Robbie quotes: "He [Rhule] stood on the table with the university to get me back into school, to open up that door for me to rewrite my wrongs to get me in the position I’m in today,” Anderson said Friday in his first media availability since signing with the Panthers “I can honestly say if it wasn’t for Coach Rhule making things happen, I wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in today.” For Anderson, there wasn’t much convincing on his end to sign with the Panthers. He had his eye on Carolina immediately following the news breaking of Rhule becoming the team’s next head coach. “I know winning is in his blood and that’s what he’s here to do,” Anderson said. “There wasn’t much he had to sell me on… I wanted to be a Panther.” https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/robby-andersons-special-bond-with-matt-rhule

Maybe. I don't like it....not from a strategic or human perspective. I really like Robbie. What's that bear doin?

Yeah opportunity costs are always hard to measure. If we went Fields instead of Horn would we be better off? Did they think Darnold's ceiling was comparable to Fields? Or they just wanted Horn that bad (they turned down some tempting trade offers). Rhule said he thought 2 players is better than one, so here we are.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?
SBBlue replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's tough to say actual percentages. Sam Darnold threw 45 TD to 39 interceptions so far. In 2020 he threw 11 interceptions in 12 games. Teddy threw 11 interceptions in 15 games. Now swap the schedules and the olines. Do the stats really stay the same? I just don't think so. -
I would disagree with the "don't think Teddy even comes close too". Throwing interceptions in the endzone or an interception on the first play of the last possession with a chance to win, are pretty bad. Missing wide open receivers in the back of endzone with a chance to win. Fumbling on the goal line...I thought that was just a cliché. Teddy was so bad in the last game, he got benched....and Teddy is an OK QB in my opinion. I would consider this, how do you think Teddy would fair on the Jets with a swiss cheese oline, butter finger receivers, non-existent running game, and a offensive scheme that doesn't like check downs to running backs?
-
Yes...with Darnold, the contract is short, and in the end after all the trading down in the draft, we didn't give up that much if he doesn't pan out. I have to tell you, the more I read about this deal, the situation, in context with the draft, it looks really clever. Its as if they planned it or something.
-
No doubt. Darnold was not our first choice. Fields is going to a playoff team, he should look good. It going to hurt watching him excel if we don't. On the other hand, if Darnold is throwing deep TDs and Horn is shutting down opponents, we are going to be very happy for a long time.

You're right, its real rare. My guess is Rhule and Fit looked at the details of the situation (swiss cheese line, receivers with the dropsies, no run game, coaching etc), watched the tape and saw flashes and wondered if there's something there. If a reclaim project was ever going to work, it looks like it should here. Not to mention, if it does, they'll look like geniuses. My bet, he's above average with a few flashes of wow.... He's no Mahommes or MVP Cam, but he's good.

Sam Darnold talks about The Adjust To Charlotte And The Panthers
SBBlue replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
This. From the looks of it, he's had 3 years of experience scrambling....he should be the best scrambler in the league by now. -
The more I learn about the situation the Jets were in, the more hopeful I become.

I'm not sure if I'd use the term rush. We know they started working the deal for Darnold in February. They probably wanted the QB situation wrapped up before draft so we had the most freedom with the first round pick. We lost a 2nd and 4th next year and 6th next year. We recouped the 4th in the draft and the 6th from the Teddy trade. If you consider that next years 2nd is a 3rd this year, we've already recouped that as well and we got Tommy Tremble for it. I did NOT want Darnold. I thought he was total bust. I felt the deal sounded too generous. Now after the draft and the more I learn about the situation Darnold was in, I'm more and more convinced, its going to look like a steal.
-
This doesn't make any sense. HIs contract is very reasonable for 1000 yard receiver.... we had just signed Darnold and it would help with his transition. I just can't imagine Fit would do this. I'm not going to believe this until there's evidence otherwise.
-
I agree. I think perryman, reddick, horn are going to make a huge difference here.
-
Problem is, the weaker teams come early in the schedule, hopefully we play well enough to eek out wins as we're gel-ing. Could be worse, the jets will have a rookie qb and rookie coaches.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?
SBBlue replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just a note, the Jets in 2020 had the toughest schedule in the league with a .594 SOS. They did beat two winning, playoff teams, Cleveland (11-5) at home and the Rams (10-6) away in weeks 15 and 16 where Darnold threw no interceptions and had passing ratings of 87.4 and 99.8 respectively . The Rams and Browns each won a playoff game last year before being eliminated. Meanwhile the Panthers in 2020 ended 5-11 with a .531 strength of schedule (9th hardest). The only playoff team the Panthers beat was the 7-9 Washington Football Team who were eliminated in their initial playoff game. The Panthers beat the following teams with winning records: file not found -

The more I look up what happened, its impossiple to stay MOST of the suckage. Darnold didn't punt, kick-off, return kick-offs or play defense. -

I was surprised that they even sucked at punting. -
The Jets were 2-11 last season, getting blown out in 7 games. I was wondering how much of the blame is on Darnold... so I did a little stat digging. The 2020 Jets offensive line struggled. ⦁ Darnold was pressured on 42.1% of his dropbacks, which was the most in the NFL. ⦁ The Jet Oline allowed pressure in 2.5 seconds or less on 28% of their dropbacks — the worst rate in the NFL. ⦁ The Jets averaged just 1.1 yards per carry before contact per rushing attempt in 2020 (30th). ⦁ For what its worth, PFF Offensive line rank:29 ⦁ The line ranked near the bottom of the league in 2018 and 2019 as well. In fact, at one point in 2018, the Jets, literally, had difficulty snapping the ball. They had to call Ryan Kalil out of retirement in 2019 for $8.4 million to play seven games. The 2020 Jets Receivers struggled. ⦁ Darnold experienced the 10th highest dropped pass rate in the league. ⦁ The Jets had 386 receiving yards from RBs (30th). Adam Gase didn't care to pass to RBs, as the Jets ranked 27th with 73 targets to RBs. ⦁ They didn't block well either. The Jets had a 54.8 run blocking grade from WRs and TEs (25th) ⦁ PFF ranked the Jets wide receiver group 31st The 2020 Jets Running Backs struggled ⦁ Le’Veon Bel was a disappointment in New York. He rushed for 863 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games before being released midseason in 2020. Bell averaged 3.2 yards per carry -- the worst in Jets franchise history (>200 attempts) He did score four touchdowns though. ⦁ Overall, the running attack was never good as the Jets averaged 94 yards rushing per game in three seasons with Darnold. The Jets 2020 Special Teams struggled. ⦁ Averaged 37.2 net yards per punt (30th) (I thought they would at least be good at punts, but no.) ⦁ Kickoff Return Avg 19.78 yard (28th) ⦁ Kickoff Coverage Avg Return yards 24.81 (25th) The Jets 2020 Defense struggled. ⦁ 94 pressures from edge rushers (29th) ⦁ 8.1 yards per target allowed by LBs (26th) ⦁ The Jets allowed the most receiving yards to tight ends (1,105) and the eighth-most receiving yards to running backs (673). ⦁ Pass Defense allowed 275.6 Yards a game (28th) ⦁ 3rd Down Conversion Rank 24th ⦁ PFF Secondary Rank 25th The Jets coaching struggled. ⦁ In Miami, Gase went 23-25 and his offense averaged 19.8 points per game ⦁ In 2020, Gase's Jets offense averaged 15.2 points a game (32nd).

Naah. I'd rather face him once rather than twice. Unless...we'll see him again in the Superbowl
-
Its true, it was a low first round pick...you just don't expect those to be healthy scratches. You expect them to play. Now it may not be his fault for the injuries and misuse, but in the end, a first round, even low pick, you expect to be on the field when healthy. Maybe he'll have PT against us when we play the Bills, or as I like to call them Panthers of the North.

If he does get traded out of the division I'm gonna

I meant You're not Your. So is there no edit... or do we have to pay extra for that?
-
Your right....probably why he is the backup. I think he just does backup quality and plays better than WG from what we've seen.
