  1. Did some more volunteering loading helicopters this morning at the Hickory airport. Hardly any helicopters running through this morning and it was pretty slow so we headed back to Raleigh.
  2. Loaded military and personal helicopters all day at Hickory regional. Talked with both sides for the first time and what you hear IS TRUE. Being close to a running Chinook will make your hair stand. That have one Helicopter just for body recovery. Btw… loading body bags that will likely be filled is a horrible feeling.
  3. Man an App State win vs Marshall today will do a lot for our spirits in the mountains.
  4. No prob! I believe you. Just being out here and seeing this for a week will hurt your mind. Things just stick with you. The only break I had was a meaningless canes game on Wednesday then right back after it. Mother Nature is a bad bitch. Jesus Christ @LinvilleGorgewill tell you. Seeing people put their petty political differences aside and help is inspiring. But seeing the destruction is terrifying. Ive honesty never been more humbled and terrified seeing this destruction live. It makes me disappointed in myself for being pissed at my canes or panthers losing in sports.
  5. By the way, gents and ladies shout out to our huddle people who are on the ground reporting and helping. We’re in this together and we will rebuild.
  6. It’s not false. My friends that were out there earlier in the week reported bodies in trees in the valley, but they could not get to them because the valley was impossible to get to. Also yesterday in certain spots medical people had to leave bodies and trees because they knew they were already dead to help people potentially still in the mud that were alive
  7. The Guard is there hauling tons on tons of dirt. There is the church off to the left that is digging out of a landslide. Outside of that, not sure what can be done. These boulders I saw weigh way more than us combined.
  8. Up here today. I can attest to this Twitter post. If you have a rough supplies, they authorities will escort you. Only 20 minutes outside of Boone, Vilas is a war zone. @LinvilleGorgewhat are you seeing up here today?
  9. Yeah it had to be sat for a little. It’s important this thread stays open because it’s more important than any sports thread. Let’s all keep political stuff out of it and only post stories or links for aid.
  10. @Jon Snowsee my post earlier about people I know that can see bodies from a valley, but can’t get to them. I’ve seen some of the pictures and it’s fuging terrifying. I wish I didn’t see them, but I did.
  11. Guys I want to shift us back from making this too political and to put it in perspective. Today, our friends are helping out past lake lure and sent this…. ”There are bodies hanging from trees in this valley in front of us but there is no way to get down there to get them down right now” How terrible that help can’t even get down there to get folks bodies down from trees because how impassable the terrain still is. Just awful.
  12. @LinvilleGorge pretty interesting video here on the topic of 1916. Pretty much the pre-conditions were perfect. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAork9Xpb2R/?igsh=MXNndGdybjFzMmZlag==
  13. A lot of these types of people are actually my family back home and I will tell you they are some of the absolute toughest people on the planet. Country Strong is a real thing.
  14. You boys just take of yourselves and your family. We got you. Heading that way tomorrow to load more trucks and helicopters at HRA.
  15. People in the crowd are total assholes. Got in early to save seats. In General Admission, you can’t do that with people outside. Total Karen’s getting pissed becasue they are told to give their seats up. Very disappointed in the shitshow. Next year they need to assign seats.
  16. However guys, I’m done debating if people should have known or not. Up to almost 100 bodies found today. We must pray and send local relief or help in anyway possible. These are my family and friends back home and this other stuff is trivial. fug the politicians, we must be NC helping NC.
  17. Again, if this was projected to be this bad, people would have been evacuated. The thing that hurt the most was the week before that got 7-11inches of rain. This one just blew it over. also, @LinvilleGorge check this out, not only does this data suggest this storm was bigger than 1940, but even 1916. This was labeled a 1000 year storm in some spots.
  18. No one knew. You didn’t. I didn’t. Weather people didn’t the locals didn’t. It was a 100 year flood. Those don’t happen every weekend. Trust me if people would have known they wouldn’t have found 50 bodies in the last five hours in Avery county and 200 plus so far.
