The OL at the start of the season: Position Player 2021 Cap Hit (Millions) LT Cameron Erving $2,240,000 LG Pat Elflein $1,360,000 C Matt Paradis $5,698,000 RG John Miller $1,127,500 RT Taylor Moton $4,000,000 TOTAL $14,425,500 The OL at the end of yesterday's game: Position Player 2021 Cap Hit (Millions) LT Dennis Daley $881,838 LG Michael Jordan $613,886 C Sam Tecklenburg $549,990 RG Trent Scott $1,650,000 RT Taylor Moton $4,000,000 TOTAL $7,695,714 According to Spotrac, the average cap space spent on a starting OL this season is $19,600,000. The Panthers have spent $17,900,000 on the entire OL. That's nearly $2M less for the position group than what teams pay on average for their starters. The Pittsburgh Steelers starting OL has a cap hit of $8.1M, the lowest in the league... until Carolina finished yesterday's game. Meanwhile, look at the cost of the starting OL from some of the more successful teams this season so far: Team 2021 Cap Hit Tennessee $35,000,000 Buffalo $30,000,000 Arizona $28,400,000 Cleveland $28,400,000 Tampa Bay $27,700,000 New Orleans $19,000,000 New England $18,700,000 Denver $18,000,000 There are teams such as the Rams ($14.4M), Ravens ($13M), Chiefs ($10.5M), and Packers ($10.4M) that have spent significantly less than average on their starting OL while enjoying success, but they are also getting significant production out of players still on their rookie deals. Baltimore, Green Bay, and Los Angeles are all starting 3 offensive linemen still on their rookie contracts. Kansas City is starting 4. This team needs to find a way to draft and develop offensive linemen if we want to see sustained success. A franchise QB is great for selling tickets and entertaining the drunks, but as we saw with Cam Newton and more recently Matt Stafford, that is only going to get you so far until you put a competent offensive line in front of them. Overpaying veteran free agents is not the way. Get a guy on a second contract (Moton, check!), get a known commodity on the back end of his career if you have to have that greybeard in the locker room, and start teaching these young men how to block a pro level D-Line. Oh, and I most definitely didn't forget: Draft Tyler Linderbaum

This OL has been so bad. The QB has been bad. The OC has been bad. Even WRs bad. Bad bad bad.

Got curious so I went and did a quick breakdown. Surprisingly, both sides of the ball have had significant starts by 7 Hurney players, 2 Gettleman players, and 5 Fitterer players. Meanwhile, we have had 7 starters on offense that came in under Rivera, another 7 that came in under Rhule (the reason for being over 11 is that I've included Daley + Jordan as they've made multiple starts at this point). On defense, however, we have 8 starters that came in under Rhule with 4 that were here under Rivera (I included Horn with the defensive starters, hence the 12).

I completely forgot that it was a home game until fans boo'd Darnold

Draft Tyler Linderbaum and tell Tepper to stay out of personnel decisions. He was the one that pushed to move on from Teddy when the team could've drafted a QB in the 1st, sat him this year, and then moved on from Teddy's contract that had upset the penny pinchers.

Teddy B I’m sorry, it wasn’t all your fault!

YES AGREE WITH ME MORE -
I'm expecting an old school type of game. Both teams are going to run it down one another's throats. Both teams are going to bringing it on defense. Game will come down to whomever had the most bad bounces/calls/luck.

QR Week 7: Robby Anderson, Pro Football's Worst WR
Icege replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
The man has definitely had a rough few weeks. Didn't he miss some time during the offseason due to personal matters? If things are rough at home, it could definitely explain the lapses in concentration. Hope all is good for him there. -
Bro, are you really drunk posting before noon on a Thursday again?
-
Chuck, just because you watched somebody on TV doesn't mean you get to tell them whether or not they can express an opinion.

Fwiw, Haason liked the two tweets at the bottom from Ant. Looks like he's tired of dudes that peaked as a 4th string LB on the JV high school team trying to tell him who missed an assignment when the assignment wasn't missed. I can't imagine how much he'd hate the Huddle.

The Panthers….. not an attractive destination for top shelf talent?
Icege replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
This narrative regarding free agents and the Panthers is as tiresome, oversimplified, and misrepresented as the political ones that pollute the air waves during election seasons. This is Fitterer's first year as Carolina's GM, Rhule's second year as the coach, and Tepper's third year as the owner. The fact that there has been instability at the three major positions of power for the football team makes it very difficult for sensible fans to not make sweeping generalizations about their combined competence. This means that trying to figure out their influence on the situation is... well... pointless. With that being the case, let's go back a little bit. Seeing as how this is brought up yearly, we can assume it's been going on for a long, long time. In 2011, we get a new coach and draft a new QB. Why would a top shelf free agent want to come to the worst team from the previous season? Combine this with the fact that Hurney was so bad with money that he twice maneuvered the team into salary cap Hell, and now we see that we're missing two of the primary motivators for a player: Ws and dollars. Gettleman's era was literally, from start to finish, an exercise in getting the team out of the cap hell that Hurney put it into. There was no money. As soon as the books were cleaned up, they brought Hurney back. What did he do with the now available money? Signed Dontari Poe (2018), Eric Reid (2018), Gerald McCoy (2019), Bruce Irvin (2019), and Matt Paradis (2021). How good was the 2019 defense? Historically bad. How good has Matt Paradis been? About as solid as Matt Kalil was. Like... I get it. Most folks don't care how the sausage is made, so long as it's palatable to them. I just wish they didn't have to start making up bullshit. -
Go re-read the post that you quoted, because I don't think it said what you think it said.

Queue up Huddlers wanting to trade next year's 4th for him in 3... 2... 1...

My exact issue as well. Then again, getting something for him is better than just losing him. Looks like the team is leaning on nailing it's 1st round selection and finding 2 or 3 gems on Day 3.

Looking at the big picture, building a team question
Icege replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
QBs that the Chiefs churned through while Alex Smith was the starter until they landed Patrick Mahomes: Chase Daniel, Brady Quinn, Tyler Bray, Aaron Murray, and Kevin Hogan If anything, the KC model was to retool the team while a veteran runs the ship and fliers were taken on guys to see if they developed. Once everything else was ready, they went and got their guy. We're unfortunately following a tear down, so immediately winning wasn't a likely outcome for the Panthers. -
Dude is getting held like crazy on a regular basis and is getting know flags. Officials seem to be content to let a lot of holding go this season. Hopefully our OL adjusts to play within the way the game is officiated.

Is this the best panthers secondary ever?
Icege replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is by far the most talented: Stephon Gilmore Jeremy Chinn Donte Jackson AJ Bouye CJ Henderson Plus... we've got solid depth! There's young guys that are developing: Keith Taylor Jr Stantley Thomas-Oliver III Kenny Robinson Some surprising contributors that have shown to not only stick to the roster, but perform on the field: Sean Chandler Sam Franklin Jr Myles Hartsfield And finally, rounded out with the presence of two veterans in Rashaan Melvin and Juston Burris. Burris, Melvin, and Pride Jr are likely gone while STO3, Hartsfield, Chandler, Franklin, and Robinson have a strong chance of being on the bubble vs. any incoming competition. I wouldn't mind spending one of those day 3 picks on a S + CB, while going out and signing the same to compete. Churn the bottom of that roster to see if we can find diamonds while we're stocked with talent. I can't help also but wonder if Fitterer is approaching draft picks similar to the Rams in that he'll gladly give up picks for known quality players that can produce in the NFL. -
Go on. Kiss it. Apologiiize.

Make it SUFFER

We're also one win away from matching last season's total, and it just hit halfway thru the season!

I got you. There you go.

It was Halloween I was trying to get candy and jell-o shots instead of arguing with a bunch of musty neckbeards about winning a meaningless game that hurt the team's draft position.

I'm going to need some of these folks that were saying that Shaq is "okay" or "just a guy" that is "bad in coverage" to come in here and apologize
