Looks that way. But he is a journalist who has watched more Baker than most of us. We'll see. Should be interesting.

So why hasn't Baker won a SB? 1)Starting point-The Browns were 1-31 leading to Baker playing his first game in game 3. After 2 losses that season, the team is down by 14 when Tyrod gets hurt and Baker comes in to win the game. 2)Coaching- Jackson, Williams and Kitchens were not going to win a SB. 2)Defense ranked 21st,20th,21st and 13th 3) Injury- Baker tore his labrum, broke the bone in the shoulder, and injured his plant foot in 2021. Many analysts said he shouldn't be playing. It took Cam 4 years to make it to the SB from the 2014's "worst division in football" in 2015. The question should be, did Baker elevate the team? Up until injury, the answer was yes.

https://stormininnorman.com/2022/07/07/carolina-panther-acquire-former-sooner-star-qb-baker-mayfield/ How does Mayfield fit with the Carolina scheme? Carolina offensive coordinator Ben Mcadoo runs an offense that resembles the West Coast system, which also adds in tons of run-pass-option and other modern wrinkles. He also loves to dial-up well-timed deep-ball opportunities. He employs mostly three-step drop and quick release for a QB. This means a lot of pre-snap answers, and quick post-snap reads. This fits great for Baker Mayfield, who is at his best when he can flip it and rip it. He has a quick release and a strong arm. This system is the best fit for Mayfield on paper than any system he has played under since entering the NFL. Better yet, the personnel when it comes to catching the ball is also vastly improved. Mayfield will finally get a WR1, that he never had in Cleveland with WR D.J. Moore and a deep threat and true WR2 in Robby Anderson. Mayfield had Jarvis Landry and mismatched parts to throw to in Cleveland. Odell Beckham was often injured and was also clearly no longer the player he once was in New York. Mayfield during his career has thrived in 11-personnel, which will be the common grouping for the Panthers, and when you add in the pass-catching ability of RB Christian McCaffery, there will be easier passes to complete in this system that has a chance for quality value. It is also worth noting McAdoo was the offensive coordinator for the Giants when future Hall of Fame QB Eli Manning threw 30 or more TDs two the three times in his career. Final thoughts The saga is finally over, and Mayfield will have an opportunity to continue his career as an NFL QB. Mayfield appeared to be ascending before a torn labrum among other injuries derailed his 2021 season. The Browns were punished from a value perspective waiting as long as they did to make the move, and the Panthers get the 2017 Heisman winner for basically a four-piece chicken nugget happy meal. Mayfield is now the odds-on favorite to win comeback player of the year in the NFL, and a playoff berth should be the expectation now for the Panthers who have a solid, young roster.

Yeah. They don't have a great track record.

Darnold had his audition last year. Mayfield is the starter. The rest is theatrics. I bet we started making plans for Mayfield as soon the Browns entered the Watson sweepstakes. It pissed Baker off as much is it did Ryan. Even if the Browns didn't land Watson, Mayfield may be in play. We signed Rashard Higgins WR from the Browns March 16h. Watson announced his deal with the Browns on March 17th. We've been negotiating for Mayfield since at least the draft in April. Drafting a QB gave us another option and some leverage in negotiations. We'll see what Mayfield's got. Mayfield is starting week 1 vs the Browns.

Yeah it was eye opening for me. Lets hope they didn't ruin him like RR did to Cam.

Maybe. 4 Man Rush changed my mind. Take 10 minutes and listen to someone who knows a lot more about Baker than we do. https://youtu.be/jIlLzLpEE3Y?t=572

It was a fncking catch.

Actually you just don't like the plan. If Hurney was still here, we'd be finishing up Teddy's contract this year. Fits plan is the same as Seattle's: keep throwing QB's at the wall until you find one. Teddy was OK, but we felt he couldn't get us there. Sam was a stinker. Cam is done, unfortunately. Now we're trying Baker. It is a rocky road and hard on fans, and it is a very unconventional plan but it has had success at our GM's previous stop which is why it is happening here. We also drafted a rookie to see if somethings there. I was against the Baker trade, but its done. He has potential, and I'm not sure he won't become elite. He's not perfect, but had a better rookie year than Allen.
-
The alternative was to throw a 3rd round rookie to the wolves. This is the superior plan.
-
Yeah. I do that. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/comebacks_active.htm Anyway Baker is at 1.5 4th qtr combacks a year. That is the same as Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz. Of course its a lot better than Teddy and Sam. Baker is his worst in the 4th quarter. That doesn't mean he doesn't win games there.
-
Baker's fall off occurs in the 4th quarter. That doesn't mean he doesn't have any 4th qtr comebacks. He does. He has 6. It looks like 2-3 a year is a good benchmark, so he's a bit south of that.

I'm done dealing the Joe Brady lovers for today until the next Joe Brady love thread is started. Its like a psychosis. Go on, love you some Joe Brady.

I see 7 winnable games: Browns (wo Watson),2x Atlanta, Seattle, Giants, Steelers, Lions I'm not saying we're going to win those 7, but it isn't unreasonable that we can beat those teams. We need a 2 upsets among these to make the playoffs: 2xSaints, 9ers (w/essentially rookie QB), Cards, Broncos, Ravens Its very improbable from this vantage, though not impossible. It would help if Lance stinks and the Saints take a hit without Payton. If we get 2020 Mayfield, we could be pretty good.
-
Why were his stats worse here than the Jets? Hey let me guess, Matt Rhule messed him up.
-
Just like a Panthers fan. Highlight the worst games and then discard the best games. Nicely done. I expect you to be promoted to mod anytime. You'll see. The rushing D will probably be mid range again, because we haven't made a ton of changes. You'll highlight the bad games and discard good ones, even though every single team has them. Its why we look at the aggregate.
-
Depends on which Baker we get. If we get 2019 or 2021 Baker, then we are looking at 4-6 wins. If we get 2018 or 2020 Baker, we're looking at north of 7 wins. It looks like sacks mess with his play. He was sacked over 40 times in 19 and 21. If we keep the sack #s in the 20's his play is pretty good. He can handle pressure. His highest pressure rate was 2018, a good year for him. It looks like he just can't take the hits, which might explain his 4th quarter decline as well. I think OL play and injuries are going to be key this year.
-
Depends which Mayfield we get, 18/20 or 19/21.
-
Its true the first 3 games we allowed 40ish yards rushing a game which was excellent. We weren't the only ones to play those teams. Is everybody supposed to subtract out their best games from their averages? Why do Panther fans want to subtract good games out the aggregate and provide lame ass excuses for their opponents? We held 5 teams after that under 100 yards including the Saints and Bucs in the last two games of the season and the Eagles, another play off team. If you keep your opponent under 100 yards rushing a game, you're typically top 10 rushing D. Now I'm not saying we were top 10. I'm saying we weren't "absolute ass".
-
Run D was 18th in total yards and 8th in yards per attempt last year. I'm not saying it's awesome, but it wasn't absolute ass. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/opp.htm
-
Maybe. I'm guess I'm just excited for a top 10 accurate deep ball. Some analysts believe Baker can't handle that volume. That it takes to much out him, which is why he did well in the balanced attack Stefanski ran.

But I did it. Why would you ask me to provide links to prove something you said? You asked for links to prove what I said. And I did. Prove your own statements.
