Also, Tepper gave Rhule an even longer contract (7 years). Reich probably would have gotten longer than a 4-year contract if he hadn't been 61 years old.
-
Irrelevant to the thread but the fact that Todd Gurley is only 29 years old right now is nuts. It sucks that his knees couldn't hold up. He was insanely good.
-
I'm excited.

Because money. Otherwise, Tee Higgins would just re-sign with Cincy if he wanted a guarantee to keep winning.
-
People said the same thing about DeAndre Hopkins and he signed with the Titans. Players will generally sign with the team offering them the best contract. Yeah they want to win but they also want to get paid, and Mike Evans has already won a ring. So he has even more incentive than Hopkins to take the best deal presented to him. And I don't think it would be shocking at all to see Evans go with the team employing his former OC as head coach.

We may as well have kept Frank Reich if we're going to hire Mike Vrabel. Vrabel strikes me as the kind of coach that everyone thinks is good for reasons, but couldn't actually name what he does on gameday that makes the Titans better. So they just cite his leadership and whatnot. When you consider the Titans were largely feasting on bad AFC South teams, they were largely average under him. In 6 years, only twice did their offense finish in the top 10 (and this is with Derrick Henry). Same for their defense (he also sucked as a DC in Houston). They finished with 10+ wins only twice in 6 years, and in those 2 seasons, they got bounced in their first playoff game without scoring 20 points in either. And to me, it is telling that NFL fans are higher on Mike Vrabel than Titans fans are.

Canales could help us acquire Mike Evans, who will be a free agent, depending on the relationship they had.

Florio ain't "kissing the ring" or Tepper's ass apparently. (On Morgan)

Yes, Adam Peters was/is a better candidate than Dan Morgan. I'm not trying to sell you on Dan Morgan. I'm just saying your point that Dan Morgan hadn't interviewed with anyone else this cycle really doesn't mean much. There were only 3 teams with open GM spots that could/would have interviewed him. 1 got their guy immediately and 2 (Chargers) are going to ultimately pick the GM that Harbaugh wants. So yeah, it hasn't gotten talked about because it doesn't mean much. Now yes I'm sure you can list a litany of reasons as to why Dan Morgan isn't a good hire. And I might agree with you on some. I just don't think that particular point shows or proves anything. -
Maybe to Tillis. My guess is no to Canales (for now). I expect the Panthers to wait until they can interview everyone else.

I don't think this proves what you think it proves. There were only 4, including us, real GM openings in the NFL (Patriots fired Belichick, but are keeping the same guys in the front office to fill the GM role). 49ers got Adam Peters damn near immediately (who has been the best candidate for years). Chargers are pursuing Jim Harbaugh, who will be their de facto GM. So only one team it would have made sense to interview him would have been the Raiders. And they hired Tom Telesco, so are we really sure we should look at them on how to do things? Not trying to say the hire was a good one. If you don't like it, that is fine. But saying he didn't interview with any other team doesn't prove anything. There weren't that many open GM spots to begin with this year, and 2 of the teams had their sights on one guy. John Lynch wasn't looked at by any teams either and he's turned out fine. -
Does Ron Rivera have a tax lien or gambling habit?

The vast majority of coaches genuinely love coaching. It is their calling. And not everyone wants to retire at 60 even if they have the money to. -
GIVE ME CANALES
-
This will probably work out with how many people hate it. Seems like the opposite always comes true when it comes to this team.
-
Out of all the potential hires, he would probably be my least favorite by far.

Dumb to draft a QB this year. This team needs immediate help. Besides, if Bryce is bad again, we'll have a high 1st in 2025 and will be in a better position to pick a QB who is an actual 1st round prospect. This team can't afford to spend 3 draft picks on 3 QBs in 3 years. Just wait until 2025. Sign a quality, one year stopgap vet if you want competition.

NFL Playoffs Divisional Round - Games Thread

I mean he's the best player on the 3rd ranked scoring defense and had 10.5 sacks and 35 sacks after holding out all of training camp. I guess he took a step back, but I mean hard not to take a step back after a DPOY campaign. -
CJ Stroud looks like a future Hall of Fame QB. And I don't say that lightly. It ain't even about the numbers. It isn't about the Texans winning games and going to the postseason. It is all about the throws he makes. That isn't scheme. That isn't supporting cast. His deep ball is just... you can't do anything about it. I always knew he was a great passer though. It was his ability to move in the pocket and be a playmaker outside of it that I questioned. But I think he's proving me wrong on that. He will never be much of a runner, but he can rip it downfield accurately while on the move. It is a little similar to Drew Brees. Brees wasn't someone who was taking off and running, but the way he could navigate the pocket was second to none.

White DEs/edge rushers are a different breed. Hutchinson, Bosa, TJ Watt, Crosby... they are built different man lol Burns is a good player but he doesn't have that kind of edge to him. -

And it wasn't just a one-time thing with Eli. He wasn't a consistent QB but he was crazy clutch. You can't say the same about Rivers. Was he a better QB than Eli? Sure, but with the game on the line, give me Eli 100%. -

That's still pretty concerning though. Amon-Ra, La Porta, and Gibbs looked great as rookies under Campbell. I know Williams missed some time due to injury and suspension, but very concerning that he's not making an impact and/or getting PT (he played 70% of the offensive snaps last week though). I think he's a talented guy but I don't know if it will happen with Detroit/Goff (Goff is a good QB but not exactly the ideal QB for Jameson). -
This is why it is important for fans to remember how coveted and rare a HC job is, and why 90% of candidates (basically anyone but the very elite who will always have interest from teams) aren't gonna turn down jobs. I know the Panthers job isn't ideal, but it is still one of 32 positions in the NFL and will pay you a lot of money. Kafka went from highly-interviewed last year to not getting much interest. Things change so fast in the NFL that one year you look great, the next year? Not so much. Hard for coaches to risk that. Ben Johnson took the risk and it paid off. But imagine if the Lions got hit with injuries and their offense finished near bottom of the league. He wouldn't be as exciting of a candidate. I still think Johnson decided to stay another year because the energy in the building at Detroit was out of this world.

Too bad Jameson Williams is beginning to look like a bust. He's like the only skill-position player in that offense that never has a big game. I wonder if he simply isn't a good fit on that team. -
Who is beating us in the NFC South with Mike MacDonald at HC?
Mage replied to thunderraiden's topic in Carolina Panthers
Macdonald has the LOOK. I think he would bring toughness back to the Carolinas.
