The Previous Game is Under Review- Any Specific Requests?
Icege replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Looking forward to it! I've got to go back and watch the second half still (got sick on Sunday afternoon and have been in bed since ), but: -Performance of DL depth -any reasons for DJ Moore's lack of stats? -Corbett improving at all? -Baker's biggest issues -Tremble still in the doghouse? -
TD drive pls, let's finish this!!
-
Apparently it was Henry Anderson that made the block? ayyyy!!!!

Marquan McCall just makes plays

Frankieee!!!! Let's fuging goooo!!!!

Hell yea I'm watching! It's a win-win. A loss is another step closer to life after Rhule, and a win is a win. Going to be keeping my fingers crossed as always for the guys to come out healthy and see if players are growing. Going to be especially interested in watching Derrick Brown, Yetur Gross-Matos, Tommy Tremble, Brady Christensen, and of course Ikem Ekwonu.

Previous Game is Under Review - Panthers (Week 2 - @ Giants)
Icege replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thank you again for this! I wasn't going to rewatch this week like I usually do (there's some extra salt with this one since my wife is a Giants fan ), but reading through the breakdown a second time has me wanting to start finding the good that can be built on. Would pie twice if able. -

Got a sneaking suspicion that when Tremble reached for the goal line in week 1 that he was immediately put in the dog house, but I'm hoping that this is just the coaches leaning on Ian Thomas while Tommy continues to develop. Not feeling too good about only having a 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th for the 2023 draft but Fitterer has shown that he's able and willing to move back and accumulate picks. -
By all means, poo on him all you want but at least be intellectually honest. There's plenty out there to use against him. Nonsense like showing a picture of DJ and Ian Thomas and trying to imply that somehow the team is inept because Myles Garrett blew up the latter is dumb, as is going to a 2mo old press conference just to find more stuff to rage over. But hey, sad bois gonna sad I guess.

An Eagles fan's power ranking doesn't really mean much tho https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/platform/amp/2022/9/14/23352804/nfl-power-rankings-week-2-eagles-chiefs-bills-rams-cowboys-vikings-packers-football-teams-ravens-bgn

Context: This is a clip from 2 months ago during minicamp where Rhule responded to Person that all of the injuries during camp weren't serious and that he expected everybody to be ready to go. It was the goofy laugh followed by "Everybody's here." But let's not have that stop us from generating rage and therefore engagement by misrepresenting clips from old press conferences and snapshots of plays in progress.

Again though, we are looking at... what? An extra week of reps if announced before week 3? How many reps is the threshold? Mondays are film days. Tuesdays are generally off days. Wednesdays and Thursdays are when the meat of those reps are gotten, and Fridays are often light with early outs. Saturdays are walk thrus. At best, we are looking at an extra two to four days worth of reps?

I'm with you on Baker clearly being better than Sam, no argument there. However, in a team environment, he had to compete for the job. That's the part that I believe most fans, especially those without leadership experience (or aren't competent leaders themselves), don't understand. To them, it's obvious. To the guys that share battles together, they need to see that this is going to be a clear upgrade and not a downgrade like it had been when they brought Sam on initially. EDIT: Wanted to point out that the leadership comment wasn't targeting you. Was just a general observation.

McCall Should’ve Gotten a Jersey on Sunday

Nickel bases are becoming more and more prevalent and successful in today's NFL: link -
Only halfway through the review so far, but it looks like McAdoo tried to make things easier for the offense by having them call screens and other quick passes to neutralize the Cleveland pass rush. Unfortunately, 9 plays being thrown away (5 pass deflections, 4 fumbles off of the snap that CMC didn't pick up and take off with) really, really hurts. That's basically 3 drives killed by those issues alone. Looks like they tried to do what Sean Payton talked about in the other thread but had issues out the gate.

I don't necessarily agree. Training camp is nice and all, but that doesn't give them an opportunity to see how they prepare for and compete against other NFL opponents'. One game isn't enough of a sample size for that either, unless there is a huge discrepancy between the two (which, unfortunately, Baker didn't create enough of). Two games + the joint practices though gives plenty of data to make an educated decision and let their teammates experience it. Could they have made the announcement before week 3? Sure. Is a week going to be the difference between a solid performance and a shitty one? Seeing as how even elite QBs struggled this week and the NFL has shown a tendency for the first few weeks of games to be sloppy after the practice changes instituted by the CBA, I personally don't think so.

Be that as it may, he is correct. There are plenty of federal regulations designed to keep the integrity of athletic events. For example, 18 U.S. Code § 224 deals explicitly with bribery in sporting contests. The only thing that isn't "fair" imo is the selective enforcement of regulations. Unfortunately, as we have seen with Deshaun Watson and others, people seem to care less about integrity and more about entertainment.

fwiw, the only people saying that Rhule should have just dubbed Baker the starter are fans and media folks that butter their bread with hot takes. Football players, coaches, etc all seem agree that having Baker come in and compete the job was for the best as it allowed him to earn the job in front of his teammates (and therefore their respect, avoiding any locker room bullshit that could have resulted).

Even though the entire reason for him being drafted both never manifested and is no longer here (familiarity with Brady's system theoretically meant he should have been able to contribute right away), I think it's a little too early to declare him a bust. He's in a new system and has been injury prone. If there's no improvement throughout the year and he isn't looking any better in year 3, time to cut ties.

For context: Ian Thomas was tasked with blocking Myles Garrett while DJ was supposed to go through the gap to block the man that's behind Ian iirc. Garrett went inside and blew past Ian who then ran into DJ chasing after Garrett.
