  1. A lot of change and new moving pieces. Its a good sign they all showed for OTA's. They are obviously putting in the work this preseason.
  2. Or post draft and we still have no idea.
  3. Tall order. I just want a winning season. If we do that, we know things are headed in the right direction.
  4. Can the Carolina Panthers rely on Joey Slye? Most of the time yes. Under pressure...so far...unfortunately no. What are the Carolina Panthers going to do with Brady Christensen? Depends on Moton. If Moton swings L then BC is right. If Moton stays right, he'll compete for somewhere else on the the line, even LT. How can the Carolina Panthers maximize Jeremy Chinn’s impact? Put him on the field, surround him with talent, blitz him. How can the Carolina Panthers keep Christian McCaffrey healthy? Spell him more. How can the Carolina Panthers build Sam Darnold’s confidence? Win.
  5. I think we are going to see Chuba used more than our previous backups to CMC. As for drafting CMC too high, I agree, but damn I'm glad he's on our team.
  6. No we were looking to the draft. When Erving was signed, Sewel was on the table, and we almost got him if the Lions hadn't taken him one spot before and then moved him to RT smh. He was on our board. If we got him we'd have to find something else to bitch about other than LT.
  7. Here's another one. I was going to make a joke about Grier and trash, but I thought better of it.
  8. I agree. So I went, combined the RT and LTs and sorted. Sure enough, Erving is 38th (hes not on the list, he's listed as Guard btw) 36 Rookie Contract: Penei Sewell $6,024,767 37 Jesse Davis $5,016,667 39 Rookie Contract: Jedrick Wills $4,925,729 Jess Davis played Guard in 2018, RT in 2019, 2020 back to Guard Miami Dolphins Jesse Davis is going to have competition for the roster (phinphanatic.com) "The problem that Davis faces is that he is not flashy and while he can play both guard and tackle positions, he doesn’t excel at any one in particular. The Dolphins felt the need to upgrade those spots in spite of Davis starting.... This year, I would think that Davis will make the roster once again but I can’t be certain of that anymore..... Davis is entering his 5th season in 2021 and that is still young for a lineman but the fact he hasn’t cemented a starting position shows that his value to the team is as a flexible backup that can be inserted at any time."
  9. We paid Matt Kalil 25M for 1 year. We just signed Moton at 17M/yr 5 yr. We paid Okung 13M/yr 1year. We are paying Erving 5M/yr 2 yr. Yes there are many starting tackles making 5/yr or less, but MOST are on their rookie contracts. 5M/yr is expensive for a swing tackle and cheap for a starting left tackle.
  10. We went through 5 left tackles last year. Unless Moton moves to LT, we're going to see a couple this year. Erving is paid like a swing tackle or guard, not a starting LT. He may start day 1 at LT but I think the coaches don't believe he will stay there....his contract, pay and performance last year fit that bill.
  11. The OP addresses that too. "He played fewer snaps than Okung last year as a swing tackle in Dallas. " 5 mil a year is not pay for a season long LT with a 5% pressure rate and I don't expect it. (Its 38% of what we paid Okung btw.) There's a lot of variables about where and how much he plays. My point was, when he played, he played well last year.
  12. "Not much" is fair, though I'd probably say "some luck." I think the results were mixed. Apple (injury), Whitehead were total misses. Boston and Okung (injury) declined. Schofield and Miller were mixed to different degrees. Teddy, Davis, and Robby all had career years.
  13. The OP already states his PFF was bad. What you skipped: " Erving allowed just one sack and eight total pressure per Pro Football Focus. To put that into perspective, he allowed a pressure on just 5% of his pass-blocking snaps. .... All-Pro Guard Zack Martin allowed a pressure on 7.7% of his snaps. .... Erving had fewer penalties and sacks per snap than Okung last year with only 8 pressures in five games. "
  14. Did you read the OP?
  15. Groan. Yeah 2 yr, 5mil a year for a swing tackle who performed well last year. Its not going to break the bank. Sheesh.
  16. I can't remember where I heard the clip of an interview of an opposing LB asking their opinion on Tommy Tremble. "The guys a prick" was the response.
  17. The question is, why hasn't he signed his contract yet. WTH is going on there?
  18. PJ Walker looked good against Detroit except for the ints in the RZ/EZ. To me he's a suitable backup and if given the chance to grow, could actually get good. He has the arm and mobility. I'm not saying he'll be a QB1 but I could see him becoming a legit QB2. Grier, its like he chokes. I don't know why he looks so bad. Ryan wasn't hired until January and don't know what the theories of the previous QB coach was. All I was saying was that frank's post reminded me of the Ryan interview. I agree we'll have a good idea by midseason. If Sam blows the lid off the place first game, we are going to be stoked. If Sam sucky sucks by mid to late season, I'll be switching camps. Right now, I'm on team Sam. Partly because I see the logic, and partly because I have no choice.
  19. That is exactly what the QB coach, Ryan said. Add to it VR training to read D's from QB view. Over and over and over.
  20. I think weight had something to do with it. This is just my own opinion, but CMC looked bulked up last year...not just upper-body but legs too. That extra weight landed on his shoulders when he dove for the first down and pounds on his joints with every step...he's just not that type of runner and I'm not sure the extra weight aids him like we think it would. I don't know how much he weighed each year so I have no data to support the theory. I just remember briefly wondering if the extra weight was really going to help or hurt. I could be off on all of it.
  21. Yeah. We really didn't know how good we had it. sigh.
  22. I agree. It's more a matter of degree. If we were playoff bound, CMC could be 85-90% and he and we would be pushing him to play. But by mid season when CMC came back and got hurt again, we probably said, make sure CMC is 100% before he plays again, telling CMC, "hey take it easy, you've already been hurt twice." We might have behaved differently if we were playoff bound. Its all conjecture.
  23. I don't think we were doing a full on tank. Some think we just spelled CMC to save him for this year. Though I think we might use Chuba more than we have used the other backup RBs. That might be my draft-goggles talking, but damn he is exciting to watch. Lets build some comfortable leads so we can rest CMC.
