  1. Do you think the coaches see any value in having a guy like Damiere Byrd as the 6th WR (since that position will likely be one of the inactives on gameday) vs. keeping a Bersin or Boykin in that role? I'm assuming KB, Funchess, Ginn, Brown, and Cotchery are pretty much locks. I can see the appeal in trying to stash him on the Patrice Squad since he has availability and the other 2 don't, but his speed is impossible to ignore and it sounds like he has a lot better hands than most gave him credit for going into the draft. To me, with Olsen, Dickson, KB, Funchess, Cotchery, & Brown, the Panthers have more than enough WR weapons to move the chains. But outside of Ginn there are no burners on this team (and sorry I like Corey Brown a lot but he is not a burner in the sense of 'if he get's behind the defense he's not ever getting caught'). Brown may be a better overall receiver than Ginn, but Ginn does have the speed that make defensive coordinators pause, even if his hands have never been good enough to warrant a complete change in the game plan. I just think if they do keep 6, I don't see why you wouldn't keep another burner instead of a "possession receiver." This is provided Byrd continue to show in the preseason, but just my thoughts.
  2. I was in SD sitting in the end zone with Rosario made that catch. It was surreal bc I could see it was a catch immediately but I think most of the fans thought it was incomplete. The stadium erupted in cheers bc they thought it was game over. I was cheering too bc it was a catch and then suddenly everything got quiet bc the Charger fans realized the Panthers had won and my wife and I were the only ones in our section still cheering. Not the greatest game in Panthers history but one of the most memorable ones for me bc it's the only road game I've ever been to and it was such an incredible win
  3. We already have a former top 10 pick on the team with questionable hands And Ginn still has top-end speed. How would Perriman be different. Other than Kevin White or Amani Cooper, I don't think there's a wide receiver so superior we can't wait until the 2nd or 3rd round for. And I still wouldn't be shocked if Gettleman picks a Defensive Lineman or CB in the 2nd. We still have 8 picks left. And there is still a lot of WR/OT depth left in the draft according to people who get paid to know. The LB/S depth was very slim and we got a player with tremendous upside. Nobody knows how Shaq will end up but I don't think we've missed our chance on getting a WR that could be a potential #2 yet either. I don't know that Gettleman wouldn't see RB2 as a bigger need right now than WR2
  4. And this very board absolutely killed Hurney for picking Kuechly over Cox... Myself included...
  5. Lucas and Gamble have to be up there in the conversation for best in 2005. We've obviously had a lot of bad safety play but Colin Branch and Nate Salley were pretty bad too. Haven't seen those names yet. Tony Fiametta was a complete waste of a FB back when we carried a true full back
  6. Just annoyed when trolls try to hijack the legitimate threads instead of going to the smack forum Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle
  7. You do realize stupid fug that he started this website over 10 years ago and has spent more time on the Panthers sideline than you have dreaming of moving out of your stepdad's basement, right? I'm sure you want to be the torch bearer for your pathetic fan base but you don't even put in enough effort to be good at trolling. Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle
  8. I think Rivera will be gone at the end of the year but this is bull$@@t that this was leaked. I can't imagine JR is cool with this. Regardless of how you feel about Rivera and his future, this is the epitome of unprofessional. Rivera knows the expectations regarding his job. There is no need to embarrass the man or his family.
  9. Dave Gettleman did Jon Beason a solid in all this, as did the Panthers organization overall. And Beason has played his heart out here. But this was a business correction that made the best out of this situation for everyone involved. Panthers get something in this deal- which is obviously better than the nothing they were going to get at the end of the year. The Giants take out a low-risk flyer on the guy. Beason gets a final shot to prove not only he can be a MLB, but that he can actually play at a professional level. Beason has had 3 surgeries over the past 17 months. That is not insignificant by any stretch. I personally think his career is over. I don't mean that as disrespect and I know Beason is not ready to admit it, but I don't think this is simply a matter of him "getting healthy." He has had plenty of time to get healthy. I just don't think he is the same player he once was. There is no shame in that, but in the world of the NFL, you have to move on.
  10. They should play the Star Wars theme after Star makes a big stop or gets a sack
  11. Just a matter of time before he gets one of these here too
  12. I think Smitty, LaFell, and Ginn comprise a better 3 receiver set than we have in a long time. Ginn definitely adds another dimension to the offense and ST. If this continues, I do hope the Panthers can keep him after this year. He seems to be happy here.
  13. I think this game will be low scoring too, although a big win would gain the Panthers some national respect in the watered down NFC this year. I feel confident in our defense shutting the Cardinals O down, but I can see our Offense struggling too. Their run defense has been good, and I think they are confident in the CB's against Smitty & LaFell. I can see them playing a lot of Cover 2 to take away the deep ball from Ginn and counting on their front 7 to hold the running game at bay. We need Greg Olsen to have a big game and maybe get Williams/Barner involved in the passing game out of the backfield to exploit some holes in their defense. The biggest thing is to avoid turnovers and ST miscues. That is what doomed us last time against AZ. I don't think this team is overly talented, but they play disciplined football and will not be an easy out on the road
  14. And yet the wise Pete Prisco thinks they will put up 27 points
  15. Just read their new starting LT was picked up off waivers at the end of preseason from Indy. Carson Palmer must be kicking his dog right now. I guess the Kraken is going to have to finish what he started last year...
  16. Trade was just finalized. Levi Brown was due a lot of money, and I guess the Cardinals wanted to unload his contract and get something for him. Steelers had to have someone b/c Big Ben was going to get killed back there. Probably smart move for Cardinals long-term, but very good news for us in the short term
  17. Cardinals just traded their LT Levi Brown to the Steelers. Not that he was great, but Monsterz Inc has got to be licking their chops...
  18. How is Arizona going to put up 27 points? That offense is in the words on their own head coach, "putrid." That being said, their defense is pretty good and I doubt the Panthers are going to put up 30 points either. 20-10, Good guys
  19. I whole-heartedly agree too. This D-Line is ridiculously talented. The 2003 D-Line, as awesome as they were, benefitted by the rules back then that allowed DB's to mug receivers at the line and within 5 yards. It made the QB's have to hold on to the ball longer and gave them more time to collapse the pocket. The rules almost universally favor the offense now. Having a D-Line that can get the kind of pressure ours has with just 4 lineman is unreal. I'm not taking anything away from 2003, but this year's D-Line is better and will be better as Star & Short get more experience. How that translates as far as record goes remains to be seen. The 2003 O-Line was light years better than this years to start. So there is that glaring difference. People forget b/c of the awesome post-season when the Panthers truly played like the 2nd best team in football that year, but that year's team was not dominant throughout the regular season. Most "experts" pegged us as an 8-8 team who got a lot of lucky bounces to get to 11-5 entering the playoffs. The year has just started for this year's team, and so much can still happen. A win this Sunday is paramount if this team is going to be a playoff contender.
  20. I finally could rewatch the Seahawks game today during lunch. The worst part is that they honestly played one of the better games they have the past 2 years. Hats off to the Seahawks. The Deangelo fumble was huge, but he had a good game outside of that and the Panthers defense, while playing a great game overall, couldn't get the ball back to close the game. I honestly think if the Panthers execute better on the field they will win Sunday. The offense was not explosive, but they were very balanced in respect to what we've seen the last 2 years. If Steve Smith is right about the Panthers being a playoff caliber team, then Sunday is a game a playoff team wins. Bottom line.
