Yes and no Would have loved to make that trade ourselves, but he's also the highest paid TE in the league. We could sign Shultz for significantly less I'd think, Gesicki for substantially less for sure. Not being in on this trade though means to me that we HAVE to land one of these good pass catching TE's though. He's also older than you'd have imagined since it took him time to break into the league, he turns 31 a few weeks into the season.

Not at all, saw people saying today after we signed him that Tuttle is more like 325 lbs these days, and let's be real, we could put DB in that spot on run plays and he isn't going to be moved anywhere and take up 2 blockers. He probably is best used as a pass rushing DE in the 3-4, but if we lack true NT depth in year 1 with this staff, I think he can spend some of his time there in the middle. That's also a position that a lot of times can be filled with a late round draft pick since you're really just looking for a massive human being who isn't going to pass rush, they can be found in the 5-7 round range. Use our our first 4 picks on offense and then use our second 4th or 5th rounder on a 350 lbs NT.

Probably also less to do with the system and more questioning if his WRs made him look too good, which I kinda can see as yea, he'll have thrown to 4 first round WR's most likely, at worst 3 first and 1 second if JSN falls this year. But you can also look at it and say maybe they were drafted so high because they had Stroud throwing to them. In the end, maybe Richardson has the highest potential ceiling, but Stroud and Young have by far the highest floors with Young's maybe a tad higher pending him staying healthy, but I think that barely higher floor doesn't make up for the lack of flaws and higher ceiling that comes with Stroud. To be honest, that's why I didn't really want to trade up to 1, wanted to give up less and take whoever fell as I think all 4 have real potential, but now that we're here, it's just gotta be Stroud.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how absurd it will be if it's anyone other than Stroud. Richardson has accuracy issues Levis has decision making issues Young has serious size issues Stroud's biggest issue is that people wonder if he played with too good of weapons and/or is a system QB. Which is basically saying, he has the size and does everything you could want a QB to do, but let's discredit him because past OSU QB's haven't worked out in the NFL and we can't think of any actual flaws that he has. Just ridiculous when you think about it that way and that we'd consider anyone else after giving up all we did to trade up. If Stroud ends up as a bust because he can't do it without OSU's system, that feels easier to live with than if we take any of the others and their much more obvious potential flaws end up making them not work out.

That would give us about 12 million left unless you already took out the 8 needed for rookies. Which is why we need to cut Elflein, he isn't too hard to replace on the roster, especially if Cade can take a step forward this year. We need that $4 million to spend elsewhere right now, can get backup lineman in the draft or later in FA. Still need to land some WR, RB, TE, DE, CB, plus a backup QB too.

I want Mattison myself, probably over Foreman as I think he's more explosive and can catch passes which will help a rookie QB. Shultz is my preferred TE but figure we'll be priced out, so I'd like to see use go after Gesicki next. Think I'd add Thielen to the WR want list though, as long as he's not trying to get too much money, I think he'd be a great savvy slot WR for a rookie QB to have.

We've got a great starting line, but with a new system coming in, no need to keep guys like Erving or Elflein around for continuity. I'm not going to pretend I know backup lineman in the league, but I'd like to see us fill backup spots with players who are familiar with the offensive coaches who have come in. Guys who will know the system and concepts and can help make the starters pick it up faster and be more suited to play if needed from injuries.

Yea, that's what I think they would get for him and is fair. But I'm not taking a 3rd round pick to send him to the Bills if I'm the Chargers. They're looking at a couple year SB window with how that roster is built at the moment and the Bills are obviously also a favorite. That trade would hurt their overall chances to win a SB more than it would help. Someone else out there that aren't the Bills/Chiefs/Bengals will give them that much for him.

Hockenson is one thing and they got a 2nd and 3rd for him (giving back 4ths too), Ekeler is so much more of a difference maker who fills a huge hole for the Bills and would make their offense basically unstoppable. Not sure how much the Chargers will really get for a 28 year old RB who a team will then need to sign to a big extension at the same time, less than we got for CMC for sure as he actually had a decent contract for at team to take on since we had to eat the bonus. The Chargers expect to be one of the top SB contenders next year, they're not giving Ekeler to the Bills for what, a 3rd round pick? Seems like that would hurt their chances this year more than help.

Oh 100% agree, that post wasn't anything against Diggs, if anything it was in his favor as I was pointing out that I don't think they'd go after Hopkins because they want to keep Diggs happy since he's worth it. If I'm the Bills, I'm going after Hardman and Thielen, two very different WRs who can both have a significant impact on that offense with limited targets and catches. Hardman to take the top off and keep safeties from doubling Diggs on every play and Thielen to be a 8 yard safety valve for Allen when he can't get it downfield. Then they can trade Davis or just let him play out his rookie contract and have a nasty 4 WR set they can throw out there in a run for the SB this year.

If I'm the Chargers, no chance I'm trading Ekeler to Buffalo, sorry kid, you can sit out the season before we're giving you to one of our main challengers in the conference.

What about him? He signed a 3 year, $24 million deal and went out and put up 82 catches (21st), 823 yards (35th), and 5 TDs (34th). Nothing wrong with that for $8 million a year at all. And again, this was in their first year with Trevor and a new coaching staff, that offense is on the rise. They also added Evan Engram last offseason too, I think they killed it for getting Lawrence weapons last year. You can say they overpaid for both of them given what people expected their market value to be. But they clearly saw something in both of them and paid them where they thought they'd perform, and they did the job.

Can't see the Bills wanting someone like Hopkins unless they also get rid of Diggs. Diggs is amazing, but he is a bit of a diva at times and needs a lot of passes thrown his way. They're not going out there and getting someone like Hopkins who also would demand a lot of targets and risk having more games of Diggs pouting like his did late last year. I think they'd be more looking at someone like a Thielen, solid possession WR from the slot who will settle in just fine getting 4-6 targets a game and be a nice safety valve for Allen for when he can't push it downfield to Diggs.

What's that? Go out and sign someone who would end the season 14th in the league in yards and score 8 TDs? Yea, that's a terrible idea. (yes, I get what you're saying is to do what everyone felt was a massive overpay for a player given their history, but clearly it wasn't a bad signing in the end and he should only improve in another season with Trevor)

His Cap hit is 30, his salary is 19.5, which means he'd only be 19.5 towards our cap as the 30 includes the portion of his signing bonus. Sign him to a 1-2 year extension at the same time and we can lower that cap hit by a decent amount and structure it in a way that it really doesn't hurt us in the future much either.

What about something like Corral and a 2024 4th or 5th round pick for Hopkins? I'm guessing they're looking for a 3rd for Hop, but something like that could work and I think it would be totally worth it for us to do. They might not want to pay for a FA QB if they think Kyler won't miss much time, could be an interesting trade as Corral at least would likely fit in the same offense they put together for Kyler.

I know everyone wants Foreman back, but what does everyone think about maybe trying to bring in Mattison? He has looked great whenever Cook has been injured, doesn't have a ton of wear and tear on his body, I think he'd be a great pick up.

They're not going to make these kids look bad, but I'd bet money that teams, at least the smart ones, give guys like Mooch and Gruden in the past a call and ask them how those interviews really went, and I'm sure they're honest with the teams about it.

Love it, feels like a nice 2 for 1 signing in that it also addresses LB need by moving Chinn back there, where he should be more impactful player. I know he was already a LB as a rookie, but I would love to see Chinn seek out TD this offseason to pick his ear about moving from Safety to LB and putting on good weight to do it the right way. Can't think of a better person or player to help guide him there.

Players say it, and sure, it might be a small factor, but I don't think it really affects their final decisions all that much. The way being paid in the NFL works, you're taxed based on where the game is played. So even if you live in a state with no income tax, that only helps you for half of your contract. So let's say you sign with Miami, great, you get half of your salary with no state income tax. But it also means you play two games a year in New York/NJ against the Bills and Jets, high tax rates there. They also play in California this upcoming season as well, there's a 3rd state with a high tax rate that you're paying this year too. So in the end, I'm just not sure how much of a factor it really plays for these guys

Yes and no We're officially the worst "placeholder" option out there since the expectation would be that if any Rookie QB was going to start from day 1, it would be the first one taken. The Colts are likely to end up with someone who won't be ready to start week 1, same with whoever gets the other QB from the top 4 of them. The Cardinals "placeholder" is likely to start the year as the starter, and who knows how long it will take Kyler to be ready, it could be a significant portion of the season that they get to play. Nobody knows what is going on with the Jets yet, same goes for the Falcons and Bucs starting jobs too. So it's not a matter of other teams or those players thinking they're legitimate starters, there are just other better opportunities out there for places to get early playing time than here.
