  1. What if....... We still add to the QB room???? Jimmy G gets released as a courtesy? Baker for a 2028 7th round pick at 50% of his salary? Remember.... we still have 30M in cap space. Does all 30M minus rookie contracts roll over to next year?
  2. Desmond Ritter is either going to be a Marcus Mariota or Dak Prescott 2.0. I'm thinking more like Dak, but the Falcons are going to get him killed with their drafting.
  3. I'm going to quote myself from 7 hours ago...... These next 5 picks after Ritter will tell the story. Still Team Minshew. If not I'd go after both Baker and Corral. JMO
  4. Everyone who talks about trading Robbie, DJM, CMC, or anyone else that has just restructured their contracts had NO CLUE how the salary cap works. When we decided to re work Robbie's contract we basically guaranteed his spot for this year and possible next. Trading him or cutting him in 2023 would cost 19.8 million before June 1st. With a negative cap savings of 9 million. Trading DJM would result in a negative cap hit of nearly 14 million and a dead cap charge of 19 million. CMC trade would be 26million in dead cap and a 2022 negative charge of 17 million. I'm a teacher, not an accountant, but I don't think that's good business. Baker, Jimmy, or a trade for Minshew are the only real options unless one of these QB's falls into the third round or if we feel that we can surrender picks from next year. I say, trade #137 for Minshew, give him a 1 year try out. If that doesn't work, a 6th and Cleveland paying 50% of Baker's salary will suffice. Jimmy G is more than likely going to get cut if a trade doesn't materialize, however with his health eating into his time before training camps, no one is giving up assets for him. SF can save 26 million by cutting him and roll that savings over to next season.
  5. Get the LT! See if Howell is Baker sans the baggage, would not be afraid to draft an additional QB in 2023 Best Edge rusher available, situational, but worth a flyer considering our history of 3rd round picks Clark is a stash for next year. He has borderline first round talent. Ezeudu is guard depth or can challenge BC for LG. Ferguson is a Dalton Shultz/Dawson Knox type. Weatherford has the mesurables to become a LB if he struggles at SS. Worst case, with his measurements and athletic ability he could be a core ST guy. Williams was a great deal, not likely to be around that late in the draft. Didn't even realize that I traded with Atlanta twice. LIkely would never happen, but who knows?
  6. Draft strategy: 1. Neal 2. Icky 3. Trade back, then target 4. Cross 5. Pickett 6. Carrol 7. Z.Johnson/K. Greene If we trade back to the 20's, we should recoup at least a 2nd and 3rd round pick. At that point I would be comfortable with solidifying LG with an actual LG such as Johnson or Green and let BC start at LT. In the 2nd or 3rd look at someone to develop at LT. Someone like Bernhard Raimann or Nicholas Petit-Frere would be a great grab at that point. This would have us solid at RT, RG, and C. Brady has some experience at LT, and a 1st/2nd round LG should not be an issue.
  7. If we are able to get either Icky or Neal in the 1st round I would offer the Iggle's either our 4th round pick #137 and P.J. Walker or next years 4th with incentives to become a 3rd for Gardner Minshew. Worst case, there is legit competition for Darnold, the team may get reinveriratoed by a QB who can actually start in the NFL, and we find what may just be the next Jake Delhomme. 4th round picks are more miss that hit, so I would feel like this would be a great use of the pick.
  8. 4/4/22 Mock Draft: Round 1: Pick 6: Evan Neal Alabama LT - Don't over think it. Build the line and the offense will prevail. Round 4: Pick 137: TRADE!!!!! We offer the Eagles the choice of this pick and P.J. Walker, or next year's fourth that could become a 3rd based on incentives. If I was the Iggle's GM, I'd take the the picks for next year, but I have a feeling they'd take this pick and P.J. Walker. In exchange, we get the MAN, they Myth, the Mustache... Gardner Minshew. Round 5: Pick 144: Isiah Thomas EDGE Oklahoma Pick 149: Micha McFadden LB Indiana Round 6: Pick 199: Logan Brush OL Wisconsin Round 7: Pick 242: Jack Coan QB Notre Dame My personal feeling is that if you get two starters out of a draft it is a success. Neal is the missing piece on our OL. This will allow us to run and pass the ball with more consistency. Minshew should be able to overtake Darnold and provide us with a starting QB for only a 4th round pick. I'll take that all day every day. This also allows us to exercise some control for 2022 QB. If Minshew preforms well, he can be had for Sam Darnold money over 2-3 years, not 40 million a season. If he falters, we will be in position to draft a QB from a much better class AFTER we have filled some major holes on our roster. Coan is a QB who can be developed into a back-up. NFL.com rates both Thomas and Brush very highly, and over the years their observations have been pretty spot on. McFadden is at worst a core special teams player IMO. We leave our 2023 draft capital untouched. We still have lots of cap space to add veterans who have not signed or have been cut after the draft to fill out depth. Additionally, and more importantly, I think a trade for Minshew and creating an open competition would bolster confidence in our QB position across the league and make some players more inclined to sign here.
  9. Not too terrible of a comparison or a bad deal IMO. I'd like to think that Fitt and Morgan can build a better team than the teens Bengals. I'd take 8 years of quality production and not have 50M per year allocated to one player so we can keep a team together. Have we ever made the playoffs for 5 seasons straight?
  10. Looking at the lay of the league, our options are somewhat limited. 1. Draft a LT if the right fit falls to us, and move on from there. Admit that we did not prepare Sam for success last year with out TERRIBLE offensive line and disconnect between coach and OC. If he is a complete bust we are in position to either sign a FA or draft a new QB. Downside: How do we convince players on 1 year deals like Bozeman or other free agents that we are headed in the right direction? I think the downfall of the NFC South will work in our favor so long as we stay ahead of Atlanta and their "rebuild". 2. Trade back for more picks and use those assets to try to trade for competition. Someone like Penning or Bernhard Raimann could be a possibility at LT and maybe we can get one of these QB's in round 2 to develop. Maybe someone else could become available before training camp. 3. Wait out the Jimmy / Baker situation, and see if we can take advantage of the market. Would SF be interested in swapping Jimmy for Sam just for cap relief? How about Baker in Cleveland, at what point does he become a distraction? If there is no market for him wouldn't a swap of nearly exact salaries be beneficial from a PR perspective? Do you think the Browns would eventually cut him now that they hitched their wagon to Watson and Brissett? 4. Draft a rookie this year and have him compete with Darnold. If you are unsure, send Darnold out for the first three games or so until the rookie is ready to take over. 5. Explore Gardner Minshew. I would give up our first 5th round pick for him. Even throw in PJ, or Sam with an offer to pay a good chunk of his salary. That gives Philly a decent backup to Hurts while they get increased returns for Minshew. Philly likely won't keep him after this year anyway as he will be looking for a clearer path to start. Is he serviceable, and allows the team to improve? If so, we can continue to upgrade the roster around him rather than jump head first into 40 million + per year allocated to one position. Overall, I think internally the Panthers need to commit to what they truly expect out of a QB. If the goal is to build up a team around a QB first, they cannot expect to catch a top tier FA or trade for an established player. Relying on the draft is a crap shoot outside of a top ten (realistically top 5) pick. IMO, we need to create a banger of an offensive line and stout defense and rely on a game manager / mid level QB until we can allocate future 1st rounders to be in the position to draft they guy we want. If we have our priority offensive linemen signed to three year or more contracts (while under 30) that's when you make a calculated risk like SF did last year. Personally, I think you draft a LT, and trade for Minshew unless you have a deep, deep, belief that Pickett or Corral can make it in the current offense. We are one year away from a solid OL. Darnold, in my opinion, might be broken. Even in his first three games, he had jumpy feet and never looked fully comfortable behind center. I'd have to re-watch the game tape, but what I remember from him after he came back from injury looked broken. Picket has good footwork, reads the field well, and can hang in a pocket pretty well. I think he peaks at a Kirk Cousins level, which isn't terrible IMO, but may not be more valuable than a stud LT.
  11. Is Howell going to be able to clap in the NFL???
  12. You put Bozeman at center. He was nearly elite. You don't bring a guy in to do what he does 2nd best. Keep your strengths strong and go from there. Patty is merily veteran depth at this point, which is just fine. They will either draft a LG or look at someone else when releases shake out. I still have a sneaky feeling that we may be looking at a pass rusher at #6 depending on how the board falls.
  13. Looking around the league, if you are in the market for a franchise QB, you need to have the cap space available to pay up to $40 million per year. 1 year contracts are necessary to accomplish that. This year I feel we had to lean on free agency more so than others because we have not built up enough depth via the draft and were low on picks. If we get a rookie QB who can play, or get a cheap veteran like Minshew, we will be able to build strength via free agents while developing our draft picks for one more year. Hopefully after that we will be able to hand out more 2nd contracts than FA contracts.
  14. I've been wanting him on this team ever since I say him play the Panthers as a rookie. If we are committed to building a solid O-line, he can sling it. Watch this tape. Notice his demeanor in the pocket under pressure. Look at his footwork as he throws. 10X better than Darnold. I would gladly send pick #149 to the Eagles for him. This would allow snag a top 3 LT, an Edge rusher, or Hamilton at 6. Worst case you have a solid back up when you give him the original round tender after this season. I would take him over Baker, over the cost to get Jimmy G, and any of the rookies in this class.
  15. Robby has never been too good at identifying animals. Cut him a little slack.
  16. Our problem is that we are trying to recruit top quarterbacks who have sway and influence in the decision without providing the support they desire. Honestly, who would willingly stand behind our line before it has been built. It's fairly obvious that fortunes can turn around quickly in the NFL. Keeping Rhule, in my opinion was a mistake. He showed the same level of incompetence that Riviera did his last year. The only thing that makes Rhule's tenure more excusable than the last two years of Ron's tenure is that Ron had a veteran team that clearly under performed. If Tepper has the set he claims to have, he would have already taken Rhule's final say away from him and given it to Morgan and Fitt. I would then read the tea leaves and see if we can move back slightly. I would be OK with giving up on Cross and taking Penning or Tyler Linderbaum with an early mid first round pick if we were able to pick up a second round pick. If we are able to sign a center like Bozeman, we could even consider Bernard Raimann and let him and Brady fight it out to see who is best suited for LT or LG. A line of Moten, Corbett, Bozeman, BC, BR/TP would be more enticing to a QB. Setting us like this would make me feel all right with Cam Irving and Eflin as veteran backups. Any QB coming here would at least feel safe with the updated front 5 and depth. However, signing an expensive FA is not the way to go. I would explore sending a 5th or 4th rounder to Philli for Gardner Minshew or seeing if by trading back we can pick up someone like Carson Strong to compete with Sam and be groomed as a long term backup if we are in a better position to draft a QB in the future. It's a toss up on who is less bad at this point between Cam and Sam. If the draft doesn't work out for a QB, and Cam will play for cheap, I'd consider just eating Sam's cap hit as I cut him and let Cam have one last run with a full offseason.
