We just need to sign Gardner Minshew II. Draft a stud DE in the top 10. Fill out the holes with our other picks. Him and Matt Corral in a QB room would be a blast. Our offense needs some spice and flavor, this dude has the recipe to at least make the Panthers fun again. I really hope he starts for Philly this week and our scouting department is all over the tape. I know I'll be glued to that game if he's playing. Aside from the hype that his personality brings, the QB's coming out this year are not impact QB's. It's going to take a few seasons for any of them to develop into what he is capable of. We aren't getting Young or Stroud. Levis is not it. Hooker is about the same age as GMII without the years of pro experience. Long story short, most college QB's outside of a clear #1 such as Burrow or Lawrence are a roll of the dice. None of the 2023 draft class is worth what it would take to make a boss move to into the top 3 or 5. 2023 Free Agent QB's - Lamar Jackson - He's not leaving Baltimore Tom Brady - He's not coming here Teddy Bridgewater - nope Baker Mayfield - nope Sam Darnold - We know how this will go, maybe as a back-up if Corral has no future Daniel Jones - Basically Sam Darnold 2023, hard pass Jimmy Garoppolo - The QB equivalent of the missionary possession; no risk, can get the job done, but after a while everyone has your game figured out. Jacoby Brissett - One part Teddy B mixed with a garnish of Jimmy G This is the hill I am willing to die on until Uncle Rico rescues me with deep pass sailing past our mountain of futility. Keep Wilks, bring in Frank Reich as OC or throw a bag of money at Shane Steichen so GMII can come in knowing the offense.

Official Panthers at Seahawks GameDay Thread
BeenPounding replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
That was Carolina Panther Football. (minus that last awful TD) It's about dang time!!!!! Hop on the Wilks wagon ya'all !!!!! -
I see your logic, and I guess that I could amend my support for Wilks with the caveat that he is able to recruit a young and upcoming offensive mind to be the OC and a great teacher as our QB coach. You can't fairly judge him by keeping MacAdoo-doo on staff this year. By the time Rhule was fired, the Panthers (according to many) were already stuck with him. In my opinion, weather or not Wilks gets the full time hire will be dependent on who he can get committed to being part of his staff. The modern NFL coach is more CEO than decision maker and is only as good as those who surround him. My thought is that there are some really good pieces in play here. Our O-line has improved vastly with Campen, our Special Teams coach is great, Al Holcomb had done very well at DC. The public is showing more faith in the team post-Rhule. At what point do you objectively weigh out how to continue to build on current success rather than basically start from scratch?

To me, last night's game shows that Macadoo - doo is more of the problem than Baker was. His scheme is predicable, out of date, and he basically never gave Baker a chance to cook. He was the same way with PJ, and I imagine it will end up like that with Sam. Wilkes needs to get this job. If he can finish with 7 wins after cleaning up the mess from Rhule and Macadoo-doo he is a legit NFL coach. Provide us with a competent OC, and we are in the playoffs next season.

Matt Rhule: “I wish I never took the job”
BeenPounding replied to CashNewton22's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm waiting for Tepper to take over the Nebraska collective, donate money to all competing programs, and or purchase property next to Rhule's new house just to keep 7 years of construction running at all hours of the day just to get back at him. -
Who should we be looking at outside the "top 4" QB candidates?
BeenPounding replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would go with Jefferson (WR TCU) if we are not 100% sold on Stroud or Young. Our beefed up line, two stud WR's, and a solid run game would make it easier to see if Matt Corral is it or not. Honestly, I'd bring Sam back on back-up money. If we can swing it, draft the QB from TCU in the mid rounds as well. You know Fitty is going to be trading back in the second round unless there is a top flight pass rusher available. -
People have very short memories. While we were not on the same level of the Patriot's, Chiefs, Steelers, Packers, or Colts in terms of consistency, I feel like we have had very good and entertaining spurts of success. Many people agree that the NFL is built for teams to hover around .500%. Inherently, you are going to encounter years of build up and break down. Here are the Panthers since Fox, and Rivera. The Bills are the rage right now, how long did they go without being in the playoffs? Let's take a look. (Spoiler, it goes all the way back to 1999) The Chiefs from 1999 - 2012 made the playoffs 3 times only winning one playoff game during that time. The 49'ers have made the playoffs 7 times in 22 years. Long story short, consistency is much more rare than it seems. I'm proud of our history. In fact, 2003-2009 and 2012-2017 were some really fun years, even when we didn't make the playoffs. If we have had 12 of 28 successful years where we were either in the playoffs or right there in the mix, I'll take those odds. Heck if you add in 95-97 and 99 we were right at or well above .500% again. 57% of the time we are in the mix. Rhule was a stain on our history, even worse than Siefert, but we will come back. Heck the best thing for our franchise was the Clausen year and the last Siefert year. Shoot we even pulled off a 7-9 record during the Vinny/St. Pierre/Wildcat season. Be a fan and show some faith. The Panther way works. Better than the Lion, Jaguar, Jet, way. #keeppounding 4 life!!!!!!

Falcons - possible win (3-5) Bengals - loss (3-6) Falcons - win (4-6) Ravens - loss (4-7) Broncos - possible win (5-7) Seahawks - win (6-7) Steelers - win (7 - 7) Lions - win (8-7) Bucs - (win? 9-7) Saints - (win 10-7) Honestly, if Baker or Sam get on track this could happen...... Not sure if I'd be amazed or upset. You'd have to wonder if the would constitute a "remarkable" job by Wilks. Thoughts?

Don't we get a dollar for dollar credit for unused cap space? According to OTC, we have .5 million of cap space for 2023. If we get our 10.2 million credit, get Shaq to take a cut or walk, lose Elf, we won't really be in that bad of a spot. If the Saints can make it work after all the Breese extensions, we can make it work. TBT, our Defense would look SOOOOOOO much better if they weren't on the field 70% of each game. That's why they are dropping like flies. They have played the equivalent of 10 games 6 games into the season. If I am a perspective coach, and I have this defense, a potential #1 (at least top 5) pick in the first two rounds, and a winnable division, I'd hop on it. The Jimmy Clausen year was tough to stomach, but worth the run from 2011 - 2019. This might be as ugly as the Vinny/St. Pierre year. Maybe McAdoo can draw up some wildcat formations at the local Radisson!

Fire Rhule and Snow walks.... that's fine. Let Wilks take over the Defense. I'd love to have him as HC, but I feel that would hurt the D too much. Have Ryan move from QB coach to HC. Make Macadoo earn it on the play calling. If Wilks can turn the D into what they are capable of give him consideration at HC in 2023. It's obvious they are not going to make it to next year, rip off the band-aid.
