I agree with this. Young’s deep ball looks like lot more effort than most, but like u said, it gets there, so not a big concern. the processing to me is the most important trait if u want a top perennial QB. Bryce is the smartest college QB I have seen in a long time. Like old Russell but think even better.
-
Yup that’s what I thought. Size is the only argument… im not worried abt size. QBs are getting protected by refs more than ever. Bryce will be fine as far as injuries. Injuries can’t be predicted. Big bodies get hurt, small bodies get hurt. Can’t debate an hypothetical which may never be a problem. manziel is a bust because he couldn’t play not because of size/injuries. let’s talk abt game flaws. What do u have on bryce?
-
U can use this thread to discuss Young’s flaws. aside from size, what do u have?
-
I think mcCown comparing CJ to burrow is being taken out of context. He compared their size & throwing style. But said w/o talking to CJ he couldn’t make a definite comparison since he doesn’t know what’s between the ears. burrow special trait is between the ears. His ability to quickly process defenses. CJ is not known for quick processing so far. To be fair, he didn’t have to in Ohio. Coaches & players were usually better than his opponents. So maybe he can consistently do it. Jury is out… also McCown said Bryce would probably be #1 taken but y’all r not bringing that up…

I have watched every game. Watched countless all 22. the games his 1st reads weren’t consistently opened were Michigan, Iowa & Maryland. He coincidentally struggled a bit more during those game. He had a hard time escaping pressure. i don’t want to sound like I don’t like his game. I think he was very good in college. but I have questions about his consistency in less than ideal situations.
-
Why do u think CJ fits Reich better? Do u think he is more accurate than bryce? i think their accuracy is comparable. Actually Bryce has a better completion percentage with lesser talent in a harder conference this year if I’m not mistaken.
-
I think the height thing is overstated. can a 6.2 QB see over a line that’s has nobody under 6’4? andy Reid once said QBs don’t throw over buildings but they throw between buildings. watching bryce, the middle of the field is opened season for him. That’s ur sign that he consistently finds open throwing lines.

CJ barely had to make decisions…1st read was usually opened. Body of work was good but the quality of competition in big 10 & top WRs he had make it hard to evaluate. Bryce was heisman with top WRs. This year he carried weaponless Bama team (RB was the only legit weapon) thru great games.

With CJ seemingly the fan favor to be picked by Carolina at 1, I have a Question for the huddle. without the GA game, can anyone look at CJ body of work & honestly say he is a better QB than Bryce? on that GA game he played like a number 1 overall pick. But that was 1 out of at least 24 games. I dare to say he played like Bryce plays every game. Can we trust that the GA game is the real CJ?
-
It does. Cony Ealy played his best game in the superbowl. Would have been MVP had we won. CJ had 1 month to prepare for 1 opponent. Don’t get me wrong, he answered all questions we had for 2 yrs on that game. But that’s also my issue. We had consistent questions with mobility, lack of creation out of structure for 2 yrs, couldn’t handle pressure. How do we know that the GA game was not a fluke? Some QBs can get hot for 1 game. Some for even a stretch (Nick foles) but can they consistently do it? I don’t think CJ can, but if we draft him, I’ll hope I’m wrong.
-
That is exactly who I think CJ will be. GOFF, COUSINS, CARR… talented guys but need a lot around them to be top 10. U end up having to pay them a sec contract but if u r a serious org in need to be perennial winner, u try to trade them yr 5 or 6 for a franchise QB. Bryce on the other side has franchise QB trait who can work with less has this year showed. if u take CJ vs GA game away, u can’t possibly look at their body of work & think CJ is better.
-
Do u think linemen in the NFL r taller than in the SEC? College kids r 18 to 23 yrs old. Their height in college is the same height 99% of them will be in the NFL. How many ppl grow in height after age 18 to 23? Probably less than 1% if that. Bryce won a Heisman yr 1 & was spectacular yr 2 playing against linemen already as tall as they would ever be. I say lack of height talk is overrated.
-
CJ has huge questions marks. B4 the GA game, some thought he was falling outside of top 10 because of these questions. lack of mobility. lack of out of structure play making ability. He answered every question on that 1 game which was his best performance of 2 yrs against the best competition. so the question is, can he do that all the time? Why didn’t it do it in other games Whr he struggled? Michigan (twice) Iowa Maryland
-
If stroud played like he did against GA his entire career, he would have been 1st overall no questions. he played a nearly perfect game against the toughest comp that day. But that was 1 game. He played 25 other games b4 that Whr he couldn’t escape pressure or create outside of structure. So the question is, was that an outlier of a game or can that be his standard? I tend to believe it was an outlier. If u ever played organized sports, u know that there are days Whr u feel in the zone. Like everything clicks for u on that 1 day. I believe that’s what the GA game was for stroud. the reality is that 1 performance from CJ is what Bryce does on the regular. Anticipation, poise, create out of structure etc… as far as Levis, no, I don’t believe for a sec after watching film of both yrs that he could replicate what Bryce did at Bama this yr. He makes really poor decisions & his football IQ is nowhere close to Bryce. As far as injury & kyler Murray, someone answered u on the nature of kyler’s injuries. They weren’t related to size since they were non contact injuries. The only “small” injury prone QB is Tua.
-
This a lazy take on Bryce which indicates that u haven’t watched Bama this yr. Bryce literally had the least talented Bama offense in yrs. His best weapon was a RB to throw to. U can’t give me 1 WR or TE who can be drafted in the 1st or even second round this year if they were draft eligible. As far as taking hits, he took quite a bit the 2 yrs & was fine. Ppl also forget that QBs get protected like crazy in the NFL these days. More than college even. Tua is an injury prone QB. In college, dude broke his hips. Ppl didn’t know whether he would ever play football again. Some players are just injury prone regardless of size or height (jimmy garappolo) Bryce is head & shoulders above CJ, AR & WL. It doesn’t mean that the others can’t be successful in the NFL, but as prospects Bryce is highly superior today.

Question: Is Burns that much better than Yannick Ngakoue? I think Burns + 9 gets you to AZ 3rd or Burns + 9 + 2024 first gets you CHI first. Sign Yannick 3 years $35M which is kind of what he got from the Raiders before being traded to Indy.

New Coach Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
Ivory Panther replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Glad you will NEVER be in a position to hire coaches EVER. lollll -
Jim Harbaugh has convo with David Tepper

Tampering would be going after a coach in the NFL without consent of their current team during the season IMHO. This however helps Wilks lawsuit VS the NFL. Especially if the conversation happened before the game VS Tampa where Carolina had a chance to make it to the playoffs. -

No, he said Kunkel broke it first. Big difference. He was just giving him credit, not that he took is info from kunkel. -
I hear you. I would like an Offensive coach as well. I rather lose an exciting shootout like Sunday, than lose a boring defensive fest like we had with the Giants. I still believe Rhule was so bad that, Tepper being a new owner himself, can't afford to miss this badly again for his 2nd hire. Aside from Sean Peyton, no Offensive coach has experience at HC. So you can get someone who is going to be pretty bad again...
-
I agree, but Tepper can't afford to miss on the next hire. So Wilks can act as a bridge. otherwise, u hire a young 1st time coach & he gives you Rhules' vibe. I don't know if this fanbase can take that after Rhule.
-
No coach would want Wilks as DC in Carolina if the team continues to do well. Imagine you get a 1st time coach like Steichen and the team struggles at the beginning. Players may tune out new coach, fans will be calling for Wilks to take over etc...it can get ugly quickly. Tepper shouldn't even want that. Either give Wilks the Job because he is the proven commodity or take a chance on someone new and let him go.
-
That's a mistake I hope Tepper doesn't make. He is close to losing the fanbase. If Wilks continues to have the team play hard, you got to extend him. He will be a proven commodity at that point, and you can't afford to miss on your next hire. Give him 3 to 4 years to continue to stabilize the franchise and reassess then... If I'm Tepper, the only way I don't extend Wilks, is if I can get a proven offensive mind at HC. There is only 1 of those in the market & that's Sean Peyton. I don't think he comes here...So Wilks it should be!
