-
I’ll bet, since we saw articles about how Fitterer and Reich were in lock step about Young, that Reich was OK with Young (if he couldn’t have a vet) due to all that super processor poo. His maturity and S3 scores. You are correct though that Reich didn’t fit our we are finally going with a rookie QB decision. Just like every move under Tepper, we fuged up again. Probably why so many people aren’t really expecting Canales or Morgan to be the correct answer. Based on the past 6 years, I can’t blame them.
-
Garbage QB play? He had Luck, Rivers and Wentz who averaged 30 TDs and 11 INTs in the 3 years they above .500. His worst years were Brissett and a washed Ryan. He definitely had solid QB play and to be honest, he never had an inexperienced/rookie QB to develop. He really wasn’t a match for a rookie QB based on his preferences and experience. Just like everyone else we’ve hired/not fired, we made a bad move. It is funny how people still like to make excuses for coaches and GMs who didn’t do well. Reich sucked and Indy was happy to move on from him. Good QB play from experienced vets is what carried him.

Announcer: “His little jump pass is knocked away”
WhoKnows replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Woo hoo, competitive in a few of the next 15 games. I’ll stop posting about it because I know Dalton isn’t going to make watching games any better this year for me. I just hope we don’t fug ourselves like we’ve done for years and made this team a lot worse for a couple more wins. Beating Atlanta one time won’t really solve the core problem and it’s going to be a shitty season to watch this year regardless of QB. -

Huh? Getting the top pick means we can select the correct one. Who said anything about determining the correct guy right now Honestly, watching Stroud play and Young play, it’s so fuging obvious who our pick should have been. It had to have been an idiot like Fitterer somehow convincing everyone that Young was Wilson and everyone ignored the clear physical issues. -

I agree but not getting the correct QB in the draft because we win too many games will be way worse for the young guys entire career. -
Tepper is the boogeyman. All the predraft talk was Thomas Moore espousing the point guard stuff two months before the Tepper regurgitation and the happy couple Reich and Fitterer saying they were in lock step before and after the draft prep. Also, Fitterer was on record that he preferred Young the year before we drafted him so he had blinders on. I’m sure Tepper agreed but I think since Reich and Fitterer are gone that he’s the easy guy to blame. Like you, I hope everyone has learned. I didn’t like the Morgan hire because he was too close to Fitterer and we heard he agreed with so much like not trading Burns.
-
I get what you guys are saying as well but I remember that one extra win got us Brown instead of Herbert, one extra win got us Horn instead of two firsts (additional to the pick we’d go down to) and a 3rd from SF to trade up to 3rd and that going 6-6 with Wills meant we lost CMC, Moore and a high 2024 1st/2025 2nd to get Young.

Dave Canales announces next week's starting QB
WhoKnows replied to TN05's topic in Carolina Panthers
Again, see my post above. We suck so bad that trying to win this year maybe gets us 2-3 wins instead of 0-1. That doesn’t help us at all. Also, if we have the dumbest people, it won’t matter anyway. We have to hope Fitterer was the main issue (he absolutely was #1 IMHO) and even Morgan or another GM in 2025 can get us the CJ Stroud of next year. I’d rather give them the best ammo they could have. -

You may not be down but are you really going to enjoy Dalton going 3-12 and the Giants slipping in front of us at pick 1? Also, getting the first pick was not the worst thing. When we got Cam, it was great. The worst thing was Fitterer taking the wrong QB. I’m watching CJ Stroud and my god, the difference in picks is night and day. Houston will be a playoff contender for years. Again, the worst thing was not the first pick. It was how badly we screwed it up and the fact that we didn’t let Rhule get us there by himself without a trade up. -

Given our history, pretty sure it will be the wrong one. -

I posted this in another thread, but we’ve cost ourselves so much in draft picks with awesome 5 and 7 win seasons. We took Brown because we beat the Commanders and missed out on Herbert (I’m not sure he’s the answer, but with CMC and Moore, who knows). Another win a year later got us Horn instead of pick 3, which SF gave multiple firsts and other picks to Miami. Wilks going 6-6 after Rhule was fired got us pick 9 instead of a top 3 pick. We traded CMC (his 2nd was part of the deal), Moore and two first to get to 1 and took Young. People in here often talk about the draft as if slot never matters and we should never root for a loss even if we’re already eliminated from the playoffs or know we suck even if the stupid GM thinks we’re 1 QB away. We are a walking billboard the past few years of why that one extra win or not trying to tank screws up your talent level and costs you a bunch of good picks. That’s why going 3-14 with Dalton doesn’t excite me. We need great drafts to get out of this rut so having to trade up for QBs and having worse slots is bad. In case people don’t get it, our past 6 years should be a Harvard Business School Case Study of how to screw up a franchise for a decade or more. -
Ok, so we go 3-14 and lose out to the Giants for the number 1 pick. They choose the CJ Stroud of 2025 and we get the Bryce Young of 2025 because we got 3 wins and 12 losses with Dalton. I’m hoping for an actual franchise level QB. That’s it. It amazes me that people want a few wins (maybe) over our future. Yes, I know we may still have poo at GM but at some point we have to hope they don’t fitter the pick up again. I’ve seem a lot of love of Wilks in here lately and all he really did was make us lose Moore and CMC while picking Young first. Heck, we might have accidentally had to take Stroud if we had pick 2 or 3 instead of 9. At some point we need to get the next QB and if Dalton can’t help us get there, he can ride the bench. I’d rather us pickup the best PS QB and try them out.

At this point. I don’t care. I just want the top pick and I want is to be the team that picks the best QB. -

Very true, but it took Dalton 8 years to get those 33 wins. The answer is absolutely not on the team. -
And we lost that game too. Dalton was just better in fantasy/garbage time.
-
It’s funny that Dalton is 33-52-1 since 2015 on much better teams than this poop show and people think we are going to win games. The only thing we have to look forward to is the 2025 draft. Saints and Tampa are 4-0, we’re already out of the division.
