AR and Stroud throwing in the same group shows how far AR still needs to go as a passer. AR isn't going #1.

Price to move into top 3 based on past trades.
Evil Hurney replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't see the team giving up 3 1st's to trade up to #1, so #3 is the highest they would go. A trade up to #3 can ONLY happen on draft day since we have to have the prospect fall to #3. If you move early then the Colts can just jump you. Cost to move to #3 is likely #9, 2024 1st, and #61. I personally would be willing to do that if either of the top 2 QBs are there at #3. If neither is there I'd just wait at #9 for Levis or AR. I think AR could fall into the late 1st (Tampa Bay at #19 and Seattle at #20) or even day 2 (similar to Willis last year). -
Interesting twist regarding Lamar Jackson...
Evil Hurney replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pretty smart move by the Ravens if true. Let Lamar shop his wares and see what he's really worth. If someone will pay Lamar's asking price then the Ravens get 2 1st rounds and a boatload of cap space. If not, they might actually get Lamar to agree to a long term deal. -
Would you trade 9 for Fields - straight up?
Evil Hurney replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
No, but I would consider trading a day 2 pick for him. The Bears would only trade Fields if they are taking a QB at 1. Once they do that Field's "value" tanks and any hope of getting a 1st should go out the window. The Bears would have to fleece someone before the draft like the Jets did with us. -
Has anyone looked at our Cap situation for 2023?
Evil Hurney replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are in a decent spot cap wise. Per Spotrac, here's where each NFCS team ranks for the next 3 years (assumes rollover): Big picture, the team can borrow from future years to pay current FA deals if needed. The Saints, Rams, Packers, and Browns are in bad spots as far as borrowing as they each have less than $100M of new money to spend over the next 3 seasons. Granted they can cut people to create some cap space, but as it currently stands they have a lot less flexibility. For context the Bears have the most with an estimated $500M of new money to spend over the next 3 seasons. The Panthers have around $280M to spend. -
How do you rank these QB’s that are 26 or younger
Evil Hurney replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
Joe Burrow (best QB in the game not named Mahommes) Jalen Hurts (hard to separate if it's him or the team, but he was composed and productive the whole post season) Trevor Lawrence (projecting, but showed that he can bring a team back from the brink) Josh Allen (looks good in the regular season, but seems to panic in crunch time) Lamar Jackson (don't think he is an elite passer and his rushing skills will only continue to degrade) Justin Herbert (probably good, hard to know if he's being held back by his coaching) Bryce Young (unknown commodity, draft grades suggest he'll be pretty good) C.J Stroud (unknown commodity, I'd probably only choose him over Tua on this list) Tua Tagovaiola (decent in an offense designed to make QBs look good, will be out of the league before he's 30) -
It's a bit hard since Corral would have another year of tape and development. He's likely still a day 2 pick as a prospect. I looked back at the past 2 classes and he'd probably be in the same tier as Richardson ... has some elite traits but needs development.

Which draft day trades would you be okay with?
Evil Hurney replied to Evil Hurney's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bears and Texans swapping 1st round picks would probably be best case scenario for the Panthers since it gives them a reasonable chance to jump the Colts and get one of the top 2 guys. -
Going to be painful to jump up to #1. I personally wouldn't do it. I also don't think the Bears will be willing to drop to #9.
-
All scenarios give the receiving team 200-300 points of surplus draft value (calculator) which is what teams that move down in the first round historically receive.

He's at least got the lawyers at his disposal to at least force an interpretation. Even with the cost of the lawyers this whole thing likely saves Tepper a few million.

Early part of the video has Brady reflecting on the season and then talks about the ankle. Towards the end of the video he praises coach Campen.

Why isn't this a poll?

I saw it last night. Pretty sure that's a parody account.

Doesn't seem like a good omen for those in the hire Wilks camp.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if Wilks, Moore, and Reich are the only finalists. Basically the best option out of the following groups: Young Offensive Mind group Shane Steichen (virtual) Ken Dorsey (in-person) Mike Kafka (virtual) Kellen Moore (in-person + 2nd interview) Experienced Offensive HC group Jim Caldwell (in-person) Frank Reich (in-person + 2nd interview) Sean Payton (in-person) Defensive HC group Steve Wilks (in-person + 2nd interview) Ejiro Evero (in-person)

Picks ahead of the Panthers 1) Chicago, BPA or trade out, Teams know Houston is taking a QB so if they like a guy they will jump Houston 2) Houston, Rookie QB 3) Arizona, BPA or trade out with a team wanting to jump Indy, they are locked into Kyler long term 4) Indy, Rookie QB, I could see them trading up to #1 5) Seattle, BPA, I suspect they will roll with Geno and take a QB prospect later in the draft 6) Detroit, BPA or trade out with a team wanting to jump Vegas, I suspect they are rolling with Goff another year since the OC decided to stay 7) Vegas, Possible QB, Wildcard team that could go Rookie QB if the FA market doesn't work out 8)Atlanta, BPA, Arthur Smith needs to show improvement this year to avoid the hot seat, I think they are going to go with Ridder and a FA (e.g. Tannehill) The Panthers 9) Carolina, Rookie QB, It's no secret the owner wants "the guy". I could see a trade up to pick #3 or pick #6 depending on how things go. Teams that might trade in front of the Panthers for a QB 11) Tennessee, Vrabel is safe and they just got a new GM that might want to shake things up 19) Tampa Bay, Unlikely that Brady returns

"When will we know the new head coach?" - A three year study
Evil Hurney replied to Evil Hurney's topic in Carolina Panthers
It appears teams may be getting more patient (or it could a byproduct of something else like the new Rooney Rule). The 2020 hiring cycle (that included Rhule) had all the candidates hired within 2-weeks. Meanwhile the 2021 cycle had about half and 2022 cycle had no one hired within the arbitrary two week window. -
Introduction and Raw Data: I was curious when we might start hearing head coaches being "hired" by their new teams so I did a bit of digging. I looked at the last 3 hiring cycles and compared the earliest date when the hire was reported (NOT finalized) to the last date of the regular season. Here are the results (I apologize for any misspellings) Analysis: I took that data and built a pseudo cumulative distribution function. The chart is fairly linear. For those curious the biggest outlier is our old friend Ron being hired a mere 2 days after the regular season. Takeaway: Half of all new HC hires (in the NFL) are completed within 17 days of the final set of games. The 50% mark for this year would be January 25th. No hire has taken more than 30 days, which would be February 7th this year. Don't tell me the odds:

Now the Panthers won't have to wait to fulfill the Rooney rule

Panthers receive permission to interview Sean Payton
Evil Hurney replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Guy is a legit NFL head coach. No harm bringing him in to see what that looks like in an interview setting. Added bonus of getting his views and plans for our team (as others have posted). -
With the Chargers collapse, the Panthers job is likely going to become the second prettiest girl at the dance.

Offensive head coach just spotted the defensive head coach 27 and said hold my beer.
-
Curious who that is going to be. I thought it might be Demarco, but he might not be available until next month and seems like a redundant candidate to Wilks. Can't see Bieniemy sitting back down with Tepper after he got passed over last time. What's Pep Hamilton up to these days?
