I know. There is a lot of sheer hatred towards our OL men. I don't get it either. Haters gonna hate I guess.
-
Maybe. But Burns is a key part of a D that's #1 in stopping the run at 2.6 yards per attempt. So how bad could he possibly be? So bad that he is worse than our linemen who are some of the worst in the NFL according to pff?

No Respect for the Panthers - What Cowboys Fans are Saying
SBBlue replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thats funny. A cowboys fan, talking to us about living in the past. -
There's some good points here. Both in stats and watching, our line performs better in Pass Pro than in run blocking. We say we scheme around it in pass pro and I believe there's an element of truth to that. But is scheme part of the problem with our run blocking? The year before Joe Brady came, 2019, our YBC/Att of 3.1, was 3rd BEST in the league. That was the year the line performed so bad in pass pro, we went through 3 Qbs and led the league with 58 sacks! Joe brady was not an OC at LSU, he was a passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He was at the Saints in 2018. In 2018 the Saints YBC/Att was 2.0 yards, 28th in the league. Could it be that we suck in run blocking, in part because our run scheme sucks?

The only people saying we have a good OL are in your mind. By definition, that is a delusion.

They love to run the ball. They have 100 yards more than we do rushing. We have to stop the run. If they can run, it is going to be a long day. Their pocket time is the shortest in the league at 2.1s and their average air yards/per completion is 7th shortest at 4.8 yards. They get the ball out fast on short passes. If we don't play tight coverage on the early downs, they will dink and dunk down the field. They do this to setup burns on deep passes. Our DB's have to play smart.

I ignore him. He wants everyone to go look up stats for him. He's always asking "what his grade for this" assuming it will help his point. I think he works for PFF because the only way to get that data is to give them money.
-
You are exactly right. Time to throw makes a line look better or worse. Sam has the 8th HIGHEST pocket time in the league at 2.4s....he has taken more time to throw than MOST of the league. So when Matt Ryan takes 2.3s and still has more sacks and hits than we do, what does that say about his line? Do you want the Atlanta line? Because according to PFF, you do.
-
Sam is doing well, and has plenty of experience with a bad OL. But we are are seeing a performance very similar to what we saw last year and no one would try to say Teddy was super elusive or an awesome scrambler. Our pass blocking is ok, and our run blocking is poor. First two games weren't too bad against tough DL's, but we were BAD against Houston. The line is what it is. I wish the rookies were ready, but apparently they aren't yet. Cheering when our OL gets injured doesn't help. People here were posting disappointment now that it looks like Williams is going to play on Sunday. The line whine is an integrated part of the DNA of the huddle.
-
What do you see when you watch the games. Does Sam get pressure? Sure. Is our line the best? Certainly not. Is it worse than the Jets line? Are you kidding?
-
I was just wondering when are we getting replacement for Brian Burns, I didn't know, but apparently he sucks worse. And if our OL is that bad, he must REALLY be bad. /sarc
-
Don't you see, the Jets and Bears with their 15 sacks each clearly have superior lines. Look at the chart. ESPN and PFF are experts. Don't look at stupid things like sacks and QB hits. Our OL sucks. We should insult them and cheer when they get injured. That's what good fans do. /sarc

Our PASS PRO IS about average and was much better than average until the Houston game where we had 3 out of 6 of our sacks 5 out of 11 our hits. In Houston our pocket time went up from an average of 2.3 to an average of 2.4. Sam was a little more hesitant than usual. They were in zone most of the game, so our wrs weren't finding the seam well or Sam was taking a bit longer when they did. When it goes back down to 2.3, we will see fewer hits, sacks and hurries like before. For those of you who cheered when Elflein went down, that says a lot more about you than about Elflein. We did WORSE when he was out. Linemen do not work in a vacuum. So far Sam is getting hit about average for the league. He is not getting killed or running for his life. Our stats are better than Saints and the Falcons. The saints have more sacks and hits for less than half the passing yards.
-
The OL performed WORSE at Houston with one of our OL starters out, NOT better. The rookies will play when Pat Meyer says they are ready.
