It was a torn labrum. https://www.sfchronicle.com/sports/49ers/article/Good-news-for-Jimmy-Garoppolo-and-49ers-according-16975386.php

Thibs being available at 6 is the kind of luck the team would need to pull in a good trade-down offer.
-
He was guaranteed $10M. Everything else was dependent on him actually playing for the Panthers which wasn't happening. If he had been cut him he would have gotten $10M that season and not a dime more as no one was going to pay him more; the new team would have to exceed the $10M guarantee before he got new money. He actually got a pay raise in the trade to the Bronco's (I think he ended up with $11.5M).

Teddy didn't take less money. Money was just moved around so that the team on the hook was the Panthers.

Why the Panthers should take a QB (article)
Evil Hurney replied to Growl's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'll agree that if a team loves a QB they don't trade DOWN to get him. That said, what if you don't love any of the QBs but understand the value of the rookie contract? Kenny Pickett seems like a guy that is "good" on a rookie deal and "bad" when you have to pay him $40M a season; I think Mac Jones is in similar territory. In that scenario I think the team should feel comfortable trading back and taking a QB they like (but not love) while acquiring assets to build out the rest of the team. I also agree that it is unrealistic to assume the Panthers will be in position for the top 2 QBs next year. The Texans are setting up to get that #1 pick and the Falcons barring taking a QB this season will be right there with them. Then there are the teams like the Eagles that will set the price at moving up at 3 1st-round picks. -
I'd suspect we'd find a way to bring Sam back on a deal that has lots of "outs". Something like the Jimmy G deal where it's really year-to-year. Worst case we'd just tag him as others have said. That puts his cap hit in the $25M-$30M range for 1 season.

Just finished watching. Love how he had to stop himself from cursing on live stream. At the end the mic catches him asking/saying "You can edit that sh!t"

Rhule talked to some media at the draft. I don't think it was an official presser though. I believe this is the first time we've had a McAdoo presser since he was hired.

"What are we doing in the draft" 2022 edition.
Evil Hurney replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
@VergeThanks for the writeup. I find it interesting that Cross is in a different tier. I think our best hope to trade out of #6 for a decent haul is to have one of the EDGE guys fall (e.g. Thibodeaux or Walker). As mentioned, no one is swapping picks with us to get a QB or LT. -
No details on the deal, but I'm hoping it's a decent chunk as it affects comp picks.
-
I feel like this is being leaked by the Browns to get Seattle to show more urgency. That said, I'm fine trading a day 3 pick for Baker.

Next year’s QB crop is better. Let’s wait until then.
Evil Hurney replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I personally don't like the "QB in 23" plan since I don't think the Panthers will be positioned to get one. As mentioned in the OP, the team will have to secure a top 2 or top 3 pick otherwise we are looking at a replay of the 2021 draft where the team is picking the 3rd or 4th best option. I feel pretty confident that you can pencil the Texans in for Pick #1 (as does Vegas). Their plan is pretty obvious (to me at least). The Falcons aren't even fielding a real NFL team this year and will likely be in the conversation for a top pick as well. Finally we also have to out-suck the Lions who are likely eyeing a top pick (and a QB) in 2023. If we are outside the top 5 we then have to also compete with the Giants and Eagles who will likely have more draft capital. Vegas has the Panthers at 6 wins currently. I don't see this team going below our apparent floor of 5 wins. -
Apparently the Browns wanted this for Baker.

He will actually be able to throw before July/August. -
Wonder if the Pats had a similar deal in place for Robbie?
-
Next years 1 and 2 seem pretty safe IMO. There isn't anything in this draft or in the trade market worth dealing them for ... unless Lamar or Kyler become available. I'd wager that they take the top LT if ONLY one falls to #6. If multiple (or none) are there then you trade back with the team that A) gives you a good package of picks AND B) keeps you in rage of your next tier of 1st round OL/QB.

I prefer Starburst

Ya, I went back and re-watched. I think Bozeman is also LG and Elflein is C based upon the order they are discussed.
-
Mentions the "current" starting offensive line around the 19:00 minute mark. Christensen, Elflein, Bozeman, Corbett, Moton I found it interesting that Cam Erving wasn't considered "competition" for the LT spot. I suspect he is trade bait for a team that needs a guy closer to preseason.

Observation: Panthers want to Draft a QB but...
Evil Hurney replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
Texans are probably taking the top QB in 2023. They already have their QBs for this season and Lovie is their tank-mander. Lions likely don't see a QB worth taking at #2 and can take a flyer in the late 1st as they have pick #32 and pick #33 that they can package if someone they like falls. The Panther most likely take the top QB on their board at #6 with a fallback of taking an elite OT. The biggest risk is a team (such as Atlanta, Seattle, or New Orleans) trading in front of us if they really like someone they think we are gonna take. -
Johnny Hekker to Carolina per Schefter
Evil Hurney replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
Can he kick FGs? Or is backup kicker still Zylstra's job? -
Agreed. The trade compensation seems a bit weak based on all the talk leading up to it.
-
Depends on what you define as "winning" in this case.

So, that's all it took to get Watson....money? lot and lots of money? Feels like we should have done better if that was his criteria.
