  1. I think that is what you are missing, Payton doesn't have to be as good here as he was in New Orleans...if he is half as good as he was, he would still be better than anything we have every had. Not to mention he is a proven commodity vs an unknown up and comer. What gives you the confidence that we wouldn't continue to be a middle of the pack team with any of the other coaches mentioned during this search cycle? Is there one you believe guarantees we will be an above average team? Which by the way, I was all for Johnson but I'm not going to let my hopes and dreams of the next Sean McVay get in the way of see what is directly in front of me.
  2. I guess you have to ask yourself, how many years of mediocrity have we already endured to have nothing to show for it at all. Payton isn't my first choice but I certainly wouldn't be upset with it. He has proven to be a much better coach than we have ever had here; like the person or not, respect his resume
  3. I normally agree with your post but with this one I cannot. I wouldn't say 15 years with one team, a successful 15 years that is, is the type of coach that wants to get in get his ring and get out. Character, at this point I really could care less about their character, I want to care about Carolina Panther football again and for me that means winning.
  4. Sounds like there is interest from Harbaugh as well
  5. Jim Harbaugh has reportedly talked to Panthers about their opening (msn.com) Sorry didn't realize there was another post on this
  6. Hmm that brings up a question because I really don't know. Do we have to wait? For tampering reasons or whatever? Since Wilks is technically interim head coach are we able to reach out before the season ends without breaking any rules?
  7. It may not be just about the money though. He would be inheriting a train wreck. A QB that still calls offensive plays from the Seahawks, who is over paid and currently can't hit the broad side of a barn...on top of that, with a contract that makes him a fixture for the organization for a few years. Competition in the division, especially with what I mentioned above, also makes it unattractive for a coach that will probably have his pick of teams. Money is an object, for sure, but it may not be the only thing he will be looking at
  8. I didn’t even ask, I was shocked that his credits wouldn’t transfer to Liberty so we talked about that for a little bit, then we talked about Tim Beck, apparently he is pretty high on him and we talked about the NFL draft and why he decided on another year of college over declaring for the NFL draft. He is being told he is probably a 4th or 5th round prospect and he isn’t keen on that but still a possibility.
  9. Hey group, wanted to follow up on this because I was wrong and wanted to update you. So last night a close friend of the McCall family was at a New Year’s party my wife and I attended. And @Varking you were right. If he were to transfer to Auburn, the credits that would transfer would make him a sophomore. Florida did reach out to him, and there was interest on his behalf but he would only have the credits for Junior status and believe it or not…the same for Liberty! So according to what was said last night, he is more than likely coming back to Coastal one more year
  10. Apologize on the name. I can't argue with any of your points besides making it at Coastal should look better for his resume than it would at Liberty given what you mentioned above. Coastal is in the process of building new facilities for all of it's sports programs. With the recent success in Baseball, Football, Track, etc there has been an influx of money. As an ACC fan, I really enjoy Sun Belt athletics, underrated in my opinion but man the games are so much fun
  11. Well, P5 schools were in his ear last year but he wanted to finish what he and Jim Caldwell started at Coastal. Jim made a pretty dumb decision to go to Liberty which, in my opinion, is a lateral move as a coach so it left Grayson wondering what to do with his final year he will be playing. Start over with a new coach and hope for the best or take one of the P5 offers where at least he will get more recognition. But you are right, he is a GOD at Coastal. Tim Beck, for everything I've heard about him was a decent OC and has ties to Coastal (his daughter graduated from there) so well see if he comes back, but I can't blame him if he leaves.
  12. Sorry, didn't want you to take it as a pissing match because I respect and enjoy your post. Just saying what the word it close to home. Personally, I hope he comes back to Coastal but I know that isn't in his best interest. I guess we will see how it plays out
  13. Not saying I don't believe you but I've never heard of those guys and not a single mention of that on any of this on any news site; ESPN, SI, CBS, nothing. And I find it hard to believe if that was the case, they would be saying that vs Grayson McCall canceled his meeting. I can tell you this, and probably shouldn't, but one of my very close friends is on the Board of Trustees for USC, the original USC that is; Gamecocks, and as you are probably aware it wasn't so long ago Coastal Carolina was an extended campus of USC. Now, they are separate of course and members of the boards are not mutually exclusive. Thats what I meant by inner circles earlier. I can tell you, according to him, Florida was never on McCalls radar; no trip was ever scheduled and from what he knows, no calls were ever made by either party and there have never been any mention of Florida outside of the media saying it "could" be a potential landing spot. Auburn on the other hand, has sparked his interest, they offered him a scholarship last year and tried to get him to leave Coastal, he opted to stay. I also mentioned that in another thread Auburn was one of 5 P5 schools that tried to get Grayson to leave last year; for everyone saying why is he playing at Coastal besides a P5 school if he is so good, well, he easily could have. I can also tell you that, from what I've heard it is down to 3 schools, one of which being Coastal. He will be visiting Auburn in the next week or two unless Tim Beck can convince him it is worth staying. Now again, I'm not saying you're wrong, this is just what I've heard from someone that don't necessarily have inside information but certainly has connections that do. On top of that, Coastals backup QB is now in Jail, I can't imagine if Coastal was certain McCall was gone, they wouldn't have already found / be looking for another QB....and they're not. And think about this, what possible Major would Coastal Carolina be offering that a school like Auburn isn't? Sounds like some butt hurt SEC homers you're following there
  14. Interesting, first I've heard of that. You would think that would be all over the internet and news but a quick google search gives me nothing. I don't have Twitter, or FB for that matter, because most of that stuff is trash but I guess it is possible just not what the word is around here.
  15. I haven't heard any of that, word on the street down here, a few miles away from Coastal, is that he just postponed the trip to Auburn due to personal reasons and will be visiting in the next week or two. As for Florida, he never wanted to go there, in fact I've heard nothing about Florida mentioned for him. If I had to guess, and I'm just guessing here, he is probably talking with Tim Beck seeing where that goes before going to Auburn. He tweeted out, before the original scheduled visit to Auburn in a round about way not to discredit him coming back to Coastal Grayson McCall Teases Coastal Carolina Return In Cryptic Deleted Tweet (outkick.com) Again, all of that just a guess and what I'm hearing from close circles in the area
  16. Still onboard with McCall. There isn't a clear number 1 QB for me this year. I haven't read through this entire thread so not sure if this has been posted but it's a pretty good writeup. 2023 NFL Draft: Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall’s Draft Outlook - Visit NFL Draft on Sports Illustrated, the latest news coverage, with rankings for NFL Draft prospects, College Football, Dynasty and Devy Fantasy Football.
  17. I've watched a lot of his games this year, not an SC fan but I have buddies that are so we watch. I'm not big on Rattler at all but from what I saw, this year, his OC wasn't helping him early in the year. Most Saturday's we play a game during the game. Every time there is a wide receiver screen pass, we take a drink. Needless to say, a case of beer could be gone by the end of the game. Against Tennessee and Clemson they finally let the kid air the ball out and I have to say, he looked good doing it. The entire year, all I heard from Gamecock fans was they needed to fire the OC.
  18. Using Median instead of Avg is a cleaver way to make statistics say what you want. Remember 97% of all statistics are made up.
  19. As I said in another thread, this is what bad front offices do. There is no way you don’t make that trade. Mr. Scott mentioned earlier that they were running the opposite side of Burns, that’s fine but that’s also the point, there are no complimentary pieces, it does no good to have one All Star, which he isn’t, and the rest are plebs. We are way more than a few pieces away and draft picks would have lets us acquire more potential in all positions.
  20. At the end of last year he actually had offers from several P5 schools and thought about entering the transfer portal and leaving but decided he was going to finish what he started at Coastal
  21. People say the same thing about Spencer Rattler but while it might happen, it shouldn't
  22. Wouldn't put much stock in those predictions, they have Van Dyke as the 7th best QB? Yea...no. I think McCall goes in the 3rd possibly 4th
