  1. Unrelated but maybe it'll give folks something to talk about at the end of practice besides what the definition of a deep ball is...
  2. I've come to realize that a lot of fans go by Madden stats for what is considered a deep pass (short 0 - 20, intermediate 20 - 40, and deep 40+) rather than football stats (short 0 - 10, intermediate 11 - 19, deep 20+). I'm not sure if it's willful ignorance or them looking for another way to say that Bryce isn't big enough for the NFL. Maybe a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B?
  3. Starting to wonder if that's the case myself after hearing Canales talk up the safety group. Sam's injury though is going to give somebody a chance to possibly sneak onto the roster if they can show out on special teams.
  4. Looks like the team did NOT care for the drone footage
  5. Kind of wild now how much more training camp info there is now with even more fans, podcasters, etc after these practices capturing video + providing live updates. We're spoiled. I hope the team allows the drone footage to continue. Really enjoyed that today.
  6. Dane Jackson Working on getting up to football speed. Focusing on technique and making plays. Coaches do a great job of putting them in the right position. Evero makes the right calls at the right times. Room keeps themselves contained, don't worry about what is going on in the media. Taking it day-by-day and goes out with the 1s to compete every day. Trying to bring a winning culture. Folks from last year aren't satisfied and they're looking to get the right pieces in the right place. Easier to control his emotions now that he's been in the league for five years, so after a bad play he's able to maintain focus and move forward. Felt the defense is already good and is just trying to find his place in it to help win. Everybody can play. Doesn't know about the rooms last year, but good competitiveness now. Had a interest from a few teams but let his agent handle it. Happy to be here. Talks between the team and his agent made him comfortable that the team wanted him. Players want to find a place to come and make it their home. Not an overly talkative person. Leads by example and tries to make sure to reach out to younger guys when they get down on themselves like his vets did for him when he first got into the league. Bryce makes all the right throws. Will be doing all of the right things in coverage but Bryce will throw the guy open. Knew of him but didn't watch much Panthers football since he was focused on teams on his schedule. Happy to be on the same team as him and compete. Looks like that's a wrap for the day
  7. Mingo up Feels good. Trying to capitalize on his opportunities. Camp is going well right now. Working on things he know he needs to work on (feel + speed of the game) so he can be more comfortable going into year two Feels like he has a better understanding of the system. Worked with Bryce this summer in California. Had fun. Treated it like a vacation and training since it was his only trip the summer. Bryce likes to wake up early and he asked him to push it back to avoid traffic at 8am. Better feel of an NFL offense, signals, being in the huddle, splits, adjustments, etc. Cleaning up on the details he didn't need to worry about in college. Not worried about the outside noise. Been working on keeping his focus and mentals in order since his sophomore season, so nothing new for him. Wasn't worried about a fresh start with a new staff. Just worried about himself and giving his best. Noticed that the game is slowing down for Bryce as well. Can read it more relaxed, slow it down, and be more comfortable. Can see it in his practice. Asked about a connection coming into the league with Bryce. "I guess you can say so." Mentioned keeping the same mindset and wanting to help the team win. Feels like Bryce is really shifty and that Mingo missed him on a few scramble opportunities. Being more ready for him and what the defense is showing so that he can find the hole which you can find when learning the defense and your QB (how he is, where he likes to take the play, etc) and being on the same page with him. Did some batting practice at the Angels stadium with Bryce. He's not very good at baseball. He can play infield, but isn't a hitter. Mingo can hit and played centerfield. Legette can hit too. Says Legette is cool. Mentioned getting bumped into second place when XL came in, but Coach Moore can't understand him so they're always having a laugh about that. Good energy and fun guy to be around. Mingo can understand every word, but Adam tries to translate for him which makes everybody laugh more. Gonna try to get together in the offseason to ride horses since him and XL both do The coaches have good feel for defenses, so they look to take what the defense gives them and capitalize. Likes pads. Real physicality and talking now. Excited to play fast and confident. Not motivated to beat guys ahead of him on the depth chart, motivated to beat himself and be better on the field. Everybody is trying to win on the field so that's best for the team. Feels like getting a lot of reps helped him get a better feel for the game Trash talking makes the team better. Diontae likes to talk. Chuba talks the most noise and is always ready to put on pads.
  8. Canales up first Thanked fans for the Back Together practice. Felt there was an uptick during practice from the team as a response to the fans. Looking forward to Fan Fest in Clemson. Padded practice tomorrow. Gonna be hitting. Clemson practice being treated like a padded, inter-squad practice. Looking to crank it up and make each other better. Daewood Davis has "something in his thigh." Will give more info once he gets it. Opened up for questions Establish mentality, core runs, and then work around who key blockers are. Has seen this approach work on both offense and defense in regards to attacking/defending the run. Needs the offense to bring the team's third key point, toughness, to complete the circle with defense and special teams. Running the football is how the offense does that. Shaq had an illness. Damien Lewis has a sore shoulder so practiced early and then monitored. Sam Franklin broke his foot during the Back Together practice. Focused on getting Sam to rehab and back as he's a core leader on special teams. Not aware of the degree of the fracture but from what Canales has heard so far he will be able to get back. Asked whether they make a concerted effort to get certain guys involved. "Absolutely." They to be methodical with where reps come in for certain players to feature match-ups styles of play, etc. Asked whether or not he wants a vocal guy on defense like what Jaycee did today. "I love it!" Looking for guys to show who they are and allow groups organically to show who they are. Doesn't expect everybody to be vocal, wants it to be natural and comfortable while coming from an attack mentality. Says he does not get in the way of players when they want to talk trash. Focuses more on keeping connected to the principles of the style, and then let the personality form from the team itself by guys being themselves. Asked about second and third year WRs and their challenges. Talks about how defenses disguise coverages and makes that difficult on first year players. Pointed out David Moore needing 2 - 3 years to catch on and how Mingo + TMJ are doing so now. What has he noticed about Chuba's mentality? Loves Chuba running angry and his mentality. Compared him to the attitude that Jaycee brings to the defense. What has he done to make the offense more consumable for Bryce? Not doing much different than what he's done in the past. Wants mastery, so they don't move on until mastery of what has been taught is displayed. Master the day, the walkthrough from the afternoon before, and beat the guy yesterday. Pleased with Bryce's progression. Was asked to evaluate Bryce's day-to-day or general play. Saw good throws Gets excited about pocket is over, time to move, and Bryce keeps his eyes downfield with the timing of the play while on the move. Moving with intentionality. Also pleased with mechanics, especially pre-snap. Offense looks like they know what they're doing but they're still fine tuning. Asked about the throw to Ian Thomas and about Bryce's vision when the play breaks down. Disciplined eyes, top down. Will be able to find explosive plays in there while also knowing when to tuck the ball in run. Will train the defense because they'll have to account for a QB that can scramble and training the OL to keep blocking because the play might still be alive. Working with Bryce to "get on top" when throwing out of the pocket, but still wants him to use all arm angles. Looking for guys that keep making plays. Coaches are staying out of their way, players gotta find their best. Asked if anybody caught his eye. Lot of guys, he's looking at the safety group. Nick Scott, Alex Cooke. Very pleased with how they're communicating and running to the ball. Beyond Shaq + Josey, complimented Trevin Wallace. Special talent that flies around and chases the ball down. Offensively, the WR room + Jordan Matthews. Stephen Sullivan has flashed ability and length. Groups are being very competitive, which is what Canales wants. Can't replace Sam Franklin, but this is a great opportunity for folks to step up. ILB room has a bunch of guys that can help them. Brought up D'Shawn Jamison as a gunner, Dicaprio Bootle, and Mike Boone. Some guys can find a role for themselves on special teams which will help them make the 53. "He's one of my guys" re: Sam Franklin Canales done. Waiting to see who's next.
  9. Waiting on press conferences to start
