  1. I haven't been impressed with Elflein, but like Erving he provides position flexibility on the line. He's also dirt cheap this season at just over $1M. When it jumps to $7M next season, he can potentially line up center for the team. If he sucks, it'll be just around $4.5M in dead cap. Really hoping to see Dennis Daley and Deonte Brown step up to at least provide stability at one of the interior positions on the OL.
  2. Not interested until his legal issues are resolved and he's taken proactive steps to learn how to treat women. Throwing some money at charity and a couple of sensitivity classes is not enough to address clear predatory behavior. I'd need to see Deshaun attack his issues head on and be an example of accountability for others to mimic going forward.
  3. I was a BIG FAN of Erving's when he declared for the draft and was heartbroken when he didn't pan out initially (even more so when tEddy thrEw dEEp ) Hoping that he catches on in Carolina as at least the swingman that can play any position on the line
  4. Did a search for "Kollman" before posting because I figured it already had but no threads popped up.
  5. I really, really like the idea of building a complete team that allows a young QB to be brought in and helped out so that they're not brutalized into a shortened career. Imagine if Cam came in to the NFL and the team had a legitimate defense those first two seasons.
  6. Brett Kollman did a video on Jaycee Horn back in mid-April before the draft and listed him as his bonafide #1 CB. We've still got a couple of weeks until preseason action, so why not continue to hype up our 1st round pick? Synopsis Jaycee Horn covered the following players during his college career: AJ Brown, Kyle Pitts, Devonte Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Elijah Moore, Dyami Brown, Justyn Ross, Cordell Powell, Josh Palmer, Trevon Grimes, Van Jefferson, Tyree Cleveland, Seth Williams, and Terrace Marshall Jr Believes xp taking on those challenges will be one of his biggest reasons for success in the NFL as all of them took a pound of flesh from him (esp Devonte Smith in 2019) Hardest assignment was 2019 Bama vs. x4 1st rd WRs as a sophomore where he had 2 PBU on 8 targets though he gave up 5 catches for 113yds and a long TD to D. Smith Bama WRs took adv of his lack of hand usage and tendency to play on low shoulder position a lot in man that left him to a few specific routes that Bama took adv of Slippery WRs like D. Smith make it hard to maintain the low shoulder position Had a tough game vs. D. Smith due to not having proper hand placement from lack of exp against players that he needed to. Significantly changed his playstyle after the game where D. Smith torched him as a sophomore Had issues with trying to secure the ball before securing the route by peeking back at the QB without a hand on the WR, which is what caused the 40yd TD to D. Smith. Even did it against Jeudy. Eye discipline issue was part of his over aggression as a CB Put a premium on securing routes first and not turning his head until he was sure he was in phase was prevalent in 2020 Gave up a catch 1 out of 17 coverage snaps as a sophomore, as a junior it was 1 out of 30 Was a much more physical corner in 2020, started playing man coverage primarily from a high shoulder position instead of the low shoulder while also soft-shoeing releases instead of pressing at the line. This allowed him to keep a hand on the WRs chest and back and better feel the routes. His play in 2020 reminded Kollman of Richard Sherman, Jalen Ramsey, and Stephon Gilmore. His new physical, more technical style allowed him to stack over WRs and still be able to peek into the backfield while preventing the WR from comfortably running their route Work ethic to learn from mistakes and develop, inching from his already high floor closer and closer to his potentially astronomically, historically high ceiling Unique advantage over other college corners is his resume showing his experience vs. NFL-level talent
  7. Also oh my damn I thought Burris was like in his early 30s originally but he's just a bebe at 27 idk why I thought he was older

  11. Low key hoping that Sam suddenly gets it so that we can avoid the poo show that would ensue following a trade for Watson
  12. Combine numbers 5'8" 135 as a sophomore in HS but hit a late growth spurt his Jr/Sr years Only had offers from Southern Illinois, Colgate University, and University of North Dakota Strained his groin 3 or 4 days before the combine testing, so he wasn't even at 100% but decided to test anyways DROY snub Won Defensive Rookie of the Month 2 out of the 4 months of the season, 2nd? the other two months. Felt snubbed but has long term goals that he wants to accomplish Tucker believes that Chinn would've been DROY if he had been the 2nd overall drafted player due to player's draft status following them throughout their careers LB or Safety? Doesn't mind where he lines up, but feels comfortable at Safety and that it's his more natural position Not much will change from what he did last season, will just be starting at the safety position rather than SLB Biggest difference from last season will be as the last line of defense and playing more deep than in the box as much as he did last season, but will ultimately be similar roles What's different going into year 2 with Rhule? Getting the older guys to buy in year 2 after the college mentality of year 1 Sam Darnold Sam's talented and naturally gifted, was the 3rd overall pick for a reason. Has all of the tools. Has bought in to being coached and talking to the guys

With Brown & Roy going into their second years and the additions this offseason (Jones, Fox, Nixon, and Hoskins), the team is in a good position to get better. If the interior should have a minor upgrade, the MLB and other DE positions offer significant upgrades. Haason Reddick & Denzel Perryman replacing Stephen Weatherly & Tahir Whitehead have to give the defense a better chance to get off of the field. Those overall hurries? Haason Reddick alone had more hurries (16) than the four from last season combined (15). That would push the team from 20th to 11th. Pressures? 62 for the 2021 additions to last season's 45 to go from 18th in pressures to 11th. Sacks? 21.5 vs 7.5 (from 22nd to 9th). TFLs? The new crop has 23 more TFLs to their name, which would have pushed the Panthers from 26th to 7th. The only stats that aren't significantly altered from those changes are missed tackles (new guys have 2 less than last year's) and INTs (last year's has 1 to the new guys' 0). There's also the 4 extra PDs from the additions. I'm feeling much, much better about this year's defense than I did last year's which was expected to struggle.
  15. Thank you for the heads up on this! I got curious about Luke's thoughts and found the clip mentioned (click here). Luke mentions that tackles are great, but if you can effect the game at or behind the LOS and in the pass game in coverage, LBs tend to separate themselves. He specifically mentions TFLs being incredibly valuable with the best having 10 - 12. Their ability in coverage is important, but their ability to effect the play at or behind the LOS is what differentiates the great LBs. With that in mind, let's do some more stats digging! A couple of quick notes, once again: Julian Stanford and Clay Johnston are not on the list as their contributions came primarily on ST Christian Miller is not on the list as his only stats from his rookie season are for pass rushing. He did not appear to drop back in coverage (at least, according to PFR) Sam Franklin was included as he played a role similar to what Jeremy Chinn did, but as a rotational piece Denzel Perryman only started 6 of the 13 games that he played last season. He had significant injury concerns leading up until then and is considered a high risk for injury, but he was in Anthony Lynn's doghouse during his time with the Chargers (Lynn even sent Perryman and Tillery home rather than having them come to a game). Player Comb TFL Sks MTkl% FFs INTs PDs PassRat Jeremy Chinn 117 2 1 11.4% 2 1 5 115.5 Shaq Thompson 114 6 0 6.6% 2 0 5 90.7 Jermaine Carter Jr 46 2 0 9.8% 0 0 1 93.7 Frankie Luvu 59 3 2 19.4% 1 0 1 131.2 Denzel Perryman 48 3 1 2.0% 1 0 1 94.7 Sam Franklin 23 1 1 14.8% 0 0 1 91.1 You know... for all of the unfair criticisms that Shaq receives ("bUt hIs cOntrAct"), he's the best cover LB on the team. He has the lowest passer rating when targeted out of the LBs listed, tied for 3rd on the team in PDs (only behind Donte + Rasul), and only Perryman has a better missed tackle percentage while having just over a third of Shaq's combined tackles. Shaq also leads the group in TFLs, Luke's under appreciated stat. Frankie Luvu's numbers concern me a bit, but I'm hoping to see Jermaine Carter Jr get more opportunities this season as he showed that he was clearly the better option when compared to Tahir Whitehead last season. Jeremy Chinn's passer rating when targeted concerns me a bit, but he was also a rookie playing everywhere. Plus, we've already seen what the kid can do and that's literally everything. Numbers don't lie tho: Shaq Thompson is currently the best LB on the team. His numbers were also better than Deion Jones, who in a previous thread was somehow rated above him? Hopefully now that the team has a better DL + DBs (and no more Tahir Whitehead), Shaq can effect more plays behind the line like he did in 2019 when he had 11 TFLs + 3 sacks.

Brian Burns is gonna get charged with assault this year at the rate he's putting hands on opposing QBs. Lawd that man is good.
  17. Eh... idk about that. It took until week 3 for the team to get their first sack and they were not lighting it up until later in the year with two 5 sack performances (vs DET & GB). It is definitely a good sign that they started to get to the QB but they weren't doing that until later in the season. Fully agree with the team needing to do better vs the run tho
  18. I believe it does as the DL did their job in that scenario while the coverage failed. Can also include QB hits/Hurries if there's interest, but I won't be able to edit OP to include it.
  19. The only way that I see Daley starting is if Moton kicks over to LT and Trent Scott forgets how to walk.
  20. Her sister, Kysre, was the 4th pick. Kalabrya was a finalist for Michigan's Miss Basketball Award tho.
  21. Inspired by the recent comments made by Jets' DE Carl Lawson on the Jime Rome show highlighted in this article. With this perspective in mind, I wanted to take a look at the defensive linemen currently on the Panthers' roster. A couple of interesting notes before looking at the numbers: While Brian Burns is far and away the team's best pass rusher, Efe Obada was 2nd on the team in pressures (21) and sacks (5.5). Austin Larkin was also the only defensive lineman on the roster that did not have any sacks nor pressures (127 defensive snaps). Christian Miller opted out last season, so I've included the numbers from his 2019 rookie season. Frankie Luvu is included as he lined up as an OLB in a 3-4 most often during his time with the Jets. Mike Panasiuk spent his time on the practice squad last year without playing in any games so he has been left off the list along with rookies Daviyon Nixon and Phil Hoskins as I'm currently unable to find college stats for pressures, only sacks. Player Sk Prss Brian Burns 9 37 Haason Reddick 12.5 34 Derrick Brown 2 19 Morgan Fox 6 13 Yetur Gross-Matos 2.5 12 DaQuan Jones 2 11 Marquis Haynes 4 10 Bravvion Roy 1 8 Frankie Luvu 2 7 Christian Miller 2 2 Caraun Reid 0 1 Frank Herron 0 1 Austin Larkin 0 0 The addition of Haason Reddick looks like it could be a major boost to the team's pass rush while Derrick Brown quietly impacted the pass more than some fans would have us believe as he was 3rd on the team in pressures last year. Jones and Fox also look like they'll provide some interior help while Reid, Herron, and Larkin likely won't make the final roster. Hoskins and Nixon have their work cut out for them to make the main roster with Brown, Jones, Roy, and Fox all likely making the final cut unless one of them can overtake Roy for his spot. It'll be interesting seeing Frankie Luvu, Marquis Haynes, and Christian Miller compete. At least one of those guys could lose their roster spot to one of the aforementioned DTs, but if all three practice well they could all still make the team.
  22. Surprised that folks are still trying to split hairs between pay for LT/RT when pass rushers are moving all over the line and not just rushing from just the blind side.
