Eh, nice thought, but not really logical lol If Reich is successful enough as our coach to be here until he retires, which would probably 10-12 years away, then neither of the new coordinators (and likely Stately as well) will be here for that long, they'd have already gotten HC jobs long before then.

LOL Is this a serious comment? There is a "long history of very successful sub 6 foot QBs"?!?!??! Frank Tarkenton, Theismann, Brees, and Vick were all 6 foot, Wilson is 5'11", and then there is Kyler. You're not going to find many/any other good QB's who were that short, there being a small handful of them over the 50+ year history of the NFL is literally the exact opposite of a "long history of very successful sub 6 foot QBs" Especially when you take into account all the great college QB's who were that short but couldn't become elite QB's in the NFL, the odds are extremely stacked against Young ever being an elite QB. People keep pointing to guys like Brees and using him as an example of why Young can/will be successful. Which while it's fair to use him as an example of a short QB who was great, but c'mon now, every draft there are QBs who are tall and don't live up to their pre-draft expectations. To try and say Young can be good because of ONE player who was great and his size, is just a fools errand. That's the equivalent of saying the chances of Young being great is 1 in however many QB's have been drafted in the last 20 years, which is not very good.

Good Article on potential OC target Brian Johnson
tukafan21 replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
This... it's been long known that he doesn't get along with a lot of people, and that's disregarding the multiple legal issues he's had in his past. Just the fact that he's the OC of one of the best QB's of all time and the two of them don't get along is a massive red flag. Mahomes is widely known as a great person and he doesn't like Bieniemy and has shown his disgust with him on the field many times, that is something that can't be discredited when looking for a new HC. There have been numerous black OC/DC hires as HC in the years since Bieniemy has been a legit candidate for HC jobs, so you can't use the excuse that it's race related and that's why he's been passed over. Hell, even his own alma mater of Colorado passed on the chance to hire him a few years back when he made it clear that he wanted the job. -
Legit wouldn't make the trade if they gave him to us for a conditional 7th round draft pick. He's injury prone and only an average passer who is going to want a fully guaranteed contract that pays him as the top QB in the league, HARD PASS Whatever team signs him to a long term deal, whether it is the Ravens or someone else, is basically guaranteeing they won't contend for a SB for the length of the contract plus 3-5 years after it as they struggle to deal with the cap implications and finding a new QB.

If he wanted to build a QB from scratch, the move would be to follow his OC to Indy as they will be drafting a better QB prospect than we could LOL -
Ugh, was just looking at that new rule, he might be TOO good of a hire for us to take advantage of it lol. The coach needs to be a DC/OC for you for 2 years before getting a HC job for you to get the draft picks, so if he gets an HC job next year, we get nothing unfortunately.
-
What an amazing hire this is, guy was a hot HC candidate who had a really good defense last year. Also means when he likely gets an HC job in the next couple of years, we'll get a solid draft pick when that happens too (think you get a 3rd rounder when a minority coordinator of yours gets an HC job).

Would you take Eric sleeping with Bieniemy as OC?
tukafan21 replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
HELLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOO It's been pretty clear/known for a while that he doesn't get along with his players and he keeps getting passed over for HC opportunities, likely for that reason alone, as you don't go from being "a top HC candidate" for that many years and just never got a HC job for no reason (and no, him being black isn't the reason). Just the fact that his alma mater of Colorado passed over him multiple times, despite him making it clear he was interested in the job, is a massive red flag in itself. There's clearly things known about him privately that have kept him from getting an HC job by now, so why in the world would we want to bring him in when we're about to draft and coach up a young QB? If he can't get along with Mahomes, he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a rookie QB, talk about a great way to ruin a player before he even gets started. -
Panthers Social Team is having too much fun

SOOOOO much easier to eat Particularly for someone like me, with a couple fake front teeth thanks to sports incidents as a kid. Have a fake tooth on the top and bottom in the front, so always been very cautious about eating things off the bone out of fear of breaking them. So flats are by far the way I prefer to go with wings, easy to just break them apart and minimize/remove the risk of biting into the bone for me haha -
lol that Bears would hang up on Fitt if he actually offered them this The Bears just traded away Smith because they didn't want to give him a massive contract while in a re-build, why would they take Burns knowing they'd need to give him basically that same type of contract when they could just get a whole bunch of picks from someone else and draft players on rookie deals in the first for a few years.
-
I can't see any scenario where they'd trade the 1st pick to us for anything less than our first and both seconds this year, plus our next 2 firsts at a minimum, possibly more on top. That's WAY too much to give up for any of these QB's in the draft this year. We have way too many holes that are still needed to be filled and that's 3 starters just from this year's draft we'd be giving up there. If there was more of a sure thing in this year's class it would be different, but there isn't. We fill out those holes this year, maybe take Hooker in the 3rd, and then trade any possible draft pick as necessary next year to move up for a better QB prospect draft.
-
But hiring Saturday wouldn't be anything that someone could say "they passed over a qualified minority candidate to hire an unqualified Saturday" since you could literally say the same thing about all their white candidates as well. Saturday is just the worst possible candidate from any race of their candidates, so not like this hire would cause any issues for Irsay in that sense.
-
Is he though? Some sort of sexual harassment allegations wouldn't surprise me, but the guy did hire Tony Dungy who won then a SB and then followed him up with Jim Caldwell who also took them to a SB appearance.
-
Imagine thinking I was making a serious comment about a team already trying to tank in 2023 and not a fun joke about how bad Saturday was as a coach this year
-
Intentionally tanking next years team to go for Caleb Williams? honestly can’t think of any other sane reason to be even considering him.
-
Yea, but they already had their QB on the roster
-
Stay where we are, if one of the top 3 QB's fall to us you take them. If not, you go WR, DE, CB, LB in some order with those first 4 picks, fill out the roster, then trade as many future first, second, and third round picks as needed to move up next year in a much better/deeper QB class. Get the team in place, then get the QB on the rookie contract. If we make the trade this year, we'll have the QB too early, before the team is fully built out and then we'll still have too many roster holes while we have the cheap rookie QB contract. Unless one of the top 3 QB's falls to us at 9, there's no good way to do both this offseason.
-
No This team still has too many holes to give up that many picks to move up for a guy that isn't anything close to a sure thing, particularly with how deep next year's QB class is. If one of the top 3 falls to us, or if we can move up a couple of picks without giving up our 2nd's this year or 1st next year, then you do that. But anything else just isn't worth it with this class, next year should have at least 2 if not 3 QB's who would be rated above any QB in this year's draft, and another couple who would all challenge to be top 10 picks this year. I'd so much rather fill our holes this year, then next year trade away multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks as needed to move up for a much better QB prospect.

This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.
tukafan21 replied to ncguy2184's topic in Carolina Panthers
The biggest problem with the Skip rant was that he said the leaders on the team should basically boycott playing over it. The guy couldn't even be bothered to find out that the team leaders already came together and made a statement of support for the hire, that they loved Wilks, but understood the football reasons of the hire of Reich. That's it, it's over, there should be zero media or fan backlash anywhere once that was put out there. The whole (and really only) argument people were able to make for Wilks was that the team wanted him the most. So if the leaders are then coming out with a "we get why we went with an offensive coach instead" statement so quickly, it never should have been a story. -
I'm still of the belief that unless one of the top 3 falls to us, we re-sign Darnold for another year or find another patch for this season and then trade whatever is necessary next year to move up for a QB. Or actually, I'd still draft Hooker in the 4th this year and let him and Corral battle it out next year to see if either has potential to be the guy. Next year's QB class is supposed to be significantly better than this year, if we're going to be trading multiple future first rounders, there isn't a QB in this year's draft that feels safe enough to do that for, there are multiple in next year's draft that it would be worth the risk for.
-
VERY hard pass Zero interest in Fields, he’s an even worse passer than Lamar and will want a huge contract after next year. I’ve said from the start that the Bears should trade him and start a new clock on a QB contract extension with one with better passing upside, but that’s also why I wouldn’t want us to take him on.

I have no issue with a re-tread, so the whole "didn't win a SB at their first stop" thing doesn't bother me at all. And just because something is rare, doesn't mean it isn't something to strive for. The most successful coaches are with their teams for 10+ years, so why would we not want to shoot for that? It would be like saying, sure, I could make a million dollars this year if I really try for it, but not a lot of people do that, so I'm going to settle for an average salary this year instead. It might get you by for the year, but you're not going to be living your best life. This is the NFL, if you don't compete for SB's, then you're not doing well enough, nobody wants to be an above average team every year, you want to win championships. And I just don't see Reich as the hire to win championships, it's the hire to compete for division titles, hardly something to get excited over.
-
And all 3 of them have constant rumors about them considering retirement after almost every season. It's also pretty rare for coaches to still be doing it into their 70's as well, not to mention those are 3 coaches who have all won SB's as HC's. Your'e really trying to compare Reich to 3 sure fire HOFers?!?!?! C'mon now
-
I'm sorry, but that's a REALLY bad plan. Those young assistants that are being groomed to be HC's keep getting hired within 2, maybe 3 years of them getting the OC job. The odds of us being successful enough that we have one of those coaches at the time Reich is ready to step down is pretty low. Plus... we're literally turning down said groomed young OC's to hire the stop gap now... why not just skip the stop gap and go for someone who helped launch Herbert's career when he had questions coming out of college about being ready and helped shut down any questions about Hurts being a legitimate starter in the league as well!?!?! In the last 4 years he has literally taken 2 QB's who were not sure fire NFL starters and helped turn one into an MVP candidate and another who is likely better but had a lot of injuries around them this year and still had a great season. In the end, I just can't get on board with the idea of hiring someone of his age when we're not already in a win now mode. Why are we wanting to hire someone with the idea of then drafting a young QB who we'd hope will play longer than the coach will still be coaching?!?!?

Reich is 61, Steichen is 37... don't tell me Reich was "literally Steichen 5 years ago" when 5 years ago Reich was still almost 20 years older than Steichen is right now. Steichen was an OC when he was 34, Reich wasn't an OC until his mid 50's. So sure, Reich was an OC on a SB winning team, but that still gives Steichen a 20 year head start over him right now, and could get that same SB this year. Literally that's all you need to say for me to not like Reich over Steichen. Why are we hiring someone who has max 10 years left in their career?!?! It's one of my biggest issues with the idea of Payton as well. You hire Steichen and things go well, we don't need to look for a new HC for at least 20 years. I thought Tepper wanted to be more like the Steelers, well the Steelers have only had what, 3 coaches in the last 60 years or something?
