  1. I see your point, but in an effort to build a complete roster I would do my best to stack prospects. Honestly, if Chop and Darius Robinson were available at 33/39 I'd grab them both and push WR to the 3rd/4th rounds. Could you imagine the damage a front 3 of DB, AR, and Darius Robinson would cause? Having that 1 player who is a stand out would be great. Turner is the only one that is that guy, in my opinion, in the 1st round. Honestly, I'm liking Chris Braswell more and more as well. When the scouting report reads "He plays with his pants on fire..." and the biggest knock is they don't think he has enough "ankle flexation" I'd take a gamble on that guy. The top 3 sack leaders from the 2023 draft were all drafted outside of the first round. All were mid to late 3rd rounders. Just saying, with good scouting (lately pretty rare on Mint St) we have options.
  2. All three are completely different types of players. Numbers don't necessarily tell the story
  3. You aren't trading two high second round picks to move up in the first. That would be the equivalent of the 15th pick according to Jimmy Johnson. Who in the middle of the first outside of Brock Bowers would help us, right now, more than two high second round picks. At this point we need more players than pedigree.
  4. Depends on who is available. If Chop is there at 33, SPRINT to the podium. If one of their "top guys" aren't there at 33, trade back for more picks or future picks. We need more for next year to restock the roster.
  5. Sings..."Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers..."
  6. Merriman was better at creating a celebration dance than he was at sacking the QB. One of the most over-hyped players of all time. Burns accomplished more in 5 years than he did in 8. Actually, wondering if Burns gets a big(er) head living in NY if they may become near clones of each other.
  7. Former Buckeye replacing another former Buckeye!!!! This is a good LONG TERM move if it happens. Bell was solid, but football isn't played or paid that much after 30.
  8. The beginning of this off season needs to be taken with grace. What we are doing now should have been done when Rhule was hired. When Wilks turned this team around using the power run game we learned a few things about the roster. 1. It was not designed to win via the pass with either Baker or Sam D. There was no true offensive identity. 2. The power running game worked because Wilks committed to it. We tried to build off of the success of one coach by replacing him with another who had a completely different system and expecting to build upon that success by ... moving away from the offensive system that proved to be successful. With the mistake of creating an "all star" coaching staff, it was apparent that the team needs to be blown up. Burns showed last year that he may want to be called a dawg, he fights more like a cat. He showed up, but didn't fully show up (or out). Derek Brown on the other hand, for lack of a better term, kept pounding. Brown is the long term investment for this team at this time. By trading Burns you were able to add nearly 4 players to the roster for the 24 million cap hit that was assigned to him. You also get two draft picks. While we can argue the value of those picks is the fault of the front office, it is really on Burns. His insistence to use Sheena Quick as his own PR frim lowered his trade value here, and after 3 coaches and 5 losing seasons he wanted out. That is not the type of player you commit 30M a year to. We finally have a football guy doing football things behind the scenes and it is starting to show. Everyone gets all warm and fuzzy in the off season, but at least we see a plan in effect here. Build from the inside out. We just went from 2-4 deep on the O-line to being possibly 6 deep. Corbet's move to center is not all that big of a change. This happens all the time. Our biggest need is to draft at least average over the next three years. We have had 29 picks since the 2020 draft. 13 are still on the roster. That is all you need to know. Why did we trade 3 first round picks under 26 years old? We needed to repair 4 years of TERRIBLE drafting outside of the first round. I truly believe we will be on the upswing. I see us winning between 5-6 games, but being competitive in nearly all of them. Last year we weren't remotely competitive at all.
  9. 5 wins. But, this will be 5 wins that shows tremendous growth. We are paying for terrible drafting over a 3 year span. I don't like the subtractions on defense but...... Von Bell missed 3 games YTG missed 4 games Chinn missed 5 games Burns missed 1 game, checked out for many more Shaq missed 16 games Horn missed 12 games Woods missed 4 games Haynes Jr. Basically missed the season Evero could truly make his case for a HC if we can get to 6-7 wins.
  10. If we do flip Burns, it has to be for the 2 second round picks this year. We do that, and I'm calling Bryce Huff's agent to see if we can up his offer and get him to back out of his contract.
  11. This is why we have been hearing about Queen today. Frankie is nearly 4 years older than Queen.
  12. #39, #70 and next year's 3rd. That's what I think it'll be.
  13. Good move!!!! May seem like an overpay at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it's more like a 3 year 63 million dollar deal before he gets extended or released. There is talk of Corbet getting moved to center. Not a bad idea. He could seriously increase his future value with a good showing at the Center position. After watching the Panthers when Corbett returned this season, he was the one making all of the calls at the line, not the center, which I felt was really really odd. I still wouldn't rule out Ickey being moved to LG. He wants to stay at LT because of how the position is paid, you can't blame him. However, if he is truly an elite guard, and looking at the guard pay currently, Icky could rake in Zac Martin money in three years. Think about this line: LT - Brady C LG - Icky C - Corbett RG - Hunt RT - Moten If we can pick up actual developmental depth in the draft that would be a huge win. If we draft a Center and Tackle that can learn and mature over a season or two we could look like an actual NFL team again. Mays is a good depth piece, and that's about all I am confident currently on our team. Currently we only have 14 of a possible 29 players which we drafted since 2020 on the roster. That is horrible. If we draft well over the next two years we can undo that damage.
  14. WOW!!! ..... Justin Simmonds incoming?
  15. Jones to KC at 31M per year Madibuke to BAL for 25M per year Do you think Burns is ready to play ball? 28-29 is the tops he will get. I would only go that high if there was an out after year two or three. 140M over 5 years with 90M guarantee should get it done. I'm pretty confident this is all on Burns. If he can't agree to a contract by Monday I really wouldn't be surprised to see him traded before FA truly begins. By tomorrow you should see: An extension for Moton (4 years) Terrance Marshall Cut Ian Thomas Cut Bozeman restructure or cut (bring him to a reserve lineman's salary) Shaq extension (2 year cap savings) Dalton traded Vonn Bell restructure or extension (cap savings) Xavier Woods extension (cap savings) Tommy Tremble extension (cap savings plus he is young and cheap) Shy Tuttle base salary restructure Something done with Corbett's cap figure FA Targets: Damien Lewis (G) Seattle Robert Hunt (G) Miami Dane Jackson (CB) Buffalo Kristian Fulton (CB) Tenn A.J. Epenesa (DE) Buffalo YGM (OLB) CAR Frankie Luvu (LB) CAR Gabe Davis (WR) Buffalo K.J. Osbourne (WR) Minn Donovan Peoples-Jones (WR) DET Sneaky move: try to trade for Steven Gilmore's brother out of Detroit for a late round pick.
  16. Didn't this expansion team make it to a NFC title game on year two? Cleaner play will fix a lot of our problems. Create an offensive scheme that fits the players on the roster, drop the weakest links. I think Bozeman would entertain a restructure to back-up pay rather than be cut outright. If we can avoid his roster bonus he is good three position depth. We need to draft a center and sign a guard. Draft a wide receiver and take a shot on a few FA's to compete. I like Donovan Peoples Jones and KJ Obourne. TE may be hard to fill but adding Will Dissey and or Colby Parkinson. Extend Moton to free up cap room. Defense, Sign Luvu and extend Brown. Tag and trade Burns or pay him. Either way we need clarity prior to the draft. We could surprise if we are smart this time. Last year was the model of an inefficient franchise. Reboot 3.0 KEEP POUNDING!!!!
  17. Waiting on Shenna Quick to lecture us all about how this is an unfair move towards Burns......
  18. 2024 Draft/FA plan: Don't overspend on People you don't know Sign Luvu Extend DB Sign Burns - Unless you get a 2024 1st and a 2025 2nd you keep him. His number is intimidating today, but if next year the salary cap increases 15-20 million again, his number isn't as bad as it seems for a top 10 EDGE rusher. Target a mid pass rusher like YGM and AJ Espanza or make a move for Johnathan Greenard IF we cut Donte Jackson, make a run at Kenny Moore III from Indy, or make a run at him anyway Attempt to trade the #33 pick to acquire more 2024 picks I'd be on the phone with GB. Trade our 33 for GB 41 and GB 88 Getting an additional 2nd would allow us to address the OL/WR early and truly draft BPA Draft Cade Stover. He is a complete TE who will do much better in the NFL
  19. Here is what I would do...... Tag and trade Burns. You could easily get a first round pick for him. Likely an additional 2nd and/or 3rd. I'd aim at the second for next year to replace our capital. Before I execute the trade I am looking at getting a gauge if I can sign Bryce Huff, AJ Espinosa, and YGM. If I can accomplish that, I have created depth, and replaced the production from last year and created cap flexibility. All of this could be done prior to the legal tampering period. By doing this we could also re-sign Frankie, extend DB, and have a late round first and the first pick of the second round. We could even theoretically trade back into the bottom or the first round if we see a prospect worthy of a potential 5th year option. Burns alone doesn't make up for the depth created by adding 3 players for the price of one. If we get a mid to late 1st for Burns we have better options at WR, CB, and EDGE which are our three biggest weaknesses. OL help can be found in the 3rd-5th round and via free agency. I'd also be looking hard at Jenkins JR and Sweat at NT.
  20. As one contributor said..."Jayce Horn is a DAWG! He's just usually at the vet." Smitty says Judy is not a dog. Smitty is a top dog. That's a no from me DAWG
  21. TD playing the Super Bowl after having arm surgery was a dawg! Mike Tolbert off a screen pass was a dawg! We need a few players in that locker room who the rest of the team is legitimately scared of. Some of these young bucks need to be set straight. Give DB and Luvu a second contracts and tell them they are also being paid to enforce the standard. Watching Sanders on the Camp Confidential made me think he had the wrong priorities to really be a dawg. Guess my gut was right.
  22. Chuba can lead a RBBC. You don't necessarily need a bell-cow if you have quality depth. Chuba/Blacksheer/and a draft pick would provide that. Sanders may be off the roster if he doesn't show any improvement in the spring. I'd be open to a Brock Oswiler type trade after June 1. (salary dump)
  23. If he wants to be a head coach he needs to put in the work at one place for more than one season. If our offense improves to league average and the defense plays at a similar level as they did in '23, he will be even more highly thought of. If I was a GM, I would be worried that he is just chasing $$$$. Tepper opened the check book to get him. If he was truly worried about fit, do you think this was the job? He was able to show that he can successfully implement a new scheme with mismatched personnel. Now if Evero were able to build upon it, that would make him HC material. If he had the opportunity to stay in Denver and he was able to build upon the awesome defense they were playing at season's end, he would have gotten a job. Play out your contract, continue to leave a place better than it was when he arrived. If he doesn't get a HC job, he will be the most sought after DC in the NFL.
  24. Evero has only been a DC for two seasons. One here and one at Denver. It would be in his best interest to stay here and build upon his successes. Honestly, imagine what he could do without such bad injury luck. No way we are this unlucky in regard to injuries two seasons in a row. If he keeps the defense consistent or shows improvement he will be a HC during the next cycle.
