Jackson was a menace last year. Injury stopped a pro-bowl season. Why did we only see flashes before. Why didn't we see that level of play for years...experience, scheme, coaching, all of the above? Its not like he had a better supporting cast last year.

Rhule see’s Brady Christensen more of a RT or OG than a LT
SBBlue replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
No. Healthy Okung>Healthy Erving. Both have had their share of IR. Its why Okung hasn't been picked up. Erving is injured and couldn't do mini camp, so I guess we'll see how healthy he is training camp. -
He did throw ints. And that is a bad omen. I remember one year Cam was still throwing ints all the way to training camp. That year sucked.

And Sewell ended up at RT. We're all nervous about this, it would be nice to have it settled, but it looks like it is going to be a little while. Interestingly, as important as this discussion is, Greg Little has been asked about or mentioned. I thought they would at least ask. -
Yeah, nothing like a old fat ass asking why I'm not in shape.

The press is in mood this week. It seems like they are trying to create controversy everywhere through their tweets and headlines, blindsides...kinda like bullies. They don't even bother to show up for the pressers. They phone in from their car, or one guy was at amusement park or something based on background noise. Its unprofessional. If Sam was looking bad they'd be hitting there too.

Its not just for the players, it good for the team. If Tommy does become a complete TE, they can't assume that we are running when he's in, or that we aren't going to pass to him. Hope Tremble's getting a ton of reps catching rocks.

I do too. Rookie seasons are hard on corners. I hope he's ready for some ups and downs.

Cameron Erving Focused On Becoming Latest Panthers LT (theriotreport.com) The No. 19-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Erving was selected by the Cleveland Browns after starring at left tackle at Florida State, where he was a member of the school’s 2014 National Championship-winning team and was both a First-Team All-American and First-Team All-ACC. There was no way Erving was playing left tackle in Cleveland early on – That job indisputably belonged to future Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Thomas – Erving started at left guard as a rookie, then moved to center the next season before being moved to right tackle. The Browns ultimately gave up on him and traded him to Kansas City where Erving became the starting left guard and also started at left tackle in place of an injured Eric Fisher. One Super Bowl ring later, Erving played all across the Dallas Cowboys offensive line in 2020, ultimately ending up at left tackle due to multiple injuries. His career as an NFL player has typecast him as a journeyman, and he also has the advance of time to contend with as he turns 29 in August. At the very least, Erving is getting his wish to play the tackle position, which he has remained the most passionate towards even after playing all across NFL offensive lines.

Artificial turf isn't going to help with turf toe either. Hopefully he stays healthy and balls out.

Contract year baby. This secondary is going to be wicked.

I wonder why Rhule talked the way he did yesterday then. Maybe I misinterpreted what he was saying. Oh well. I'm done guessing what is going to happen here. Its clear they aren't sure. It could land a bunch of different ways. I probably won't believe anything until we snap the ball week1.

Steve Smith was awesome. One of my favorite Cam TDs had Steve taking 3 guys out of the play with one block for Cam. Thing of beauty. Two of the greatest Panthers, ever.
-
I know you were all worried about it. Heres the update.
-
Yeah, this seems likely.
-
He does have a history of injuries. He said he'll be ready for camp. I guess we'll see.

I think these coaches are betting on themselves. Cam Erving was a first round draft pick in 2015 whose play hasn't lived up to that. Rhule and co may think they can get more out of him. Erving even mentioned the parallels with Darnold in his press conference. I think contract negotiations are playing into this. I think the LT talk is Moton looking for LT pay. We have to groom a successor if those go sideways, and we need a good backup anyway. Moton is one of, if not the best RT in the league right now. He's already on the books for 13...its going to get expensive. I too hope they find a way to pay him. We don't know each player's state of play now, or mid season. We probably won't have the same line Week 8 as Week1. So we'll have a better idea with training camp and actually see who's healthy, whos ready and whos hungry. We've got to get this right.
-
Yeah, that is what I tought would happen. Its early.
-
Historically Erving is just not as good a player as Okung, even when healthy. He'd have to step up.
-
With what Rhule said yesterday, and today...I'd say he's a backup to Moton at R. Left will be Erving, Scott, Daley. Wow did not see that coming. If this plays out as it appears and Erving is the front runner, not depth. I will have been wrong on all counts. Crow is warming up on the stove, and they don't even have pads on yet.

I think he was frustrated with the grilling on the absence and that question as a follow up was like "if you weren't here, tell us exactly what you were doing", and he was getting a little perturbed. Vets skip OTAs all the time and the press knows that.
-
The O-line is definitely in flux. His comments yesterday seem to indicate that they will look at Moton at left if Moton feels comfortable there and followed that the value diff between L and R aren't as stark because there are now great right side rushers. This could be an open question for a while.

Darnold to Arnold is going to be a thing. I can feel it. You're right we didn't do hail marys, we did more hail mary kicks.

Great short article on Tremble Panthers OC Joe Brady says Tommy Tremble is not ‘just a run blocker’ (usatoday.com) “I think Coach Ang (tight ends coach Brian Angelichio) has done a great job of working with him in developing his game in the pass game. . . I don’t see Tommy as a guy that’s just a run blocker. I see a guy that I think ‘Is he gonna be a complete tight end?’ So it’s our job right now, OTAs and training camp, to just find out exactly what he can [do] and just kinda evolve and roll with that.”
