there's zero chance of stroud looking like young did if the panthers drafted him. it's one thing to be drafted by a losing team who can't get it's act together...it's another thing to look like you can't get your act together, and be one of the reasons as to why your team is losing. stroud would have shown promise despite playing on a bad team. if young was drafted by the texans, they would have been asking the same question the panthers are asking...did we pick the right guy?

black and blue helmets/uniforms are pretty slick.

The Athletic: Is this the worst Panthers team of all time.

2023 team with dalton under center beats 2010 team, and it wouldn't be close. -
Bryce Young is historically bad, and he's regressing

...until andy dalton steps under center and everything looks different. -
not a fan of young....but plug him into last year's offense under wilks and this team wins the division easy.
-
he might not have a choice. a shitty roster, suspect qb, zero draft capital, and a meddling owner...why would any of the names being tossed around actually want to come here? the next head coach is literally hamstrung for the next season or two. the only thing that can be corrected at this point is the team's attitude and mentality. everyone has seen wilks do it. let him come back and re-establish it, then move on from there.

money. period.

Antonio "Wilks" is why Frank has to be fired tomorrow
demcj replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
this makes sense on the surface, but keep in mind he had to work with what was given him. it wasn't his staff or players, and there was no offseason to prep. he couldn't hire anyone, and his hands were tied with bringing in new talent. he just stepped in and made it work. it's a given that mistakes would be made, but everything was trending upwards. -
the offense we saw with wilks was based solely off the personnel he was left with. the same thing happened in arizona. he was hired as head coach, but it was basically in title only. he wasn't even allowed to hire his own staff. he basically had no say so in anything, and had to make it work.

i'm confident that if wilks was the head coach, young would be benched by now and we'd be watching andy dalton under center. one thing he was consistent with was accountability. if he made mistakes, he would admit them and make changes. if players made mistakes, they would be held accountable and be required to make changes...or he would.

it was awesome to watch. as shaky as pretty much every team in the nfl is right now, i'm not convinced they would be one and done this season. they definitely had the confidence and attitude to pull off a run.

everything was going in the right direction after firing rhule. this wouldn't sting so bad had rhule been fired after the season and everything transitioned into the trash heap we're watching now. what we saw on the field the second half of last year was the foundation you build on. wilks may not have been the long term answer, but there's no denying what he was establishing was.

this chart can be misleading since it only shows his actual throws. young is indecisive and slow to react. this is not on the receivers. on plays where he doesn't think and just reacts, receivers are miraculously open. it's the reason why he's so effective in an up tempo offense. this offense would be so much more effective if it was a run heavy, play action scheme. it takes pressure off the offensive line, and it puts young more in his element when it's time to pass the ball.

the next head coach will be in win now mode. bryce young will not be under center.
-
i don't see it. the only win i can see happening is maybe colts...and that's a big MAYBE.
-
not really. not scoring did. punting guaranteed no score. going for it on 4th gave them a chance.
-
i fully expect the panthers to lose, but you gotta love everything we're watching right now.
-
win or lose, THIS is what we should have been seeing from game one.

Let's play "I could be a better GM than Scott Fitterer"
demcj replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
i would have traded brian burns. even if i made exactly the same moves he did up to that point, that trade alone wipes the slate clean and allows me to redirect. not sure what went on behind the scenes, but signing d'onta foreman would have been a top priority for me. last seasons second half run game should have been built upon. if you knew you were going to draft a rookie qb, a stout run game is paramount. it may not have been his call, but as GM i would have been screaming to keep steve wilks. what we saw the second half of last season is exactly what you want to build on. -
wilks didn't have his own staff, players, offense/defensive schemes, or any real time to set things his way....yet, he literally stepped in and took over someone elses trash and created a watchable competitive team. win or lose, the product he put on the field is the stuff you build on...not the shitshow we see now. this is easily shaping up to be the absolute worst panther product we've ever seen.
