Derek Wright the WR getting the most love from BY today
poundaway replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Carolina Panthers
He has a tough path to make the team, let a lone get snaps and receptions. -
As I said, we have invested little in the D "player-wise". Yes Evero was a great grab. We will see how much of Denver D was the players and how much was Evero. We actually haven't signed a contract with Burns. As I said. Afterthought. The Brian Burns contract should have been sewed up by now. He now holds all the cards as we passed up attractive offers. We didn't draft D until the bottom of the 3rd for, what many analysts and fans here consider to be an older player who "needs development".

I agree that the coaching and QB situation were a dumpster fire. A rookie from the bottom of the second round, coming off an injury in college that sidelined him an entire year where he was WR#3 to begin with, is not going to be a barn burner and take snaps from two 1k NFL WRs out of the gate in a season that itself had injury. He was going to be eased in on any team, even DJ's worst season was his rookie and his yards jumped 50% from rookie to sophomore season. TMJ's drop rate was over 6% last year. Hopefully that will improve.

We'll see who the WR1 is. The thoughts on the D resonated with me. We are "a couple injuries away from nightmare status". The D was NOT good last year. We invested little in it, player wise, and are moving to a new scheme. We have an offensive minded HC so that is what is getting the love. D feels like an after thought at ATM.

Has this been posted elsewhere? https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/04/05/panthers-rb-chuba-hubbard-ncaa-antitrust-lawsuit/ Hope he doesn't sue us when he moves on.

Uhh, this phrasing is misleading, and apparently intentionally. Thielen played 17 games last season. A full season. He missed 4 games in 21, 1 game in 20, and 6 games in '19. Those are all the games he's missed since '14. Its no accident he chose 4 years because Thielen didn't miss a game '14-'18 and then of course he didn't miss a game last year. Thielen has his faults, but injuries aren't one of them.

I think they were saying that Shenault was the defacto #1 when Moore left before we got Theilen and Chark. I agree that TMJ was probably WR#1 tho.

I cringe when I see him there on 3rd down. He blocks at his size and I still don't trust his hands. I'd rather he be there on 1st and let Sanders be there on 3rd. Or better yet, get another back to share the load with Sanders and Chuba doesn't see the field unless someone gets hurt.
-
Meh. He's a mid sized to small back with stone for hands and an average to to slightly above average runner. His drop% was at the very bottom of the league his rookie season. Last year it improved but he fumbled two kickoffs in one game which resulted in a L. Mrs. Rhule was wrong.

So we traded for Laviska right before the season last year and when he got touches, he was pretty impressive. He had the highest pff on the team, I believe last year, for what its worth.

Some of the pressures go to the OC who was replaced. The Bears now have a defensive minded HC, and an unproven OC. In any event, the Bears offense will continue to struggle if they continue to take longer than 3 seconds to throw. Fix that problem, and you will see how much of the blame truly belongs on the line.
-
Seriously, you're going to use pff 2022 PRESEASON rankings to say the Bears line was bad? LOL Look, I'm not arguing that the Bears line was great. It wasn't. What I'm saying is some of the pressures were because Fields was taking to long to throw for whatever reason. DJ didn't fix that here, and it he won't fix it there.
-
The Bears OL had one of the longest pocket times in the NFL. Fields had the 4th longest time to throw in the league, just behind Wilson and Sam Darnold. The Bears high pressure% can not clearly be placed entirely on the OL. Fields is not getting rid of the ball fast enough, either because the WRs aren't open, Fields can't/won't throw in tight windows, the offense itself is poorly designed, Fields is hesitating or some combination. In any event, DJ Moore, is a good WR, but he's is not going to fix those.

No.... Stop with the facts! It doesn't fit with my world view!

Did the Saints have the cash for Carr?
