Official NFL Draft Round 1 Thread - General Chatter
TheRed replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
There is a middle ground here. He's a Panther so I will support him. Hope he balls out for us this year. But the people blasting others for not being completely high on the pick will be the first ones flipping their lids if our offense struggles to put 20 points on the board this year. -

Not gonna flip out about this one. But at this point where our offense was last year, drafting a LB in the first is hmmmmm. -

We're almost to 50 pages now so by this point it really serves no purpose to rehash all the selections after every single pick is made because not many people are going to be reading through all this crap. They'll generally just skip to the last page. At least let us get to our pick and then recap. -

We don't need a damn RB in the first anyway. -

You're still on this poo? It's 2015 dude. -
Damn boy. Go chew some gum instead.

Hey now, don't you go bringing up significant circumstances like gutting the entire WR core in the same year that he had ankle surgery and missing most of the offseason and not getting the necessary opportunity to build chemistry with the new group. What the hell does that have to do with anything? No really though, if you look at Newton's statistics from year 1 to now. His yardage went down some but he was improving his efficiency as a passer each year and his yards per attempt either went up or stayed the same until the 2014 season where just about everything went to poo for our offense early on. It's not difficult to figure out what happened.

Damn. Guess all my anticipation will shift to the new Mad Max now.

At this point I almost hope we draft this guy just to see all the huddlers pissing their pants with rage.

I think you are exaggerating substantially. Very few people were willing to part with 1st rounders for Blackmon or Gordon. You are more old school in how you picture football players, there is nothing wrong with that. We get it.

The drops were bad, and obviously unacceptable. But to me, another area you have to pay attention to, is how many times KB was targeted. The only WR's who were targeted as much or more than Benjamin in 2014: Alshon Jeffery - 145 targets, 5 drops Andre Johnson - 147 targets , 4 drops Jordy Nelson - 151 targets, 4 drops Julio Jones - 163 targets, 5 drops Antonio Brown - 181 targets, 5 drops Demaryius Thomas - 184 targets, 10 drops Looking at the number of years those guys already have combined in the league (41 total), compared to a rookie KB, it's not nearly as bad as some are making it out to be. I get that you are sour about the drops, but considering the circumstances, mainly him coming into our offense after we completely cleared out the entire wide receiver core (pretty huge fugging factor), and basically making him the centerpiece of our offense as a rookie. He put up 1,000 yards, and 10 touchdowns. No matter how you slice it, it's impressive. Certainly encouraging for the future.

Most people admit he had a pretty good season overall. I think Brandon had a real wake up call so to speak last offseason. Few teams came calling, and he didn't get the offer he expected he was worth. That looks to have sparked a change in him. Shame he never saw his potential here, he showed flashes. But it just didn't work out. You can make a case for why things didn't work out, but ultimately it was all on him. I strongly believe that if he had shown up more when we really needed him, and not made those comments at the end of the 2013 season, Gettleman would have paid him well to remain a Panther for years.

Quotes from Panthers as Phase One of the offseason begins
TheRed replied to gettlemanjack's topic in Carolina Panthers
Is it really that big of a deal that he didn't talk to the media today? Anyone who has been around the huddle and followed the Panthers long enough should know by now how some of those in our local media are. I imagine that Newton probably wanted the other players on the team to get an opportunity to speak instead of them having to sit around waiting while our local "journalists" bombard him with the same useless questions about his contract over and over. -
KB seems like the type of guy that is really hard on himself, always wanting to improve. He also wants to do well for his QB. You combine that with the obvious talent he has, and his size, what's not to like? The future is bright.

I don't necessarily agree with the post you were responding to with this, but your logic is fairly idiotic. You give Wilson the credit for all the teams success, including a SuperBowl victory where the Broncos were so damn bad that the Seahawks basically just had to step off the plane and not fug up, and it was a blowout victory. Yet you place the losing seasons squarely on Newton's shoulders. Thanks for that laugh MadHatter.

Not bad honestly.

Last I checked, Gettleman has not literally stated that DGB is not/will not be on our draft board should he fall to us. People like to think they've had a personal conversation with Dave about this. We don't know anything for certain. All that aside. We need help on offense, it's pretty damn obvious.

Norwell and Remmers were good additions obviously. But everything is still going to hinge on LT. Just being better than Byron Bell is not going to cut it, for me at least. Also, unfortunately, I am not so sure that Ron Rivera will not try to put Amini Silatolu back in the lineup when he's healthy. That is also one factor that we have to keep in mind. I like Ron as a coach, but if not for some injuries last season forcing his hand, things may have been different.

Yes it's better, but the question is how much? When we were fielding one of the worst offensive lines that the league has seen in years, there's obviously nowhere to go but up. You have to look at it realistically, when our OL faced quality teams, they struggled mightily. Our goal should not be just to field an offensive line who can hold their own against mediocre teams picking at the top of the draft every year. We need a group of maulers who can go up against the best of the NFC. Left tackle must be resolved this year if we want a playoff run.

Falcons fined $350,000 and lose 2016 fifth round draft pick

Not really surprising. Goodell looking out for one of his buddies, Arthur Blank.
