Sam Darnold comes in at No. 19 in Chris Simms' Quarterback rankings

I'd have to agree with this. The Saints had to clear 140 million off the books, they took hits on both O and D. -
5 Timid Predictions for the Carolina Panthers 2021
SBBlue replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a great idea. CMC will juke defenders. The Oline will have injuries. Each sack and interception will generate Huddle "I told you so" posts David Newton will tweet when Darnold gets the 2nd half of his couch. Each Sunday I'll be with my son, beer in hand, watching the Panthers battle. -
And he didn't do a lot of go routes last year.

You know that picture is quintessential jets. Darnold running for his life without a blocker in sight (he may be downfield here) I went and watched old film. That line wasn't just bad, they gave up after they were beat. You can reestablish your block sometimes when QB is elusive, which Sam was. Those lineman didn't even try. -

He has only half a couch. Besides that no. People trying to argue that 33qbr-185-ypg-Tannehill was pretty good those last 3 years in Miami. The latest was comparing Darnold's decision making to 35-turnover-brawling-eat-the-W-Winston who had better coaching, line, and wr's. Whatever. Other than that, no. We don't know what Darnold is. Believe it or not, he could have a Tannehill turnaround. Seems unlikely with our line, this division and schedule, but here's to hoping. -

Lol. Ouch. Now we're just being mean. My understanding is Winston is a changed man, seriously. He is working around the clock, had eye surgery, changing his diet and spending a ton of time with Saints receivers. Payton will probably go with Winston this year. Considering he had 5 fumbles to go along with his 30 ints, this is probably a good drill, though I wouldn't want it posted on the internet. We can't sleep on the Saints, they've lost some good players but they are still a good team. Though I don't understand some of the love he gets here. -

Yes. Finally, we agree. Huh? He looks the way he looks. I thought you were refering to QBR, not passer rating, so I thought I'd chime in. Tannehill was not good those last years in Miami, he is really good now. I have not changed in that assertion. I did. Your point? -

So you believe that the injured Tannehill with his 185 yards a game was actually pretty good, but the Miami Dolphins traded him for just a 4th and change because they wanted to make him look bad so that later we could compare him to Darnold to fit the narrative? The other NFL teams participated in this by not offering more for this competent, at least average QB. Then ESPN went back and recalculated his QBR for 3 years to make him look bad. I'm just tired of people posting on how Tannehill was pretty good those last few years in Miami. I'm not trying to make Tannehill look bad, ESPN, the Miami dolphins and the rest of the NFL did that. His play may have had something to do with it. -

Do you mean passer rating? I've heard some people refer to passer rating as qb rating. It is just passing. It tended to rate Cam lower because it ignored his running. He was ~185 yards per game BTW. -

I've done my homework on this. You did say qb rating or quarterback rating or QBR. Tannehills last 3 QBRs in Miami were : 45.6, 48.6 and 33.2 Ryan Tannehill Stats | ESPN Darold's QBRs in NY were: 45.9, 45.6 and 40.1 Sam Darnold Stats | ESPN Even ESPN, the owner of QBR, calculated the multi year performance of Tannehill vs Darnold Tannehill for whatever reason (injury, coaching, whatever) was not an average quarterback and was traded for a 4th and change. The Miami Dolphins, the NFL QB market and ESPN did not view Tannehill as an average starter. His QBR was 32nd at the time of his trade. He passed for less than 2000 yards. I will never understand the love some Panther fans have for Tannehill's time in Miami. -

Tannehill screwed Gase over in Miami, then Darnold in NY. Gase just has the worst luck with QBs. /sarc -

Panthers OLB Haason Reddick’s deal named among best contracts in NFL (usatoday.com) Ranking the top 32 contracts in the NFL | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF 31. EDGE HAASON REDDICK, CAROLINA PANTHERS: ONE YEAR, $6 MILLION (FULLY GUARANTEED) Although Reddick just converted back to a full-time edge rushing position at the tail end of the 2020 season, he’s a former top-15 draft pick who will still be just 26 years old come Week 1. We routinely see players like this get substantially more value on account of their draft status and athletic potential. Look no further than ED Jadeveon Clowney, who just signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Cleveland Browns after playing in 2020 on a one-year, $13 million flier. Reddick had the same amount of sacks in Week 14 of 2020 than Clowney has since Week 15 of 2018.

I do. That one is from the article and I agree with it. My response post lists my two predictions. I really don't think we are sweeping the Saints and Bucs, even when we were at the top of the division we couldn't do that. The rest seem at least possible...the the playoffs are a stretch. -

True, Hill had longer in Payton's system...but it would be more accurate to say that Winston had months to learn the system, like Darnold has now... or any rookie has, and he couldn't win the starting spot over Hill. We'll see. I watched an interview with Winston. A year sitting the bench, watching his former team win the SB has humbled him....and he's doubling down. He got eye surgery, lost weight, changed his diet, got married, and is putting in the time. He's had a year learning under Drew Brees and Sean Payton. He's on a very good team with excellent coaching and probably the most stable management in the league. Once again, he has fewer excuses than Darnold. -

We need both. I think we concluded that Teddy had a limited capacity for explosive plays. I think the hope is Darnold becomes a game manager until we have to have some magic. -
5 bold predictions for the Carolina Panthers’ 2021 season

My random bold predictions: We will beat Tampa Bay. They aren't going undefeated. There are normally upsets late in the year with injuries and overconfidence. Our D gets stronger and Darnold looks his best late in the year. Last year we were feeling good about the O and worried about the D. In the end, the D finished strong as the O fell apart. This year both will do better, but the roles will be reversed. The D will disappoint against the power offenses in the NFCS. The Oline will hold, and the O will get their sht together.
