Put the seatbelt on that man -
Going to need to see a significant improvement in redzone play calling as well as 2min drills. The QB change doesn't help near as much as getting CMC back and having competent TE + OL play. Take the MIN game, for example. From the 11yd line at the beginning of the 2nd quarter: 1st & 10 - HB toss to the right. Brandon Zylstra is asked to seal the edge vs. a DE who muscles right by him and forces Davis to accelerate towards the sideline. Moton, who is pulling, almost stops to help but has to turn his attention to the DT that Miller was unsuccessful blocking. Had Moton not had to slow up for either of those defenders, he'd have kept going and crushed Gladney and left Davis 1-on-1 with just Harris to beat. Loss of 4. Why was the #5 WR being asked to seal off a DE? 2nd & 14 - Inside handoff on the option. Edge was set, but Gladney read the play and got inside Robby and was there to keep Davis from bouncing it outside. 3yds and a cloud of dust. Might have been worthwhile if it was an RPO rather than a read option. 3rd & 11 - Looks like a levels concept on the right side with Robby and DJ running in routes. Just 2yds of depth between the two with only two yards separating them vertically (and DJ, the deepest man, still being a good 5yds short of the 1st down. 5 targets for the QB, and only two of them are in the endzone/passed the 1st down marker). Davis runs a Texas route and Teddy tries to get it to him with his two "deep options" taken away, but the way the play was drawn up means that Robby and Davis are on a crash course for one another. Kendricks was sitting there in zone, made a jump on the ball, and you can see Davis slow up just before it gets to him because he's worried about bumping into Robby. As a result, Kendricks gets the INT. This was bad play calling capped off by bad play design. Jumping to the 3rd quarter, Panthers are on the 17yd line: 1st & 10 - Fast collapsing pocket. Good coverage all around, Teddy has to get the ball out and tries to get it to DJ who is absolutely smothered. Ian Thomas could have been a target, but again by play design he's getting ready to bump into Curtis Samuel once he gets to the endzone. DJ almost came down with it anyways even though Chris Jones also got away with DPI by holding his left arm down. Teddy put the ball where only DJ could get it. 2nd & 10 - Read option again. OL gets no push. Davis tries to follow Reed to the outside, but Harris knocks Reed backwards into Davis for... yup... 3yds and a cloud of dust. 3rd & 7 - Davis beats the LB on an out route, but Teddy has to pull it down as he winds up to fire because the OL can't protect against a 4-man rush. Paradis got hit in the side by the DT, freeing up the other DT to make a beeline for Teddy, who evades the lineman and scrambles to the 10yd line, 3 yards short of the 1st down. 4th & 3 - Slye's FG attempt is blocked by a defender that Chris Reed stepped out of the way of. It was also his man that had knocked over Paradis on the previous play. Finally, the 2nd to last drive following the Vikings muffing the punt. Starting at the 9yd line. 2:10 left in the game, Panthers are up at the time 24-21: 1st & 9 - Inside handoff goes for 4yds. Colin Thompson pausing in the hole ended up being a good thing because his hesitataion caused him to get in 3 defenders' way all at once, which made room for Davis to push forward. 2min warning. 2nd & 5 - They run the same play, this time for just 2yds. DJ and Thompson both to a shittacular job of blocking Kendricks who hit the hole and stopped the play. Vikings are forced to burn their final time out. 3rd & 3 - The infamous "Teddy got DJ hurt" play. Teddy had mentioned that the play came in late and called for shifting Robby to determine if it was man/zone coverage. The team lined up with 6sec left on the play clock (FOLLOWING A TIME OUT NO LESS), and had Teddy been able to check it into a run play (which several Huddlers scoffed at) not only would DJ not have gotten hurt, but it would have left the Vikings with barely a minute on the clock rather than almost a full 2min had Davis been stopped. Instead, we got an inaccurate throw and DJ rolled his ankle. Teddy had an opportunity and missed for sure, but for Brady to not get that play call in until there's 15sec on the play clock following a time out is asinine. If Brady can show improvement as a play caller and revisit some of the plays where he has two receivers in the same spot on the field (something that infuriated me about Shula's offense when he was here), then I'll start worrying about him getting poached.

1st & 2nd Rd Draft Picks (2017-Present) - Pretty Cool
Icege replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Gettleman shat the bed with the 2016 draft, but he might have made up for it with the 2017 draft. His only pick from then that didn't pan out was Daeshon Hall. Obligatory imagine if Hurney didn't move on from Butker reminder. -
Panthers are trading LB Denzel Perryman to the Las Vegas Raiders
Icege replied to AndrewLaskoski's topic in Carolina Panthers
Flipped a 7th for a 6th so... from offseason cuts alone, the Panthers have offloaded Greg Little and Denzel Perryman for a 6th round pick. I'm ok with this, especially if that 6th can get the team another player as good as Deonte Brown, Shi Smith, or what could've been Trey Smith. -
Can likely clear up $7M ~ $12M in the offseason, which would keep the cap a little closer to what it looked like going into next season. The team looks like it's going in with the roster that it has for this season and next, with the option to reboot afterwards. I like that it also means that if Sam stays, he's still got Robby. If Sam goes, whomever takes over is going to have incredible weapons, a strong defense, and hopefully a competent OL. The team has this season and next to find answers outside of Moton & Christensen (Tyler Linderbaum pls). 2023 will also be the year to get out of Shaq's contract which puts the current projected available cap according to Spotrac at... $162M Will have a lot of the current young guys under contract as well... Strap in for the ride y'all

Woodyard's face lmfaoooooooo

Rashawn Slater been looking good, but Christensen is looking solid + Jaycee Horn is gonna be a beast so I'm ok with how things worked out.
-
Kind of hoping that we're able to drop down while netting a 2nd rounder to replace the one that was traded for Sam.
-
Give me Tyler Linderbaum out of Iowa pls. Team needs a competent center once Paradis' contract is up, and Linderbaum can start at LG as well if the team goes another route. Came to Iowa as a defensive lineman, switched to OL, and has been a force since. Former wrestler that also pinned Tristan Wirfs

Perspective, Directive, and Erective - The Panthers offensive woes and you
Icege replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The more that I go back and watch that 4th down stop, the more that I realize it was just better defense by the Ravens combined with bad play on the part of both TEs. Ian Thomas gets slung to the ground immediately by Tyus Bowser while Colin Thompson puts an ineffective shoulder into DeShon Elliot rather than squaring him up. Daley was late getting around due to Paradis having 2 DL + 1 MLB bull rush him off the snap, but what really killed the play was Thomas getting thrown to the ground and Thompson's poor technique. Bowser was left free and forced Chuba to bounce outside, and Elliot had barely moved from the love tap by Thompson. If Thomas doesn't get thrown to the ground, Chuba doesn't bounce it to the outside and scores. If Thompson actually blocked Elliot, then maybe Chuba gets around him and scores. More on Thomas than Thompson, but both failures result in a 4th & goal from the 1yd line going nowhere. I'd like to see that same play ran with Darnold and Tremble. Darnold might not fair much better than Thomas did, but Tremble would have leveled Elliot. -
It's safe to say that Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, Da'Quan Jones, Morgan Fox, Yetur Gross-Matos, and Marquis Haynes are locks. That leaves 3 - 4 spots left in the DL group for the final roster. That's up for grabs between: Bravvion Roy - 2020 6th Rd pick. Looked pretty good for a 6th round rookie towards the end of last season. Not so much this preseason. Daviyon Nixon - 2021 5th Rd pick. Has been lining up at DT and DE. Looks like the team is hoping for him to fill Obada's role. Had a great practice vs. the Ravens but hasn't shown up in preseason. Phil Hoskins - 2021 7th Rd pick. Has impressed in preseason against the 3s, and has shown the same production vs. the 2s. Consistently collapses the pocket and could very well have worked his way on to the final 53. Christian Miller - 2019 4th Rd pick. Has been getting plenty of preseason snaps where he's shown the ability to get pressures, QB hits, TFLs, etc. Unfortunately, seems to be most effective vs. the run when he's in the backfield already rather than holding up at the point of attack. Could sneak in as a rotational pass rusher that can also drop back into coverage à la Reddick/Luvu. Kendall Donnerson - One of the four practice squad journeymen competing. Had a sack and had a couple of flashes. Might have done enough to work their way on to the practice squad. Frank Herron - Has been getting plenty of snaps vs. the 2s & 3s. Has had a few plays here and there. Caraun Reid - NFL journeyman that was once a 4th round pick iirc. Had an injury issue during the first preseason game. Walter Palmore - Former Seahawk brought in by Fitterer. Got themselves a penalty in their first action, but later got a couple of pressures. What say you, Huddle? Who else makes the final 53? Who makes the practice squad, if anyone? Currently, I'm leaning towards Hoskins and Nixon making the 53 with either Roy or Miller also making it or one of the latter two being practice squad bound.

Locking down a strong WR group for the next 4 years so that we can bring in a young guy on the cheap if Sam doesn't work out?
-
Spent all of week 1 watching Christensen + Brown and it was a treat. Allowed me to watch LT most of the night tonight... which was disappointing. Scott had some nice moments: sealing off the crashing DE to create an outside run lane and stonewalling a huge bull rush to keep the pocket clean. Also got to watch Mike Horton a little bit more as well. Might be able to get himself a practice squad spot. Was also interesting seeing Christensen get snaps at G. He's the clear swing guy at this point. I really, really hope to see the OL look like Moton-Miller-Paradis-Brown-Christensen.

Jermaine Carter has dubbed Jaycee Horn "Big Straps" and it is now so.
-
Shi Smith is tough as nails
-
Big play by Julius!!!
-
Great defense! Hoskins was immediately in the backfield and Celestin made sure to get the tackle
-
Sam Franklin is making the final 53. His development has been nice to see.
-
Looking like Grier might have played himself back into the QB2 convo. PJ hasn't looked good tonight. Let's see if he can make it happen in the 4th
-
Christian Miller has been getting himself some pressure tonight. Think he'll at least make the practice squad
-
Sam Franklin with the smart play. Got a shot but not enough to draw the flag
-
Hoskins just shoved that RG off of him and helped collapse the lane.
