Was talking about this with someone on our Arizona boards who lives in NC, a UNC friend of his said the same thing to him. The funny thing is that I agree, even though Caleb has completely changed his game this year. I know he had the tendency to try to play hero ball in UNC and would become a black hole at times and shoot them out of games, but he really has not done that at all this year. Sure, there's been a few times he's taken bad shots that he shouldn't have, but he hasn't done it for full games and cost us losses. He's done an amazing job at playing within himself and the offense, and it lead to him being a 2nd team All American and Pac 12 Player of the Year. Don't get me wrong, he's had some bad games and bad shooting games (especially of late, the last 5 games his 3 point shot has been woefully off for some reason), but he's never had any games with more than 1 or 2 shots that he shouldn't have even considered to where he was the reason we lost. Having said that... I agree, if Arizona-UNC end up playing Saturday, he's either going off for a monster game or I think he'll struggle to not try and be THAT guy to beat his old team and end up shooting us into a loss for the first time this year.

hmmm, that's interesting, wouldn't have guessed that. The one thing I'd point out is that it does say "during" the football season, which makes sense given how often they have to be there. But it is only 4 months out of the year, maybe they live in NYC the rest of the year, dunno
-
My "what do you do if you win the lottery" is a super easy one. I move to Tucson into a house on a golf course, and the day I get into town, I walk into the Arizona athletic department and ask how much money I have to donate to get courtside seats for life and I cut them a check.

I'll bet more Giants/Jets players live in Manhattan than you'd think Remember, most of these guys live well beyond their means, even for how much money they make. It's why so many professional athletes go broke not too long after they retire. The players with families, yea, they live out in the NJ suburbs, but the single ones who like to live it up and party, I'll bet they live in NYC proper
-
I'd move to Bozeman, Montana before NYC But I also just can't stand NYC, it's way too busy and loud, just not my kind of city (and I'm no country bumpkin, just hate the craziness that is NYC). But in regards to Williams himself, I'm glad we didn't match that contract, as I said numerous times before he signed anywhere, his style of game, combined with injury risk and contract demands, just aren't a good fit for where we are as a franchise right now. Like I said a week ago, if we was willing to take a cheap 7-10 million deal to come here for a year, then yea, it was probably worth it, but not at $15 million, it could be used much better elsewhere, or even not at all and roll it over into next year's cap.

I don’t consider QB’s to be “weapons” in that sense Basically I mean that in regards to non QB’s, as in the “weapons at a QB’s disposal” I think there is an argument to be made for Tyreek there, but CMC’s versatility gives him the edge in my book
-
CMC isn't any other elite RB, he's the best weapon in the NFL, there's a reason he won offensive player of the year. I'd bet at least a dozen teams would be willing to give up their 1st round pick for him, especially if it was the same contract situation at the time of the trade, as we had to take the hit on his signing bonus that we already paid out, there was not much guaranteed money (if any) left on CMC's deal when the 49ers took him on. It was a TERRIBLE trade, no if's, and's, or but's about it
-
We got market value because they only looked at it as the numbers standpoint from the draft chart, but half those picks were never going to pan out, and the best pick was at the end of the 2nd round Never should have traded CMC for anything less than a 1st, he’s the best weapon in football. Mid to late round draft picks isn’t going to replace that, we needed 1 impact player in return if we were going to trade him at all (which we shouldn’t have).

Unless you can land a legit difference making TE, it's not a good position to spend decent FA money on or you end up with situations just like Hurst
-
The problem is with how bad Bryce's rookie season looked, you literally can't bring in competition like those guys, particularly Fields or Howell as they both should start over Bryce. But given the trade and taking him #1, they're forced to go into this season with him as the undisputed starter and ride it out all year if he's healthy. Even if you said he was the starter and picked one of those two up, there's no way you could justify keeping them on the bench if/when Bryce sucks again. We can draft his replacement or go after a type of guy like that next offseason, but unless we straight up moved on from him and traded him, we're stuck with Bryce and have to put everything behind him as our guy this year. And if we end up with the #1 pick next year and there isn't a clear elite prospect, don't force the pick like we did with Bryce, either trade it or take an elite talent at another position. We're not 1 or 2 years away from being legit contenders unless Bryce pulls a miracle and becomes an above average QB immediately next year. Build this up the right way, not knee jerk reactions and reaches

The counterpoint is that Williams has outstanding hands and with his size, he would be able to make a lot of short contested catches for Bryce as well. But yes, his specialty is those big downfield plays, basically Bryce’s biggest weakness. That plus his injury history makes me not thrilled at the idea of giving him a multi year big cap hit contract. But he’s from South Carolina and went to Clemson, if he wants to come home on a cheap deal for a year, I won’t be upset at taking the chance. Just don’t sign him to a 3 year $45-50 million contract, which is what I’d figure he’ll end up getting from someone.
-
Not like Bryce has the arm to take advantage of what Williams can do downfield again, I think Williams is a beast, I just don’t think the contract it will take to sign him is worth the risk for where this franchise is right now. He’s a high risk, high reward signing, that’s what contending teams go after, not ones in our state of a rebuild.
-
Have to learn from Burns Pay him before the season starts and maybe even a slight overpay, as in 2 years it will be a bargain
-
The first was that Morgan apparently liked a post about going after Williams and the latest was that we're brining him in for a visit.
-
I've had him in fantasy for at least 3 of his seasons so far, maybe even a 4th, so I've tracked him week by week a lot. Elite talent and a super tough guy as he is able to gut it out and play even when injured, but far too often he ends up not being a useful player on the field because of it. If he was willing to sign a cheap 1 year prove it deal to try and bank in next season, then I'm all for signing him. But I have a feeling someone out there is going to offer a multi year deal at $10+ a season, actually thought he was going to go to KC before they went and got Hollywood, that would have been a great fit. I'd rather go after Gallup, who while he's also had similar injury issues as Williams, he'll probably come at half the price, thus making the risk far easier to swallow than what Williams could be, which is a an oft injured big cap hit.
-
The downside is we spend $10 million a year or more on a WR who can’t stay healthy I pointed it out in another thread the other day, you can’t look at his games played as an indicator of his health, as he’s long been unable to finish games and/or used as a decoy because he was banged up. Removing his rookie season and this past year when he got hurt in the 3rd game, he’s played about 75 career games and had 2 or fewer catches in I think it was 26 of them. And that’s because of how often he can’t finish games or because he was mostly used as a decoy. He’s a GREAT player when healthy, problem is he rarely is
-
Future picks are generally viewed at a value of 1 round worse than they actually are in trades, especially when the pick they’re getting is the 1st pick of the 2nd round nobody is making the trade right now, but I think that’s a very realistic trade after the 1st round is over as they’d be doing it to get a specific player they wanted and fell out of the 1st
-
Love knowing that we'll have almost 24 hours of teams to throw offers our way if a player they really want falls out of the 1st. At the same time, there are always players that fall out of the 1st who shouldn't have, and we have so many holes, have to think there will be someone there we really want. But if the right player falls out of the first and it's not someone we want/need, let's get some teams into a bidding war, I can see some teams putting out a great offer for it if they want to move up for a QB and don't want to get jumped. My ideal would be someone's 2024 2nd and 2025 1st for 33 and then depending how far that fall is in the 2nd, a 4th or 5th rounder. Maybe the Vikings or Raiders want to move up for a QB that fell out of the first, they sit at 42 and 44 in the 2nd. I'd give them 33 and say the 5th we got from the Burns trade for their 2nd and next year's 1st.
-
I know Allen has had some injury issues and is getting up there in age, but he’s still pretty darn good and they only got a 4th for him? That’s an odd one to me, feels like the Chargers got taken in that trade
-
Because they thought they were drafting an AJ clone with the pick they got for him Which if he panned out, actually would have been a really smart trade, it just didn't work out for them.
-
So, 3 of our signings last offseason Plus we won't bring back Chark, made a terrible trade for the #1 pick, made a terrible selection with that #1 pick, and fired the coach we hired. Last offseason is just looking better and better
-
Looking at his games played is not a good way of judging his health, as the Chargers have had a history in recent years of playing him while not fully healthy and using him mainly as decoy knowing he wasn't able to do what he normally does. He also has a history of being able to play in games but get pulled early because he gets banged up, but is able to get back out there the following week at less than 100%. Remove his rookie season where he was barely used and this past season when he got hurt in the 3rd game and he's played 75 career games, but has 26 games with 2 or less catches out of those 75 (the number goes way up if you use his rookie season where he barely played). And unlike someone like Jeudy who I was strongly against, who put up bad stat lines because he just isn't that good, most of those games where he only had 1 or 2 catches were because he was out there more as a decoy due to being banged up. He's someone who if we were a contending team, yea, I'd be all for throwing a sizable contract at him and hoping he can stay healthy and put us over the top. But since we're not, the contract it will take to sign him is too big of a risk for a team that needs to use it's money to build a base, not find a final piece to the puzzle. He's a great player when healthy, and kudos to him for being a tough guy who can at least suit up when he's banged up, but he's just an injury prone player.
