Who is Dave Canales? 9 part series
Bear Hands replied to blueandblackattack's topic in Carolina Panthers
Looks like each video breaks down 1 media/practice/interview per. Props to the guy for trying to sift through this stuff and see what type of coach he is. But they're not long vids. Checked out parts 2 & 3. they're both around 3-4 minutes each - it's of him at practice. He definitely reminds me of a McVay-type in this respect. He runs with the play while amping and critiquing guys, then good side banter. Seems thoughtful and energetic. It's going to be different but I think in a good way for the guys who've been used to Ron, Rhule, & Frank. Lightyears different. -
This is cool. On top of Jake, Luke and Gross being part of the gameday crews, this type of stuff is gold. A bit fluffy, but having all these guys stay around and build a community of ex-players is good to see. Helps really build a long lasting culture. See...they can do fun things haha.

Saw this on the WFT reddit -- "We should take a gap year" "All in on this. Let's just take a year off, rebrand, new stadium, and wait for the next coaching cycle. Would be a year of no anxiety for us lmao."

Why carolina can not* afford to lose Burns
Bear Hands replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
At the end of the day, pass rushers are one of the most valued assets in the league after QB. That being said, I can't imagine he wants to be here, reports aside. If he really did, something would have been worked out last July when we gave him the initial offer to jumpstart talks. There's plenty of teams willing to pay for his services. 3 paths here (correct me if you think I'm wrong): The Peppers: He doesn't sign a deal, we don't tag him, he signs elsewhere, we receive comps (hopefully, eventually) The Trade: He doesn't sign a deal, we tag him, we trade him at some point The Unlikely: He signs/stays on with a new contract I feel like we just have to do what we can to get something in return. It will probably end up a 2nd/4th type combo. -
Any idea of what Young is doing in the offseason to improve?
Bear Hands replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
First off-He simply needs to unrattle himself. Get comfortable in the mud. If you're going to play non-traditional back there when you drop, then get used to the discomfort in an NFL muddy pocket. Most importantly- He needs to get disciplined in the pocket. And he can figure that out however he wants to. I've accepted he has his own dropback, the Jim Furyk-swing of dropbacks. I just don't see him changing to have a more by-the-book technique. Whatever he does though, his drops need to be in sync with the playbook and he needs to consistently plant and get it properly timed with routes. He becomes his best self out of structure, on the move. But he still needs to be a better version of himself in the pocket. To that point--the timing being off and the velocity lost on throws are the two biggest issues that come from his pocket problems. It's a rookie curve you'll see from time to time, they aren't adding the layer of nuance to match their drop to the timing of their primary. So I hope he figures that out and doesn't look like a mini-Josh Rosen again. At least give us rookie Tua. People compare them, but rookie Tua had a 1.0 yard better YPA, 64% completions, 47.7% success rate, adjusted 17 game stats would've been 3,000+ yards, 18 pass TDs, 8 INTs. Bryce just had a 59%, 36.5% success rate..we know the rest. His YPA can only go up as it was top-3 lowest all time for a season long starting QB. In short-I would love for him to show enough where we don't have this "It's all the OL/It's all the WRs" banter because it all looks so bad. Time to step this sh*t up. -

Did the panthers lose on the CMC trade?
Bear Hands replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
Regardless of CMC being here or not... We didn't get ideal value and we used the picks gained terribly. We lost. -
Josh Reynolds…

By all accounts we tried for 2 seasons lol

Bad defensive play calling on 3rd. Yikes.
-
Lots of talent playing this weekend that we could have had (or kept) if Tepper didn't keep tripping over his own microdick all the time.
-
Wilks has his hands full

If Macdonald and Johnson end up the last two vacancies filled (which looks more likely with what's getting put out there), then it makes sense why we went ahead with Canales. Our other two primary targets have kind of been set w/SEA and WAS.

Kurt Warner breaks down Bucs offense vs Lions
Bear Hands replied to PanthersGTI's topic in Carolina Panthers
Kurt is a great watch. He has no flash, not the best camera work/game grabs, or a snazzy channel name, but it's some of the best ex-player analysis you'll find IMO. The fake screen pistol seam pass was a really nifty play. -
Yeah every move he makes is an immense overcorrection from the previous failure. Although I'm sure Rhule being here conditioned him to make every veteran/older coach sound amazing.

David, hi, some questions about this hire
Bear Hands replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Personally, I can be much more on the pessimistic side when it comes to the more life-effecting, tangible stuff, but when it comes to sports and stuff like that, I mean, it really has no overarching effects on me to be a bit excited about hires, signings, etc. -

Yeah, it's actually quite an interesting read. Lot's of variables and relevance to what this fanbase is going through haha -

It was more as a joke but for real, there's no problem in being a bit optimistic. Being a realistic optimist is a thing and totally healthy and has shown to be beneficial. No doubt this could turn out badly and we should understand that and it be part of our expectations. I'd classify writing an open sassy letter on an internet forum to an NFL owner a bit more on the clinically defined side of things compared to a fan of a team saying, "I don't know, I'll be cautiously optimistic" -

It's a coaching hire for a football team man...jeez https://ir.vanderbilt.edu/bitstream/handle/1803/7556/Martinez_thesis_the effects of realistic and unrealistic optimism on coping and performance.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y -
I'll get specific. Clean it out, draft 2 minimum, new FA haul. First, land a prospect with refined route running coming in for once. Adonai Mitchell is my fave for us this year. I've been a big Troy Franklin fan, but he's more of a downfield burner from that Oregon offense and we need someone who can get open quick, has good RR skills, and you can move around. And then you go and grab another like McMillan out of Wash mid rounds. Or maybe go for the YAC type with that Corley kid. Pittman is my favorite target from a FA standpoint. We'll have the money. Need a bigger body hands-catcher. That's Pittman (and more). Noah Brown could be interesting. He had some nice moments this year. I just hope we stay away from Gabe Davis.

J person, Athletic. Canales has one job Fix Young
Bear Hands replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Canales has potential--I like that he basically had a long time mentor in Carroll who brought him with to the NFL, was in a sound organization, with a SB win. However, given the state of our roster, expectations should be floor 4-5 wins. This is incremental. This next season is a "Is Bryce it" year while also having a foundational build. Key parts need to be attained I.E. offensive playmaker, a new pass rusher, and a new defensive centerpiece (if Shaq and Luvu are gone)
