  1. Looks like he'll be a Panther in 2022. I still think he's being penciled in as starting C for the time being.
  2. Seems like a lawyer doing their job (assuming this is from the defense). Casting doubt on the motives of the whole by highlighting a few. Overall, there's probably a mix of $$$ chasers and actual victims, but they get lumped in together.
  3. I know y'all like to poo on Rhule but he's not where he is without knowing a LOT of football.
  4. I honestly don't see the Panthers getting Watson at this point. I feel like if all 3 parties wanted it to happen it would have happened by now. (For the record, I would like to see him traded to the team) I suspect we have had an offer (or at least the general framework for one) for quite a while but nothing has happened. That means either the Texans, Watson, or both are dragging their feet for a reason; best case for the Panthers is it's the Texans waiting for criminal charges to be dropped to drive up prices. I see only a few logical outcomes from the grand jury decision: Criminal charges are pursued meaning DWs chances of jail time increase dramatically and he is untradeable. He likely goes on the exempt list at this point. Criminal charges are NOT pursued meaning several other teams jump into the fold. IF it's the Texans dragging their feet (and not DW) we have a chance as I doubt we get outbid. I doubt this is the case as the Texans are risking getting nothing if criminal charges are pursued. IF it's DW dragging his feet b/c he prefers other destinations then we are just the "other" offer used to bid up the actual winner of DW's services.
  5. Based on that, the Steelers should have been an 11-12 win team ... hope the Ben retirement tour was worth it.
  6. This is more akin to Tampa Bay than the Rams IMO.
  7. OTC has the breakdown of the Ian Thomas contract: https://overthecap.com/player/ian-thomas/6986/ In short, Ian is counting ~$3.1M vs the cap this season and his last season is not likely to be earned as it's mostly (non-guaranteed) salary. To me, this contract reads like a 2-year $11.5 million dollar deal with a team option for a 3rd year. For the curious he can be cut before the start of the league year in 2023 for a small cap savings (~1.4M). With the context that 3 TEs (Njoku, Gesicki, Shultz) have been franchised tagged, this deal may end up looking reasonable. IMO the biggest benefit is we didn't sign a FA TE to a similar contract and possibly cancel out a comp pick.
  8. 1 then 6, then 5 for me. 1) Watson solves the QB problem in the long term. 2 & 5) Jimmy G on this team isn't going to play much better than several of the FA options. I'd rather just pay a FA for similar production 3 & 4) None of the Rookies should go top 10 to this team. Willis (highest ceiling) isn't going to be ready in time and Darnold also has a big arm and suspect decision making if that's what we are looking for. Our top pick needs to make an impact this season. If the team likes Pickett that much why not just take Mac Jones last year? I feel like taking Pickett at 6 is doing something for the sake of doing something. I'm guessing whoever takes him will be debating if he's worth the 5th year option in a few years (just like the Browns and Giants are doing right now). I'm warming up to the idea of Ridder (or Corral) in the late 1st after a trade down. I don't think Pickett or Willis fall that far. 5 & 6) I'm not sure a stud LT falls to 6 after seeing some recent mocks and I'm not excited about taking the hold machine out of Northern Iowa (Penning) or the C (Linderbaum) at 6. I think there is really good depth in this draft and would like to have picks to work with.
  9. Thomas is likely getting paid closer to $3-4M a year. His guaranteed amount was reported to be $8M (or $2.7M on average over 3 years).
  10. I'm guessing the plan was to trade a 6th round pick for a future 3rd round (comp) pick.
  11. You joke, but extending Darnold is actually a reasonable way to create a decent chunk of cap space.
  12. Steelers just secured multiple future 3rd round picks. They also got a heck of a good coach.
  13. Andy Dalton and possibly Carson Wentz (sounds like he's getting axed) should be on this list.
  14. Haven't thought about this angle. It does make some sense. There is a bit of a gamble though since we are trading away a known quantity in Burns for an unknown at #6; not all 1st rounders pan out.
  15. Mike Remmers was also in the Super Bowl.
  16. I doubt we see many cuts. Unless the team NEEDs the cap space they are better off keeping the players. In short, the "cap savings" will likely turn into a net loss for the team when you factor in what a suitable replacement player would cost.
  17. The initial gameplan seemed fine for the most part. It was the lack of good adjustments after the other team adapted that seemed to derail things IMO. Offense was ranked 7th in points for the 1st Quarter while the Defense was ranked 2nd. I'm hoping the added experience improves the other 3 quarters. EDIT: Oh and excited for the ST hire.
  18. I don't want to see us trade for a QB unless the compensation is a day 3 pick. I'd rather sign a high floor FA (e.g. Dalton) or draft someone at #6.
  19. Squibbing doesn't guarantee any time runs off the clock. The receiving team can just kneel as soon as they touch it.
