No Respect for the Panthers - What Cowboys Fans are Saying
SBBlue replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dallas Cowboys: Top 3 bold predictions for showdown with Panthers (thelandryhat.com) " Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard both rush for 100 yards Last season, Carolina’s defense allowed 121 rushing yards per game and did not add much to their defensive front in the offseason. So I am expecting a huge game from both Cowboys’ running backs as this will be the toughest test for Carolina so far... The Panthers do not have any defensive tackle as good as Donald so the opportunity for a 100-100 game from both running backs is certainly possible. Even though I am predicting 200+ yards rushing there will still be plenty to go around in the passing game... CeeDee Lamb sets career highs with 12 receptions and 130 yards The Panthers are without their top corner Jaycee Horn....Just last week the Panthers’ secondary allowed 9 receptions for 112 yards to Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks. CeeDee should be able to feast over the middle of the field operating from the slot and on the outside. " Just, delusional. -

After the Saints decimated the Packers it was assumed they would decimate us. They didn't lose anyone on offense from the week before (the center went out early in the Packers game). Very few predicted us to win. It wasn't until AFTER we won that everyone was like oooh assistant coaches had covid and they have soooo many players out. I wonder what they'll say after this Sunday. Our long rest? Cowboys short week? The Cowboys were pretenders? -
Thanks Joey. We won the Chargers game last year because of you. Sorry you missed those super long kicks he stuck you with. You were trying all the right things, you just couldn't hit em with the pressure on for some reason.

We knew this was coming. Chinn doing his job at safety allows the line to finish the job. We all knew his production (tackles and sacks) was going to take a hit when we moved him back there. This is a perfect example where doing your job doesn't show on a stat sheet. Its good we don't have to blitz the safety to get the QB. I was hoping Chinn might have more pass breakups and ints, but apparently QB's can't throw while eating dirt.

DraftKings Line: Dallas -4 Something has to give when the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys meet Sunday in Texas, because Carolina and Dallas are a combined 6-0 against the spread. And while it's fair to distrust both teams this early, five of our six experts aren't down with the Cowboys laying more than a field goal on short rest. "Carolina has made the most of its early-season opportunities," O'Donnell said, "and its defense looks legit. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys present the toughest test to date. While I expect Dallas to win, I'll take the points, as the Panthers D does enough to keep this close. And if it really rises to the occasion, well, that's covered too." The Panthers continue to be without star running back Christian McCaffrey, but they have the league's top defense in terms of DVOA, and it's a little easier to buy in to that unit than the Dallas D, which has also played surprisingly well thus far. The Panthers have invested heavily in their defense in recent years, while the Cowboys are depleted on that side of the ball. It's hard to imagine that either team will run away with this one, but laying more than a field goal with a team due for a dud is risky. Predictions Davenport: Dallas Gagnon: Carolina Kenyon: Carolina O'Donnell: Carolina Rogers: Carolina Sobleski: Carolina Score Prediction: Panthers 24, Cowboys 23

I hope they stay with the "Panthers haven't played anyone good." schtick because it insults all of our previous opponents. -

Their pressure % is low because they literally have the shortest pocket time in the league. Dak has been sacked more than Sam. They actually have fewer passing yards than we do, on more attempts. They have the 7th lowest air yards/ per completion. If their run game fails, they are looking at 3rd and long. If we shut down the run game as we have done, it'll be a long day for dink and dunk Dak. If you are right, and the boys are great, they should crush us without CMC, Horn and Buris, on the road. But if we win, will the narrative be that we are awesome, crushing a great team, or that the boys were pretenders? -

On paper, it should be. We lost our 1st round draft pick in Horn, and CMC, and Buris. We are on the road facing one of the best O's in football right now. If we win, we'll be considered a top 10 team. We have more passing yards on fewer attempts than they do. The loss of Horn and Buris should effect the run D less than the Pass D. If our run D holds as it has, which it should, they will be in for a long day. -

Their fans have no idea what is coming. Their OC is scared af. -

Thats only 300 yards. Is that just the jets or saints game? We scored more in the second half with Houston.

It'll have to be tight coverage to kill the short routes. They do that to setup the longer stuff. DB's will have to be smart on Sunday.

Is this the best Panthers pass rush in franchise history?
SBBlue replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Maybe they're starting slow, because right now WFT has the 31st ranked D. In fact, the Bills, Chargers and Giants have their BEST offensive games so far this season against the WFT. The Giants for instance had 346 yards of offense against Atlanta, but 391 against WFT. -
They are 4th in the league in rushing yards with the 5th best yards before contact. From what I've seen, they like to run off tackle on first down often from shotgun, to set up the RPO and screen. So it looks like their best in the league Pressure%, is driven by an insanely low Pocket time of 1.6s, 2nd shortest in the league. If the play goes much longer, the OL can't hold and Dak isn't that mobile, explaining the 7 sacks (higher than ours).

He'd probably have to be wrong first.

PNP did an analysis on this that I found interesting. Comparing PFF line scores of the Panthers to the superbowl winner in that year. If you look at it, Cam had a better line most years, than we had in 2020 or now. I want to look at other stats to confirm, but Cam did not like to step up into the pocket, making it very hard for OT's and easier for G's and C's. We also liked long developing deep throws.

Probably. This is the most dominant D I think I have ever seen. -
Yeah, they're pretty confident right now. Hopefully their players and coaches are too.

Oh, you're not asking for metrics to evaluate pff, you're asking for metrics on everything else. It varies from position to position and looking at an individual on an OL is very difficult. Between double teams, blitzes, and us not knowing the assignments, it is just hard. Evaluating a line as a whole is much easier. For passing: Sacks, Pressure%, Pocket Time. For run blocking Yards Before Contact and Yards per attempt. 2021 NFL Advanced Stats | Pro-Football-Reference.com We have the 8th most pkt time but the 9th highest pressure%, 22nd highest sacks, 16th highest in QB hits. The Houston game was BAD. We had 3 sacks in that game alone and Houston is not considered to have a very good DL. But the average pkt time went UP after that game from 2.3s to 2.4s, indicating what I thought I saw... that Darnold was hesitant and holding the ball longer. If Sam gets the ball out in 2.3s, like he was before Houston, we'll see sacks and pressures go back down. Yards Per attempt we're 28th, and Yards Before Contact we are 31st. Our run blocking is not great. Jets and Saints had 2 of the best run D's in the league last year, so I expected it to be low, but Houston didn't help. We're not making big enough holes. It also doesn't help that Brady pulls sht like sending Chuba Hubbard up the gut on 4th and 1 when the opposing team is in goalline/ stacked box D or that we overuse CMC so that everyone keys on him. QB sneaks for 1st downs brings down that average as well. Rushing for 1st downs, we're 16th. Everyone get's frustrated with their OL. The huddle LOVES to HATE on theirs. Its a kind of virtue signaling around here. Our OL isn't great and just had its worst game. But the first two games weren't as bad as the huddle described. Huddlers just want 1st rounders on the line, so we can be like the Jets and and then PFF will show us love. Then they'll say its because we choose the WRONG 1st rounders, and if we followed THEIR draftboard, we'd have the best linemen in the league. Meanwhile if you look at what they pushed this year they aren't all that hot either with a few exceptions. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
