I think in some coaches' minds, offensive line doesn't need stars, it needs more versatility because there are just so many injuries. Its not just us, offensive lines across the league are riddled with injuries. I think lack of injuries contributed to our 15-1 season.

Oh I agree. As I said, Gase was bad. And if Bell went somewhere else and went back to his fantastic ways, I would have posted different. But Bell didn't light up after he left Gase either. He's now a backup and didn't touch the field when his team was in the Superbowl. I understand there are legit reasons for that, but until proven otherwise, Bell has not performed as he used to. Maybe that will change...but it hasn't yet.

Another player blaming Gase. Gase was bad...but he has become sort of a punching bag just like some want to put it all on Darnold. Fact of the matter, Bell lost a step or two. Combine that with a bad offensive scheme and you get the jets.

True, it was what we were willing to offer, and we had to know that it was low. If we got Stafford for Teddy, a first, and some change, we would be celebrating for the steal we just made. We'd be wondering if Fit had mind control powers or something. We paid like 7 million just to help Teddy move on.

So I read the article. Great post by the way. The Stafford trade went down in January. We contacted the jets in February. It looks like Stafford was the first pitch, but obviously we were way too low... since they got Goff, a third rounder and two first round picks. When I heard about our offer, I thought there is no way the Lions were going to take that. Are you saying we knew it would be too low, we were headfaking the jets to say...hey there's plenty of fish in the sea if you don't want to dance? There may be an element of that....but it sounds a bit of stretch. I'm not sure why we took the time to lowball Stafford. But Teddy and a first (even at 8th) just didn't sound like enough me.

This is superbowl season for losing teams.... which we are...at the moment. -
Sam Darnold talks about The Adjust To Charlotte And The Panthers
SBBlue replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
In the Confidential video he said Charlotte reminded him of Cali, so hopefully he'll feel at home. Its probably closer to Cali than NY but I'm guessing he'll start feeling more of a difference come July. -
So you can. What voodoo magic is this?

They could have waited, and we paid a lot for him to leave...but of course they were going to say that, they knew they were on camera. -

I would pie more than once if I could. Hate that thread. -
Loved it. We almost won that game. If he hit that 60+ yarder, who knows...

Hey you edited but the post doesn't note that. Moderator perk I guess. Do you not have the time limit either? Can you edit my quote of your post?

We had one last year if I remember correctly. Also we used special teams on multiple fake punts, I think Chinn ran for a first down and Charlton threw for one. I think blocking is important to make the kicker comfortable. It seems like there a lot of almost-blocked kicks...but that could be the camera angle.
-
Exactly....they couldn't trend backward.....plus with qb settled, they could then use the 8 for another elite player or trade back, which apparently they like to do...a lot. In the end, I see the logic. It has some shrewd surprising moves and seems to at least have some supporting evidence to think it could succeed. All eyes on Darnold.
-
Though, they could have taken their chances in the draft. After they analyzed the situation in ny they decided to put all their chips on him.
-
Yup and they knew that would happen once they started looking. We got a sixth which we traded up with to get Christensen...letting us use our other 6ths on Shi and Lawrence.
-
I know right? If PJ hadn't thrown those 2 ints in the endzone we'd be talking how we have the best backup QB in the league because he definitely moved the ball. Rookie mistake, but D came thru for the W. I'm convinced Marshal and Anderson are going to fix the rz problems.

I know this isn't the prevailing wisdom, but I think Teddy was always meant to be interim QB. I think they thought the rebuild was going to take 3-4 years, we'd do worse than under RR, like 2-14 and Teddy would cushion the next QB from being compared to Cam. They gave him the 3 year because that is what it took to get him, the rebuild will take that long, and they could always trade him for something and eat part of it if they had to. (which is what they did) After we performed better than expected, especially with some very good teams, Teddy fell apart in the back of the season and PJ came in and won, and they thought, you know what...we could contend now...lets find our QB. Blah blah blah...Stafford .... Watson ... How that leads you to even look at Darnold is anybody's guess because I never would thought to look there.
-
Yeah, it looks like he has yet to play a complete season. Hopefully with better protection, we'll keep him on the field. Hopefully. Of course an oline can't do anything about mono.
-
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the players we chose were crappy...far from it.
-
Agreed. Christiansen will probably outshine Little at LT or Guard...and to do that, all he has to do is play.

How much of the Jets performance was really on Darnold?

I missed the PJ Walker thing...that must be in another thread. Thanks for heads up. -

SBBlue replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yup. We should get a good eval this fall. If he's anywhere near a #3 pick, we won lottery and Rhule & Brady will be celebrated as geniuses. If it doesn't, we're out some draft picks and missed a shot at using our 8th for our franchise qb....and we have to go though more rebuilding....bleh. -
Yes and no. Its true that it is conjecture to discuss draft/trading scenarios. But to get additional picks, you have to trade down which means passing on good players. We traded up to get Little in the second. So far we're looking at a potential bust. What would have happened if we traded down and grabbed 1-3 extra guys. Sure some of those would be busts, but maybe one wouldn't...and that is the game we're playing...throw more darts. BTW...I didn't realize this video was from the team. I thought it was just some fan. I don't agree with everything in it, but it does help to ballpark what we did. I didn't understand and thought it was stupid to keep trading down for crappier players which is why I searched for something to help me understand, and this helped me.
