If he wanted to be our coach, he'd have done it this past offseason when we had an opening and wanted him. We're unequivocally worse right now and are saddled with a QB who is looking like a bust, why would he turn down the likely elite positions he's going to be offered for that if he turned us down in a better place last year?
-
It's working because Rivera, for all his faults as a gameday coach, is a leader of men whose players love him. There's a reason EB has never gotten that HC job, it's because he has a reputation around the league for not getting along with players, and GMs/Owners know that doesn't really work for most new HC's. We need the right coach for Bryce, and EB aint it
-
He's Josh McDaniels part 2 Never has gotten along with his players but was a great X's and O's coach who got results because of that. Problem is that works for an OC when they're with a strong leader as a HC that the team will follow (such as Belichick, Reid, Rivera). It doesn't work when you are the HC, because then your players hate you and don't want to play for you and your abrasive style of coaching.

Ben Johnson is going to have his pick of jobs this offseason Tepper won't be able to offer him enough to turn down the potential of coaching Herbert or one of the teams with a pick to take a QB in the draft to coach this dumpster fire with a high school player sized QB.

If you want to call that on 2nd down when we were on our own side of the 50, sure, go for it. But once we crossed the 50, goal #1 should have been to get into reasonable FG range. It was the wrong call for that point in the game and it made for a much tougher 3rd down play, the whole game was horrible, but I think that call could have been the killer, especially with how we were actually moving the ball on that drive for once.
-
Was the 2nd down go route That's when we needed to just pick up a 5 yard play, it would have made 3rd down more manageable, it would have allowed to potentially go for it on 4th and 5, or it would have been a more reasonable attempt at a 54 yard FG instead. But running that go route was about the worst play call and/or decision by Bryce imaginable at that time, we had been working it down the field on short throws pretty well up until then, should have done another there.
-
They also all had many flashes of elite potential in those early games, even if they lost and had INTs Bryce has maybe 2 or 3 plays like that in the entire season, it’s embarrassingly bad for a #1 overall pick

I've already explained that Harbaugh isn't the right fit for this franchise right now, it would be an Urban Meyer situation without a doubt. And I'm not saying Reich 100% is the guy, I'm more convinced that Bryce isn't the guy than Reich isn't. But you can't do back to back seasons of firing a coach after 1 season, so if we're not going to attract good HC candidates this offseason, because we won't, then you don't make the move. We took Bryce, we have to deal with the outcomes for 2 years, no way around it. If he continues to struggle this much this year, nobody good will be willing to tie their career chances to it, HC's usually only get one shot.

Like I said in the post, he's a good OC because he's a good X's and O's coach, but that doesn't mean they'd be a good HC, it's a totally different skill set, same reason Josh McDaniels was a great OC but sucked as an HC. I won't even begin to pick a GM, I don't know other team's up and coming front office people, nobody on here is THAT knowledgable to actually speak intelligently on that subject to be honest. For HC, I think we have to stick with Reich through next year and if things are that bad next year, you can fire him mid-way through the season. As I've explained a few times lately when the topic of firing Reich comes up... no elite young up and coming HC candidate, particularly an offensive minded one, is going to want to tie their future to Bryce right now, especially in an offseason that could have a lot of really good openings out there (Chargers, Bears, Falcons, Giants, Commanders, Raiders all have intriguing weapons and/or high draft picks in this draft and likely will be getting new HC's). We play the hand we have and hope Reich and Bryce can turn it around together, if not and they suck next year, you fire Reich and bring in a new HC who has the choice of keeping Bryce or dumping him and replacing him with that likely Top 5 pick we end up with in 2025 in that scenario. I want a Ben Johnson type, smart innovative offensive mind and play caller... who that coach will be in 2 years, I don't know, but that's who I'm targeting.

Yes it will be rock bottom because it will be to the Bears who own our draft pick If we lose because Moore goes nuts, it will be an even more rock bottom than just losing It really can't get much worse from here on out after that if it happens, let's hope it doesn't.

HELLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOO There is a reason Bienemy hasn't gotten a HC job yet, and it's not because of the color of his skin He rubs people the wrong way, particularly his players, and he has a bunch of questionable issues in his past. If you can't get along with the best player in the NFL, who your career depends on, then you probably don't have the proper temperament and coaching style to be a successful NFL HC. And it was painfully clear that Mahomes never really liked the guy He's basically the next Josh McDaniels, someone who is a good X's and O's coach, so they succeed as an OC, but they just don't have the right personality and coaching style to make it as a HC and will just create friction in the locker room.

Soccer has much more frequent manager changes than the NFL does, just the nature of the sport. Changing a coach in the NFL is significantly more difficult given the structure of plays and strategy Soccer is near the complete opposite, a new coach can completely change a teams overall game strategy in little to no time at all. Sure it will take time for players to adjust and learn to play in a new system, but it’s nothing like NFL teams having to re-adjust and learn new plays that need to have 11 players working in perfect timing together.

He doesn't exactly have the arm to air it out. We'll never be an exciting downfield passing attack with Bryce unless he decides to get on the juice. You can still be successful in the NFL without that kind of attack, but you need to have well drawn up plays to get WRs open in space, the WRs capable of getting open in said space, an OL that can block for more than 3 seconds, and most importantly... a QB who is good enough to run that offense at a high level. I'll admit, we don't have any of the plays, WRs, or OL aspects of that right now and it doesn't help Bryce But Bryce also just isn't HIM either, he's never going to be an elite QB, his absolute ceiling is a Top 15-20 QB in the league, and that's if everything goes right from here on out for him. Worst trade ever
-
Yes on Higgins, no on another in the 2nd If we get Higgins, with Thielen and Mingo already on board, we have too many holes to fill with long term solutions, particularly on defense, and that's where the 2nd rounder needs to be spent. There's always decent cheap WR options out there in FA, particularly when we'd really only be looking for our #4. Someone like Mecole Hardman this last offseason signing for $4 million would be exactly what we'd need, especially if the Top 3 was Higgins, Thielen, Mingo, as we could then very much use a shiftier speed WR to compliment them. Those are also the type of WRs you can try to find a hidden gem in the 3-5 rounds of the draft. I may be biased as an Arizona alum, but Jacob Cowing would be someone I'd love to land in say the 4th round, he'd be a great fit for Bryce.

Yes, he'd be putting up better stats with weapons like that over what we've given him, of course. However, he still has glaring size and strength issues that I don't think he can ever fix, and frankly his decision making hasn't been great either and that was what he was supposed to be next level at. I'll say that could just be him having unexpected rookie troubles and he can fix that, but he's not going to grow another 2-3 inches and his arm isn't going to double in strength at this stage. He shouldn't have been the #1 overall pick, he isn't who you should take when you trade away what we did, it was a dumb gamble and decision that most average fans saw coming. Again, he had ZERO elite physical abilities, and in fact I don't think you could even say he had any great physical abilities, he was about average to below average physically across the board. They bet on his brain making him the biggest outlier in the history of the NFL at the QB position, it still baffles me.
-
That isn't a career path that someone purposefully gets fired when they're lower level, it could end your aspirations before they ever get going. I could see McCown doing it though, as he'd be in demand anywhere, lots of teams wanted him before he came here. That's almost the scary thing, if McCown leaves, it means he really didn't want Bryce, as it means he doesn't want to bet his career on Bryce.

Exactly, I love how people think we see/know things about the Panthers that we don't see/know about other teams and assume it means something is wrong with this franchise, but seem to forget they spend half their free time on this forum. Most people here consider Burns to be our best player, I'll bet you at least 33% of people who consider themselves to be big NFL fans wouldn't even know who he is if you said his name to them.

Evidence of Tepper meddling in football operations?
tukafan21 replied to TeppersEgos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just because a reporter says that, doesn't mean it's true. If we had a lame duck coach, I could see Tepper trying to force the issue, but not after he just hired Reich and let him build the "all star staff" that he put together, particularly with all the "QB gurus" that were hired. If they all came to him and said, look, it can't be Bryce and has to be Stroud for all these reasons and we all fully believe that, he wouldn't have forced them to take Bryce, he's not stupid. I'm not saying it's not possible that he put his finger on the scale, but this isn't Dallas or the Snyder era Redskins where the owner is also GM or is open about pushing decisions. It's all speculation by fans that I'm guessing is much further from the truth than it is close to it. -
Evidence of Tepper meddling in football operations?
tukafan21 replied to TeppersEgos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Oh, and to those who say he talks about how he's involved and so does Reich..... Being involved doesn't mean forcing decisions. If I dropped 2 billion on a football team, you're damn right I'm going to be in the room listening to the discussions being had, and sure, I'll drop my views in there as well, but it doesn't mean he's forcing them to make decisions they didn't want to make. People just have assumptions and want to blame him since things haven't gone well since he bought the team, which is fair, criticize him for wrong coaching and front office hires, but until there is clear evidence that he's meddling in on field decisions, then it should stop. -
Evidence of Tepper meddling in football operations?
tukafan21 replied to TeppersEgos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Haven't read through this thread yet, but I've always wondered this myself and it frustrates me that people keep bringing it up with ZERO evidence to it so far. Sure, I'll give you that he pushed to make the trade to #1, and frankly I can't fully fault him for that. But I haven't seen a single thing that says he forced them to take Bryce instead of Stroud, all people point to is the pictures of them looking happy near Bryce, which is just nonsense to jump from that to "Tepper forced them to draft Bryce" I think he's FAR less involved in football decisions than the majority on here think, and it's why I have no issue bashing Bryce, the Staff, the other players, etc, and don't say much about Tepper. The owners who meddle don't hide it, they openly talk about making decisions, Tepper hasn't done that once. -
You don't trade your best WR, 2 firsts, and 2 seconds to take a player who will have a "good career" You do that for an elite player, anything short of that and it was a horrible trade and pick. End of story
-
Well, we had a better QB, OL, RB, WR, and defense last year than we have this year, so........... Bringin in Thielen was the only good move we made this offseason, everything else made the team worse, which is alarmingly scary
-
Because he took over a team that had injuries and woefully underperformed, not a team that was in a total rebuild, or even any type of rebuild. They had 9 Pro Bowlers and 6 All Pros his first season, that wasn't because of his coaching, it's because they had some GREAT players. Especially as it was mostly on the defensive side of the ball, which clearly isn't his coaching. We don't have a single player in that category right now, let alone that many.
-
I'd bet a lot of money he wouldn't even consider the Raiders, and frankly, it won't have anything to do with the Raiders themselves other than the fact that they don't have a franchise QB in place. I can't see him willingly going into a division with Mahomes and Herbert (who will have a new coach, likely Ben Johnson).
