I love how smooooooooth Corral's mechanics are, there's no tightness or resistance anywhere.
-
He has 11.5 sacks total across the 3 years he started. This is not some eye popping number, it was well known he did not have a versatile skill set when it came to rushing the QB in the draft. A lot of it was raw power that needed to be refined, like I said, he's still a good player.
-
Absolutely not, he's exactly who he is when we drafted him. A big run stuffer who doesn't have much of a pass rush ability. That kind of DT is never a top 20 pick but we reached a bit there due to fit and need matching up there. If you expected him to be a pass rushing beast and a complete force against the run then you set yourself up for failure the night we drafted him. He is who he is, had somewhat of a disappointing year 2 vs year 1 but he's been fine.

Corral going for more gt'd $ makes sense after injuries he sustained in college, that cost him a few mil too.

2024 Conditional 5th.... yeah that's worth doing 10 out of 10 times. Good job by the FO there.

Kurt Warner on The Herd, talking about our new QB.

This is the dumbest thread I've ever seen good grief lol -
Exciting times, looking forward to watching him in pre-season. Even if he fails it'll be good discussion and chatter for the time being.

Official 2022 Carolina Panthers Schedule Thread

That mid-season run is brutal. If a few key players stay healthy, we have a functional offense, defense & special teams holds their own we could snag a wild card sport. Unfortunately I have no reason to believe this until proven otherwise, especially with how the QB position looks right now. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
Panthering replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I'm wondering if Hubbard, Brown, or Shi Smith will even make the final roster at this point -
I'm biased but yes we should 100% shell out some cash to get him in here. He's a good run defender which is a weakness of ours and wants to be here. He would be awesome to get in the rotation and make our team better.

What are the biggest weakenesses on offense and defense?

Good insight into the Panthers trade for Corral

I bet Tepper hated the idea of being patient... guy is anything but -
Turner has been burning out of every org since he left here, I bet he'll settle a bit in Washington under a known regime. He's such a knucklehead though.

I would love one of Clowney or Julio, especially Clowney since I'm a biased USC alum. But I think we should be calling up Ryan Fitzpatrick immediately and paying him to the professional leader in that QB room. Given Darnold's injury issues last season and the teams preference to maybe sit Corral as long as possible, Fitzpatrick could get some time at QB1 on Sundays.
-
I said this in a different thread, but I like Corral's leadership ability over Darnold's already. If he's that much better then I hope they make the switch quickly. I'm just worried about who is going to be getting the #1 reps and who the hell is going to lead that QB room. They need a professional clipboard holder in there asap.

A few things I'm thinking about Corral. In the post-round presser after drafting Corral, Rhule answered a question at the end talking about how Ole Miss teammates talked about what a good leader Corral is and how much they liked playing for him. I think this will factor into the dynamics of the QB position this year, I do not believe Sam Darnold is much of a leader that teammates rally around. He's just a quieter, straight edge guy, and that's okay. But unfortunately, he's also not an NFL starting QB in my opinion, and those two things combined will have him on a short leash. I do buy into the Corral leadership factor, read some good things about him (and bad) but I think ultimately he's a guy who's vulnerable with his teammates and plays hard as hell for them. You have got to respect his decision to play in the bowl game for his school and risking injury which unfortunately for him (not Carolina!) that's what happened. However, with no QB veteran in the room, who the hell is he going to learn from as he adjusts to NFL lifestyle? I do not think Darnold is the right guy for that, I think it's pretty important we do NOT pick up another QB arm for competition, but rather a clipboard holder who will guide the QB room in the right direction. No, I don't think the answer to that is Cam. By nature of how the team is structured right now, Sam will be getting the #1 reps most of camp I presume, if this happens and then he gets hurt or plays so bad that Corral is swapped in, I'll be worried about how quickly he adjusts and his confidence. I do not really trust this coaching staff in that respect, there's going to be so much responsibility on Ben McAdoo's shoulders, thank god he's an NFL vet and should be able to handle these things at his level. I'm excited though, we haven't had an exciting rookie QB since Cam I'd say so I'm looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. Very happy that we have what I'm hoping will be an at least middle of the pack NFL offensive line for the first time in years and some weapons to surround the QB position with.

Everyone should be excited, he’s got a really talented arm and that’s something we haven’t seen in Carolina at the QB position in 5 years.

Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss
Panthering replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lol took the most talented QB of this draft class and all it cost was a 3rd next year. That’s worth it 100 times out of 100 don’t care how good or bad he turns out. Great job this draft addressing our two biggest needs and not reaching in either pick so far. Very happy. -
