The whole winning only with pocket passers myth is going to die a very quick death in the near future. With Brady Retirement imminent, and I guess we calling Stafford a pocket passer and he's at the end of the road. Who do you think is going to win super bowls? Because the rest of the league has some type of athleticism. The game as much as it doesn't seem isn't changing is. Remember when there was 1-2 guys who could move the chains with there legs? That trend has reversed. Almost every qb is capable of atleast running for a first down if the defense plays man.

This. The Vick can't throw perspective is Crap. People want to look at percentages and but he never turned the ball over more than he scored. Scoring is what a qb does. You add in his rushing totals with his arm totals and I would take vick. Vick into today's RPO system would be incredible. When Vick was drafted we hadn't seen a guy like him before. You can say Staubach, Fran or whoever but none of those guys ran a 4.3 or were even close to the threat Vick was. Vick was run away from DBs fast. None of those qbs before the early 90s were that. Those guys at best were about as mobile as Mahomes. Like yeah he might move the chains but, they weren't run away from you or 70s to the house fast so the level of respect for vicks legs were different. I think comparing his level mobility, Cam and also Lamar jackson to those guys is a joke.

I'm good with either of those exact 2. The only thing I would be upset about is if they drafted Pickett over Willis and a LT. If you took Hamilton I would be like eh...OK..even kayvon....elite upside. Don't draft a almost finished product with limited room for improvement. Like he pro ready but he's as ready as he will get.

I think this is skewed. You used 2 guys as examples of running qbs. So you have 2 out 32 chance of winning the super bowl. Chances are you won't. Does that mean it can't work? No. Then the other example of couldn't keep it up leads to the idea Newtons body got destroyed running the ball so that's why he's not the Qb which isn't exactly the case either. We didn't protect him and he got hurt in the pocket that Pittsburg game. Even up until this previous season with us Newton still looked like the same runner as far as rushing ability goes. He didn't lose effectiveness. His arm was just gone. His ability rifle in strikes between coverage wasn't there. Not to mention playing behind the worst offense line in carolina history. The Newton wasn't a good quarterback and running is why Is greatly overstated.

This is a horrible take.... like nothing here makes sense barely enough? You don't Barely enough win a MVP and only lose 2 games in a season. BARELY win 3 division titles. The guy is a alltime record holder for rushing touchdowns in the league obviously your doing more than barely if your number 1 in a few categories and defeated Brady and all the pocket passers for a season. Barely? That means you can't throw at all really.

Hell Pat White dominated... that doesn't mean you have the arm talent to consistently win at the next level. Edward didn't even get at shot at. Playing QB and didn't even try..why because he just didn't have it. Again comparing Armanti Edwards to Willis is a insult. It's like saying all black running quarterbacks are the same and can't throw so move him to another position. Stop it.
-
Which is why every single athletic qb isn't projected to be first round number 1qb. Obviously Willis is the exception and not the standard-I can't throw so move me to wr like armanti Edward's. All athletic qbs are not the same guy. We have seen that. Kyler and Lamar most recently have proven that. Even with a Lamar jackson a lot of senior guys were crying he should play another position wr or hb. How many are saying that about Willis? Zero. Why because, he obviously has the traits to succeed at the quarterback position.
-
Armanti Edwards doesn't compare to Willis really other than being black. He didn't have the arm.. he didn't have the 230 build. He wasn't nearly as good a runner as Willis who broke more tackles at qb than anyone. Looking at how high Willis scored on the wonderlic, I dout he was as smart either. I think people see a great athlete and immediately assume he can't throw, he's inaccurate and not smart enough to read nfl defenses. That isn't Willis, stop with the idea all athletic qbs can't throw, that's as bad as saying all FSU defense ends are Everett brown. Until Brian burns came along and proved otherwise.

I mean clearly vs Ranked sec old Miss that team looked overmatched as a whole. Drawing to conclusion about a guy based on that one scenario could lead to a flawed perspective. If we look at his entire career. He rarely turns the ball over. And even tho over matched against d1 programs virgina tech and Syracuse he never lost to either one and was successful in the bow victories. I think it's safe to conclude if you look at his history vs that one game he thre multiple picks he was forced to try to make something happen while running for his life. You could probably find one game with any quarterbacks college career where they have 0-4 to ratio. But that's not what you look at to say he can't play quarterback.

Didn't someone else want number 1 and Tepper denied their request because that number is reserved for cam? Don't see why it wouldn't be any different for the rook even if he was a first round pick. Those who have yet to achieve have no right to take away from the accomplishments of those who have already walked the walk.

I for the life of me can't understand the resistance to the idea that the game is changing. As it has been in motion for years. Colleges are producing less pure pocket passers. Colleges for the majority do less under center work and primarily operated out of the gun. We are seeing that reflected in the pros as well. The gun allows for the qb to see the rush coming better and take advantage of a qbs mobility. The rpo read option offense is the evolution of that. Not saying teams are doing that 100% but since a lot of quarterbacks did that in college smart coordinators in the NFL are adapting to what there qbs already did well with success.

I will never understand how this board can fall in love with mid rounder caliber pocket passer but laugh off willis and say hes not ready. Stats dont always translate. Timmy Chang broke all kinds of records at Hawaii but what happened 2 him? texas tech and that air raid offense produced a new record setter every year and Mahomes is the only successful one really. Stop being blinded by marginal talents with good offenses or supporting casts around them.
-
You mean make it to the super bowl with Ted Ginn as your number 1 wr? Who was a bust by all standards until then. Never really having a decent wr supporting cast. Unless we counting Benjamin? Dude had us lose 2 games that whole 2015 and won 3 division titles. If anything we failed him not the other way around. If not for that busted shoulder injury we are talking about a hall of gamer and greatest duel threat of all time. He would still be under center. His injury happened in the pocket and not running by the way.
-
I agree. I'm not sure why his regular season wins don't count as winning. Seeing as we as a franchise has never done that in back to back seasons... why do we get to look down on the ravens and Lamar who walk into the playoffs every year he has been under center. Bro, we lost as many games last season as he has done in 4 seasons. But you can't win with a "running quarterback"
-
Success is Success... that's as consistent as winning gets in the league I'm pretty sure there are a lot of playoff team in those 37 wins. Seeing has they never missed the playoffs since he has been their quarterback. Do the Ravens win in the playoffs? Haven't yet but how much of that is on 1 person vs the entire team. If he's good enough to win you 37 regular season games and only 12 losses in 4 years during the season he's probably not the problem.
