Yep. I think Rhule agrees with you which is why we gave away just a future 2nd and 4th and this years 6th. We recouped this years 6 in the Teddy trade. Conventional logic says future picks are the equiv of subtracting a round, so a 2nd next year is the same as a 3 rd this year. Matt and Fitt felt by trading down and adding 3rd and 4th round picks we've already recouped the total cost of Darnold. That's debatable, but its better than the Jets who gave up the 6, 37, 52, 169 and the following year 34 to move up 3 spots to get Darnold in 2018. I think by giving away all that draft capital, combined with already sucking, combined with picking poorly with your subsequent picks, and then hiring Gase, I think a more accurate picture would be, the GM "Jetted" Darnold rather than the jets "Darnolded" their QB. When Darnold left, they had none of their 1st round draft picks on their team. Darron Lee, Calvin Pryor, Dee Milliner aren't even in the NFL anymore. Sam Darnold added to a long list of former first-round picks let go by the Jets | KJZ - YouTube We're giving him a fresh look to see how much of the stink was on him and how much was on the jets. I want him to do well and want people to give him a chance. Agreed.

The kid looks hungry and and eager to learn.

link:Jaycee Horn talks to the media after signing rookie contract (panthers.com) Feels good to get the contract done. Ready to get back to playing football and focus solely on football. Did you miss last week because of the contract? Following the advice of my people, my agent. My job is football, I leave all the other stuff to the team and my agent. I get here when they tell me to. On training and minicamp I'm getting better everyday. New situation, new coaches, new teammates and biggest thing new playbook. I'm trying to get better in all those areas everyday and it gets smoother as days go by. Biggest challenge Names, remembering everybody's names in the building. Its a little bit of a tough transition, new coaches might teach a different way than you learned in college. New plays and guys are just smarter and everybody's athletic so try to get that edge in the playbook and the filmroom. Goals Getting as good as I can. Right now the playbook. You play way faster and have more confidence when you know the playbook inside out. We've been together for a couple practices, most of the db room is here. Great learning from Bouye, Melvin, Donte, seasoned vets, asking them 1000 questions. I'm sure I'm getting annoying to them because I'm just trying to learn as much as I can because those guys did it for a long time and that's where I'm trying to get to. For example I was watching some of AJ's tape in Houston and I asked him about one of the plays and AJ was like, What you doing watching that film? I watch a lot of those guys film and try to get little pointers and stuff for them. Queston: I thought I heard Matt Rhule say that you need to get your wind back after being off of the field for a while. Can you tell me where you are from a conditioning standpoint and some of the things you were able to do while away from the team the past couple weeks. Smiles. I didn't hear Coach Rhule say that. I felt good. Felt as good as I did when I left. Tempo picked up in practice a little bit. For me I was just staying in shape running and doing conditioning stuff to be ready when I came back. I can't answer the contract questions cause I don't know. Who on the offensive side has most impressed you as a defender? Seeing Christian McCaffrey in action. The mans so fast so explosive. Seeing it on tape is one thing but when you see it right in front of your face, its 10 times faster. We weren't matched up, but I seen him freeze a dude or make a move..he's just explosive and its mindblowing when I see it. I was in Charlotte while away, it was cool, there wasn't anything that was bothering me, of course I missed being out there playing football. I just stay out of it and be ready be prepared when I was able to come back.

Hey thanks. I enjoy it. I know not everyone likes to watch or can watch and would prefer the cliff notes. Also mics this time were bad or off. Its also easier to refer to for the conversation here. Certain things jump out when its in text. I have some free time presently so I can do it.

The kid is tough as nails. I loved the line from the mic'd up video after some contact. That's right I hit like a tight end.

Its like the press forgot that OTAs were optional and vets often don't attend, but they kept asking about his absence. I know we were all interested because of the trade rumors, but at this point it seems like there is nothing there. David Newton did have a good question on being reunited with Sam. My jaw dropped.

link:Robby Anderson shares his first impressions on Sam Darnold in Carolina (panthers.com) Going on my 6th year, I know how to get myself ready. Nothing against the team or nothing like that. The work I was putting in with my trainer, I was on a good program. I didn't want to step away from that. My coaches and nobody had a problem with it. I was working. What did you focus on? --- I don't want to disclose my personal goals, I'd rather show. Another question on his absence At the end of the day, the season is the real goal, that's where we win at. I knew mandatory minicamp was coming up and training camp. I was working. Its not like I was sitting around doing nothing. Nobody in the building had an issue. Question on daily communication with DJ I'm not going to disclose the personal borthership with DJ. When I walked in the building I see a new energy out of Sam, like a glowing charisma that I didn't see in NY. You know their energy their aura, I can kinda view that when I walked in the building. This system is completely different, NY was more complex and nuanced for everyone. This system is more graspable. My game in NY was more down the field and vertical, I didn't have the intermediate. Mixing what I did last year is something to look forward to. A question on production in the contract year I'm a believer in what's meant for you comes from God. No man, no individual controls our destiny besides the work you put in... that's management and their decision. Slot vs outside question: Smiles, in the slot I can get more jiggy, I have more fun. Outside is cool and all, I like to get the ball in my hands and make things happen. I like both. I like playing reciever. I like to make plays. Getting vertical depends on the coverage. Question on Jets week 1 and the change up there Changes for the jets is not my concern. I play for the Carolina Panthers. I was given more opportunity last year. In life, the more opportunity you get you can either succeed or fail. I was putting in work, chemistry, positive things. The better I be as person in life, the better I be in every aspect. Whatever I put my mind to, I'm capable of doing. My goal this year is to have a better season than last year and I'm having a better offseason this year so I'm pretty sure the results will come.

Yup. I haven't written that one up yet.. Jaycee was surprised, kind of blind sided to hear something negative out of the gate and reported in his press conference. Jerk question for the press conference really. Don't know what Rhule saw. "Need to kinda get his wind back a little bit." ...could have meant getting back into the swing of things? I'm sure Jaycee will find out what it was and improve. He's that type of player.

I was impressed with Cam Erving. We talk about these players like they're pieces on a board and their effectiveness, but the stories of injury and perseverance and opportunities and challenges are really fascinating. Cam Erving may surprise us y'all. He seems hungry. Game on.

link:Cam Erving expects to be fully healthy for training camp (panthers.com) Dealing with injuries, just the offseason, trying to make sure I'm ready to go for the season. Feels good to be competing for LT. Nothing is given. Everyone is competing for everything. LT is where they told me I'm going to play so. Looing forward to getting out there and competing. Good to know what they want me to do, how they see me. In my career I've been labeled a jack of all trades. Now I'm getting an opportunity to play a position that I feel I can excel at. There's ups and downs all the time. Feels good to have clarity. Yes I will be healthy for camp. Are you the front runner at LT? To my knowledge, Yes sir. Feel like I'm fitting in with the olinemen. No age limit on learning or leadership. In this room I'm one of the old guys. We joke around. Always a blessing to get paid what you deserve--we call Taylor Franchise around here. laughs Taylor brings a lot of leadership, by his play and by being someone to talk to in the locker room. There's a lot to being a leader and Taylor has done nothing but that. I feel Sam has elite arm talent and this is his fresh start. There was a disconnect in Cleveland, KC was a fresh start. Grew as a player in Dallas going from swing tackle to RT to LT. I was able to grow through trying year at Dallas. I had to have a fresh start, like Sam given an opportunity.

Love that they are looking at adding Sam and Robbies vertical element. They don't know who the oline will be either. He talked about 2 min drill a few times. We're going to really practice that.
-
Link:Matt Rhule talks defensive performances at practice, minicamp schedule (panthers.com) This is practice for coaches too, reacting to 2 min situations, we debrief on how things went Great having Robby, he brings energy to the practice field. Can tell he's been working hard. Explosive playmaker, he's tough-catches balls across middle...hoping to add a vertical element that him and Sam had in NY DJ and Robby 1&2...who will be 3,4,5, great competition here. Sam did great. Will review protection issues. He did a nice job in 2 minute. Don't want great days, want to challenge him. Want good days steady progress. Good days lead to great days. Taylor Morton is a consummate pro. Everything we want in a player. He's a valuable part of who we are. Hard to move Moton, so dominate at RT. If he ever feels comfortable to do it, would consider. Diff between LT and RT is not what it once was, great rushers coming from right side. On Moton's contract, Fitt and Samir handles contract. Rhule stays out of it, wants players to see him as coach. Dennis Daley is really talented. Can play guard & tackle. Just keep him healthy. He's having a good camp. Really good offseason, came back strong and in shape. Need to find which position Daley plays best tbh ...what our best 5 oline are. Its going to take time at camp to find best 5 oline. We don't know right now. Try to build to 7 guys that can play. We have some depth. Cam Erving is out, should be ready for camp. Defense stood out today but the Oline really can't block without pads. Tipped balls because oline can't pull them down. Anytime we pick balls off its great. Jaycee Horn, first day back. Looked to need to get his wind back a little bit. Evaluating Clinton-Dix to see where he is and how he compares. Hassan Reddick is going to mean a lot to the D, can rush and play LB. Idk if we'll have a 2nd kicker. We are very confident in Slye. He's done a lot of work to be same guy every kick See if someone is legit competition and compare. I think every player and coach should use Dr. Joanne Perry, psychologist. Mindfulness, medication, visual imagery, self talk. Rhule uses headspace app everyday to be calmer. We've had such a great turnout at all along, happy guys put the time in. Thursday will be the conditioning test Everyone should be healthy for Spartanburg except Troy Pride. He might be longer.

Mics weren't working. I had to keep turning volume up and down.

Then switch sides.
-
Nope. Just being a pain in the ass.

My number is 54 and that's only if you include Ha Ha Clinton-dix which is premature....so really I listed 53. Yeah, I checked, I blanked on some ones I shouldn't have I forgot to list: Greg Little, Mike Horton, Gross-Matos, Haynes, Roy, Luvu, Melvin, Stanly Thomas Oliver Even if I didn't blank I only had 61. The rest I know very little about including Ibe.
-
I love it.
-
Yeah I went back and rewatched that part. He talks earlier about how nothing is given and you have to earn but then says he will play left tackle. "Do you feel like you go to camp as the front runner at left tackle?" "Yes sir." Game on. If Cam wins this spot for the whole season, great for him, and we will have cut an incredible deal for a servicable LT. He also talked about Darnold and fresh starts and I think he views this as his fresh start.
-
Yeah I caught that in the interview. Not sure what to make of it. He didn't say ONLY left tackle or the left tackle spot was his. Just that he would play LT. He also called himself a jack of all trades and they discussed his experience at other positions. Just another data point I guess.
-
Hate that guy. He's a bad reporter and a douche. I was disappointed, he didn't ask about Darnold's couch. Has anybody heard? Does Darnold have a place to sit?
-
Yeah. I miss sometimes.
-
Into the opponents hands. ha ha ha ha Its his decision making dammit. Nobody reads my posts. Why doesn't anybody pie my posts? /sarcasm
-
Yes. Yes he did...and probably will continue to.
