The huddle has reached the point where pointing out that Rhule beat Rivera two years ago compels derision. Its sad.

I didn't say Matt Rhule is a good NFL coach. You stating that I said that is

And you are an expert on bitter. -
Yeah. I hate it when people come on a Panthers message board and say good things about the team.
-
That'll do.

He changed his contract?
-
I wouldn't use that as a measuring stick. We kicked his ass the year before with a D of rookies, TB at QB, no CMC, Trent Scott at LT, and a rookie Matt Rhule as HC ....in Washington. We've swapped games.

What would it take for you to be a fan of Rhule and Tepper?

So which scenario are you describing?: 1)Sam's agent was too meager to ask for the 5th year option during the trade talks. 2)No one even discussed the trade with Sam and his agent. He found out on twitter. 3)Sam's agent asked for us to pick up the option. We said no, and then turned around and picked it up anyway. -

Fitt was a rookie GM, and the new kid on our block and his first deals were Erving and Elflien. He knew Hurney was gone because he headbutted Rhule, probably on this very thing. I'm not saying Fitt is of equal blame. He's not. This is Rhules fnckup. I'm saying Fits not blameless. -

It was a Rhule blunder for sure, but Fit isn't blameless. Hurney would have never done the trade for Sam, and it may be part of the reason Hurney is gone. Given that the savings are so small and their constant theme of "competition at every position", it doesn't make sense to do the option to make Sam feel good. They want Baker to feel pressure, but need to baby Sam? Sam had to request it, as anyone would. They promised it when they traded to get the deal done. They didn't exercise it until after the draft because they wanted to trade down and were head-faking taking a QB. Some of us actually thought they might. Even if it didn't work out, 12mil a year for even a backup qb isn't going to break the bank. It all backfired in their faces because Sam was actually better with Jets. -

In 2021 we paid Darnold 5 mil and this year we pay him 19 mil. I think their logic was 24 for 2 years or 12 million a year for a starting QB was a good deal. Who knew he would be worse for us than the jets? I know Darnold didn't have a ton of leverage, but I would think that he would have requested we pick up the option as condition for the trade. -

No. I didn't say that. We were discussing whether or not someone would be dumb enough to take Darnold. You said you wouldn't bet on that. I wasn't saying our QB choices are "pretty good". I was saying there's a lot of stupid in the NFL. I agree with the rest of your post. Between Cam and Mayfield there has been a lot of stupid. -
I haven't heard much about Higgins in camp, but he had wr2 numbers in Cleveland with Baker in 2018 and 2020, Bakers best years.

You mean like when the Broncos took Teddy, the WFT took Allen, or we took Mayfield for a future conditional 5th? Seattle traded away Wilson and looks like they're running with Lock. Atlanta swapped Ryan for Mariota this off season. -

I think so too. We've gotten low picks and cap relief for poor performers before. That said, I think they also wanted the side by side to confirm what they already knew, that Baker is better, and has recovered from his injuries. -
This guy is probably going to make a big difference this year, even if CMC stays healthy.

We were 8th in rushing yards allowed per attempt at 4.1 yards. The whole league sucks at stopping the run. We faced the 2nd most defensive drives and yet saw 2nd fewest pass attempts on our D. I believe that played a role in our low TO count as well. Ioannidis for Jones appears to be a wash. Wilson should be better than Carter against the run, and Matos should be better than Fox against the run and in pass rush. Luvu was good last year against the run, but he can't pass rush anything like Reddick. Pasqualoni has a lot more experience in the NFL coaching lineman than Okam (from Baylor). In general, I think teams are going to pass more if we don't do something to replace Reddick. I do agree, that the Browns are going to run and run in game 1 tho.

We'll see. CJ was real bad last year. He didn't look like a top 10 draftee at all. I'm glad to hear he's improving. As for the picture, I didn't know he smiled.
-
I know right. Some people just want to attack our QB's regardless who they are.
-
I think our media department cannot or do not want to have us showing interest in guys we didn't get. If you look Rhule is continuing his list but its clipped. The only reason Hoskins made the show was because we got him later.
-
When did Corral play D? You and I know that doesn't mean he's crowned. It means he has chance to earn is spot. He has to beat the guys in front of him, and he might. Sheesh.

Even on a per game basis, Baker was superior in college. As for tough opponents, Baker carved up Georgia in the Rose Bowl. Georgia entered the game allowing just 13.2 points and 270.9 yards per game, 4th nationally in each category. The Sooners gained 360 yards and led 31-17 at halftime. Mayfield threw for 287 yards, two touchdowns, and caught a touchdown pass that gave the Sooners a 17-point lead with 6 seconds left in the first half. They lost 54-48 in double OT, but it wasn't because of the O, or Baker. Corrall has skill. He'll probably become a really good QB, and he may be our long term answer. Lets see him in a preseason game before we "crown his ass."

I wouldn't say setting the rookie TD record while playing only 13.5 games is "failing". I wouldn't say a career 68 TDs to 3 interceptions in he RZ as "failing". After the 2018 season, Baker was considered by some the best QB in the class. Right after the 2020 they were comparing him to Burrow: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/joe-burrow-vs-baker-mayfield-whos-leading-your-new-nfl-franchise/ He had an injury riddled season last year behind an decimated OL that allowed him to be sacked more than Darnold and yet he still put up better numbers than Sam, including 8 more touchdowns. How many games did we lose by 1 score?

To make matters worse, Smith was chosen by KC with OUR 6th round pick. The Jets traded the 6th we gave them for Sam to KC. KC used it for Smith. That said the entire NFL passed on Smith 6 times and Fitt isn't blameless here. Fitt is the one who raved about Deonte, our Smith alternative:https://youtu.be/JMtSvMy5Vdo?t=1835 Fitt is also the one who chose to get the LS in the 6th: https://youtu.be/JMtSvMy5Vdo?t=1863
